Year End Change Tyre

Hi guys, just tot about sharing this, which never occur to me, that its the time of the year to either go shopping due to X'mas sales, upgrade car - year end discount/clear stock and also change tyre! Recently went for tyre hunting, as my Dunlop SP Sport is nearing the end of its useful lifetime. Naturally, i surveyed everywhere - Mudah, Low Yat, Autoworld etc etc...more on reading up about reviews and feedbacks. Then I proceed to surveyed KL - Klang. I am presented with these choices ( i am looking for mid-low range) :

1) Falken zee912
2) Dunlop fm 901
3) Goodyear Excellence
4) Federal 595 Evo
5) Kumho ku21
6) Radar
7) Maxxis ipro victra

my current size is 215/45/17 - which is actually a good size with large enough choices. The main consideration is first foremost cost, whether permit my budget. Yes, i am constantly reminded that do not skim on budget especially tyres, but I am sure most middle income group will feel the economic pressure especially during year end, where expenditure suddenly surge and unaccounted spending arise. Back to tyres, well, being confronted with the choices as listed above, I am both happy but really undecided. Bearing in mind that most of the models are within 200-350 price range, each with different reviews although mostly positive. I could get Falken ze912 for around RM240, yes, very surprise, as I remember correctly these cost about >RM280 for 215 45 17...of course partly due to year end clearance of 2013/14 stocks, still its cheap! ZE 912 is a good tyre, having tried it before, but upon 50% tread, the quality of ride can drop alarmingly, still for the price and ride - cant complain

Of all brands, its Dunlop Fm901 that caught my attention, and its blardy cheap!!! @ RM200 - wtf - for 215 45 17, its a steal!!...the best part is, from all reviews, most are positive - except for noise, which is fine for me, as most of the time i am enjoying my ICE. Not sure why some will complain about it, which left me wondering whether do these people have any sort of sound system in their car? And of all people who modify their ice and exhaust, i m pretty sure the sound of tyre cant be higher than both...i still wonder. I pretty much made up my mind to go for Dunlop fm901, as these represent value for me at least. Got it from Shah Alam, for Rm200 from Weng Heng (not advertising for them, but thumbs up to Kok)

But before Dunlop, some dealers recommended Goodyear Excellence @ Rm249....which is also very heavily discounted, not sure if its true, some claimed that the original price is in the range of RM400 above....the review for GY excellence is not bad, but more for comfort with soft sidewall, which is not recommended for hard corners..well i am tempted but still my heart is set on Dunlop

Went on to check out federal tyres - 595 evo @ Rm 318, what i like about federal is the very aggressivve tread pattern. I saw similarity with Dunlop FM901, except the price is higher for federal. Review about federal is favorable, but some did said that federal 595 might not suit the wet, especially heavy down pours, while some will say RS-R is the better option. Just before i left, the shop owner recommended radar tyre, which is from Singapore. I notice the tyre tread pattern is quite interesting and aggresive but still i politely decline, as i am not in adventurous mode - Radar can be had for RM198...damn, i am never face with so many choices for 215 45 17, at such ridiculously low price, must savour these moments - haha...

My result from Mudah, yielded Kumho ku21, which from tread pattern, is more comfort, nothing to shout about, at a price of RM250, you cant ask for more - almost same price as achilles atr sport 2 - i would choose the latter, having seen only positive review for atr2 - i used atr before, no complain except wet driving

Finally, the maxxis ipro victra - very tempted to try this, as my experience with maxxis tyre has been rather positive and never give any problems. Good for dry and wet - i am using a different model earlier - for 195/60/15 - good grip but rather soft sidewall...which is expected given the profile. Furthermore, reviews for maxxis ipro have been favorable and above expectation couple with the price of rm260 - for 215 45 17, i think its a solid unbeatable value, although slightly more expensive than other budget tyre, but i felt maxxis is quite under rated - just like champiro. The tread is ok, not aggressive type, but felt it looks quietly functional.

Having said all of the above, as i mentioned, i finally go for Dunlop fm901, but my heart is telling me maxxis ipro victra. As of now, i cant comment much about fm901, as i havent fully run-in the tyre, but immediate impression is that steering control is better than atr sport, my prev tyre. Felt more accurate and pin point while driving..manage to drive in wet, as it was raining cats, water dispersion is good, and manage to cross over a huge puddle along federal highway smooth and with much ease. Having said this, i dont expect fm901 to last, as a treadwear of 200, really its miserable..but again, for rm200, u cant expect everything to go your way
