1st time "minor" reno terrace house BU

Hello everybody.

This is my grandmother's house in BU. Has an "indoor" garden next to the existing living room that the previous owner converted into a fish pond. Behind the window on the left is the dining area and to the right of the 4 brick pillars is the driveway.

Would like to put a roof over it, remove the sliding glass door that separates this space with the living room, fill up the pond, put new flooring, maybe remove the window/wall to the dining area.

Been reading some other threads, for example House Renovation - Approval Plan, Local Authorities - DBKL/MBSA/MPSJ.. etc . I have 2 contractors coming in next week to take a look. But this being the first time I'm renovating anything, I would like to seek out advice on the forum.

I'm not even sure what to ask, so please be kind to me and allow me to just "park" this first post here. As I get more info from the contractors and read up more on the forums, I'll post specific issues and questions that I have.

Thank you everybody!

Electrician Price: Please help me don't get chop!

Hello everybody. So I got this quotation from an electrician after he inspected my house.

Replace new main switch 63A: RM140
Replace new RCCB 63A: RM140
Remove old ceiling fan and install new: RM 45
New water heater point: RM130
Install water heater (+ wire and pipe): RM120
Remove old light fixture and install new: RM15
Replace fluorescent down light with LED down light (price includes new down light): RM25

I've already purchased the ceiling fans, water heaters and light fixtures. The electrician will provide the main switch, RCCB, any wires and pipes not included with the water heater and the LED down lights.

I did a search on the forums, found some prices but those were from years ago. I also did a search on Shopee to find out the prices of a main switch and RCCB, but I have no idea how much the labour cost of installing these items should be. Hoping some experienced homeowners or electricians out there can share their knowledge and up to date info and advise me if this quotation is reasonable. I'm not looking for cheap, just don't want to get chop.

Thank you in advance!

Camera shops cheating buyers with imported lens?

Hey all,

I recently sold a camera lens. Posted it online on a forum and found a buyer. He came over to my place, tested the lens and said it was ok and he agreed to buy the lens from me. The warranty from manufacturer had already expired but I gave him the warranty card and receipt as proof that I bought it from an authorized dealer in Malaysia.

Now this guy is calling me, telling me his story that he took the lens to the manufacturer's service center and that the people there are saying that the lens is directly imported from Japan and not through official channels. At first he asked me to return some of the money he paid me, his argument being that directly imported lens are cheaper. Now, he's asking me for a full refund, saying that he doesn't want the lens anymore.

I told him to take his problems to Canon Malaysia and the shop. I personally think this guy is a con man who is trying to make a quick buck.

But my question is this: is it possible for a camera shop to sell lens directly imported from Japan with fake Canon Malaysia warranty cards? Please share your opinion on this.

What RON for Honda Jazz 1.5 i-dsi 2004?

Hi all.

I bought a Honda Jazz many months back, but the previous owner lost the manual so I don't know a lot of things about the car.

I did some research on the web and I found conflicting info. One forum said RON 88, another RON 95. Or maybe its because different versions for different countries have different fuel requirements? Currently I'm using RON 97 because I'm playing it safe.

Can any Honda Jazz owner please answer this: what is the fuel rating that is stated IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL for our Malaysian Honda Jazz 1.5 i-dsi year 2004?

Many thanks.
