Bootup time taking unusually long on my lappie

Hi guys I own an Acer Aspire 4740G-332G50,and this are the specs:

Intel Core i3 330M(2.13GHz,3MB L3 Cache
Nvidia Geforce 310M(up to 1279 MB TurboCache)
2GB RAM
500GB HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

The problem is that it takes unsually long to start up this laptop,I have another desktop computer which have only a AMD Athlon X2 4200+ as it's processor and the same 2GB of RAM,but with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit,but that desktop computer boots up way faster than this laptop..this laptop takes like 3 minutes to boot-up,whereas that desktop com takes 1 minute ! And that dekstop com has tons of program installed in it,whereas this laptop is very new and has only a few programs in it..

The specs of that dekstop com is:

AMD Athlon X2 4200+
XFX ATI RADEON HD 5750
MSI K9N6PGM2-V2
2GB RAM
750GB Samsung HDD

I'm wondering why is it that the laptop is taking a longer time to boot-up?There could be many reasons,I know,but this laptop has a better processor,and is more new,has less programs installed in it..and doesn't have many things on startup..only those necessary like my KAspersky Pure..and a few others..

Pls help..could it be because of pre-installed Windows?I'm just wondering if I could download a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and then activate it using the genuine key which I have?My laptop did not come with it's Windows CD..

Windows could not connect to the Group Policy

See,a few days ago,I've been getting this error whenever I bootup my computer:Here's a s/s of it:

Because of this,I'm unable to alter any settings or whatsoever in the Network Connections,nor can I 'Create a new network' or stuff like that,here's another s/s:

So,now I'm able to connect to the internet only because I'm using a router together with a modem,which auto-dials,meaning I don't have to manually connect,I can straight surf after I on my com and the router and modem,but if I use my modem only without router,I will have to manually connect using the Streamyx shortcut on my desktop,here's a s/s:

So,since I have this problem,I couldn't access that shortcut either,and as u can see,it doesen't have an image on it..meaning maybe some file is missing..

Because of this problem,I'm unable to alter some settings which is needed for my gaming.

Guys,new update,now if I on my router together with my modem,I can acccess internet because if I on my router,I don't need to manually dial,it will be automatic..but if I don't on the router,and only use the modem,I can't click the 'Streamyx' shortcut,nor can I create a new connection..some pics are below

Battey life drains quite fast

Hey I just recently bought a Acer Aspire 4740G-332G50,but I noticed that it's 6-cell battery only lasts for about not more than 3 hours,if I start running it on battery when it's fully charged,just by surfing,the battery goes down pretty fast.

The screen brightness is the lowest to save battery,whereas I also do not play music on it.

Is this normal?Can I buy a 9-cell battery that lasts longer for this lappy or am I stuck with this 3-hour life battery?

Which notebook cooler should I get?

Now,I use it on my dining table sometimes,or put it on my lap.But after long use,I can smell the components(u know that kind of smell right)?

So,which cooler should I get?Need a pretty decent one that can do the job.Budget is RM50 and below?Maybe a bit more above RM50 s ok..

Setting up router together with modem

Hi,

Now I'm currently using Aztech DSL605E(Modem) to go on the internet with my desktop PC.Before I can go onlinet,I have to manually connect,meaning I open up the Streamyx shortcut and click 'Connect'.

Just recently,I bought a new Acer laptop. I wan to use it to go online too,like for example,if my desktop PC is occupied by someone else and I need to go online,I can also use the laptop to go online.So I bought a Aztech router(model is Aztech WL830RT4)Aztech router

These two PC are at home,same floor(just for your information to help me better).So,this is how I set it up the first time.

1.Take out the ethernet cable that (links the modem to the desktop computer) from the desktop computer network port(you know,the one at the back part of the PC??) and plug it into the router's WAN port.

2.Take the ethernet cable that came with the router and plug it into the desktop computer network port(same as the above port) to the router's LAN port.

3.Go to address bar in a web browser(Firefox),and type 192.168.1.1

4.Clicked 'Quick Setup',etc. etc.set wireless security,all those things.

5.Success!Laptop can connect wirelessly to the internet while desktop PC also can go online.

But I have a question,when I on the desktop computer,I don't have to manually connect anymore(as I did when I only had the modem),it will like auto-connect?I can straight go online after booting up the computer.Is it supposed to be like that?

HSF very loud and can't control speed

Hi I may plan to buy a new processor AMD Athlon II X4 620 soon.

Should I use it's stock HSF?Now I'm using my AMD Athlon 3200+ HSF on my X2 4200+,because it runs quiet.If I put the 4200+'s HSF,it will be really loud,I think it spins at 6000+ RPM! And I don't know how to control it's speed.

When I buy the X4,I should use it's HSF right?If it's loud,how to control the fan speed?Through BIOS or using software?

And also,how do you usually put ur thermal paste?Do you put one small blob in the middle of the processor or spread it like butter using a card?And do you put thermal paste on the base of your heatsink oso? Or only on the proc?

My proc I use the blob method and it's temp is 60+ celcius,don't know why...

Computer can't boot after put in new RAM

Hi my mobo have 2 slots,one slot is occupied by a Kingston DDR2 1GB value RAM.I have another RAM,Kingmax DDR2 1GB also,which run together with the Kingston in dual-channel mode.

Recently I took the Kingmax one out cos I thought it was causing my screen to show 'No signal',but I did not realized that it was because of my gc. So I have now replaced the gc and screen works fine.

So I tried putting in back the Kingmax RAM,but when I boot up the pc,the screen have 'No signal' and the pc doesn't have a 'beep' sound that is usually present when I boot up the pc normally.After I took out the RAM,pc boots up fine.

So this is the RAM problem right?Anyone can verify it?

ATI HD5750 hot

Hi I just recently purchased a XFX ATI HD5750 after days of researching

Now when I open Catalyst Control Centre,the temperature is 60 celcius even now while I'm typing and activity is 0%.

Why is it so hot?I thought the idle temp is around 40+ celcius only.

By the way,can I know what are the power consumption of this card when at idle and when it's at full load?

And if any of you guys know why,my game GTA IV,I can't raise the Texture Quality and View Distance.This may be an app problem only but if any of you know why,maybe driver issues,pls tell me.

Other than this few stuff,this card is great I especially like the manual fan control,easy to use,just adjust the slider,click Apply,and the fan straight increase or decrease in speed

How to unlock processors?

Hi I just want to ask what is the difference between AMD Phenom and AMD Phenom II?

E.g:AMD Processors

There is AMD Phenom X4 9650 which is pretty cheap at Rm375 only whereas there's AMD Phenom II X4 945 for RM589.

I am wondering what is the difference between Phenom and Phenom II??Both are quad-cores but I am sure Phenom II is faster?Please enlighten me.

ATI RADEON HD 5700-series

Hi I am looking for a new graphic card as my current one is spoiled.

So I am looking at the HD5000-series cards and I think I will go for a HD5750.

Will my PSU Taekom 500W be enough to support this card?Heard that these 5000 series cards don't consume much power.

And it's quite big,isn't it,the card?Will a normal ATX-casing be big enough to hold this card?And some more my mobo is a micro-ATX But my casing is a ATX-casing.

Or should I get a 5770 instead?I'm just considering the 5000-series cos I wan DirectX11,but no money to get 5870.So only considering 5770 or 5750.My budget is around 400+ only.So maybe 5750 will be better.

'No signal' on monitor

My computer was working fine in the morning,then I off it and went out to lunch.When I came back and on it,my monitor shows 'No signal'.

So I put the cable that connects the monitor to the graphic card into the VGA port on my mobo instead.Now it is using the integrated graphics and no more my own graphic card.What do you think could be the problem?I did not mess with any settings or took it out and touch it.

My com specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600GT(now running on Nvidia Geforce 6150SE nForce 430(Microsoft Corporation-WDDM)
MSI K9N6PGM2-V2

Now I notice that the fonts are not very clear anymore,a bit blur and hurts the eyes a bit.And it's shaking a little.

Lame Windows 7 setup

Hey just recently I saw this guide:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10280-install-windows-7-without-using-any-external-device.html.

So,since I do not have a burner,I wanted to use that way to install my Windows 7.

I now have a 40GB IDE that has XP PRO and wanna install 7 on a new SATA I have.So I extract the iso file to my IDE then run the setup.exe.

I selected to install 7 on my SATA.It goes well at 'Copying Windows File',but at 'Expanding Windows file',at 27%,the computer will restart,then it goes back to the setup,then restarts again,then I don't know how,but the setup will fail and it will boot back into my XP Pro!!The error I get is 'Windows 7 installation was not successful.Previous version of Windows was restored,etc.'

What the hell is wrong?Retarded installation setup!!!And you know,when starting the install,the setup will say 'Copying temporary files' right?It takes a bloody long time!!

Hard Disk Install Problem

I currently have windows xp pro on my IDE hdd,and I want to install windows 7 on my new sata hdd.

BUT,the SATA is not really new,there's a version of Windows 7 on it installed by my friend for testing on HIS computer,I tried to boot from the SATA by changing the HDD boot order see whether Windows 7 can load but got error,so I tried to format it through Disk Management but can't because volume is in use.This means that I have to format the SATA through BIOS right?I mean boot from my Windows install DVD then format from there.

And,my windows 7 is in iso format but i can't burn to a dvd as i do not have a dvd burner.So can I mount the image using PowerISO and install it into my SATA while XP is running?

User Name is Administrator and Mem Usage is 10,716 K.Always remains at 10,716.

What is this?I search around in google also no info.

I really scared it's some virus or worm or keylogger.

Unable to detect SATA hard drive

I currently have an IDE 40GB hard disc,and I just got a SATA 160GB hard disc.

So,I put in this new SATA hard disc of mine,connected all the cables correctly(i'm very sure the cables are right),and booted up the computer.

Since the old HDD which contains the Windows files is still in the com,it boots into Windows like normal.But the new hard drive is not detected.

Am I doing it correctly?Should I take out my old HDD first?Or is it the HDD problem?Because this HDD is 2nd hand.

P.S:I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3,and my motherboard is Abit KN9 SLI.

LATEST UPDATE AS OF 8/10/2009:

Guys,after I plug in my SATA HDD,I rebooted my computer,then went to Control Panel,then to Disk Management.But it did not list the new HDD.Even in BIOS also don't have.

But when I touch the HDD,it is slightly hot.

What is the problem?Could it be the data cable?Probably not the power cable because the HDD is hot..
