Now, Apple is trying to patent a similar system that would use gestures to unlock an iPhone. And if that sounds familiar, it should, because Android already does it.

As spotted by Patently Apple, Apple filed in late 2012 for two patents covering ‘Gesture entry techniques’, in which a touchscreen device would be unlocked by having a user drawing a custom pattern on a screen between a series of illuminated dots.

That’s very familiar. Android does this exact same thing, basically to get around Apple’s slide-to-unlock patent. Apple’s system is more advanced, true. It can account for variables such as swiping speed, the use of invisible dots, and more. But still, this is a play out of Android’s handbook.

Patently Apple explains the system:

Apple’s invention generally relates to electronic devices, and more specifically to techniques for entering authentication gestures into electronic devices. Today’s invention revelations add to the secure measure of Apple’s Touch ID. Apple notes that the invention relates to the use of security measures based on non-alphanumeric inputs that are user configurable (as opposed to purely biometric inputs) to control access to restricted information or functions.

Apple notes that access to confidential information may be based on a gesture input via a touch sensitive input device, such as a touch sensitive display or touchpad. A gesture may be used to invoke one or more authentication screens, such as, a gesture entry screen, a gesture replay screen, and a gesture re-entry verification screen, for accessing confidential information or functions that may be otherwise unavailable.

Don’t expect to see this system in iPhones any time soon, though. It seems more likely that Apple will put all of its focus into TouchID.

Apple Patents Android-Like Gesture Unlocking Tech For Mobile Devices- sos for neutralfag
Apple reveals new Password Gestures to Strengthen the Authentication Process of Future iDevices and Macs- sos for ifag

Google cracks its own CAPTCHAs

QUOTE

Google has cracked the CAPTCHA. In a paper published this week, Google researchers say that they've developed an algorithm that can accurately solve Google's own CAPTCHA puzzles — those obfuscated jumbles of letters and numbers you type in on websites to prove that you're human — with 99.8 percent accuracy, obviously posing something of a problem to the puzzle's intended purpose of weeding out robots. The new system was developed to help Google automatically analyze hard-to-read signs and house numbers photographed by its Street View cameras, allowing it to accurately match images with locations on a map.

Despite being near perfect when it comes to CAPTCHAs — a feat that plenty of humans can't even manage — the new system's analysis of Street View imagery isn't quite as accurate, correctly identifying the text just over 90 percent of the time. When analyzing house numbers specifically, however, its accuracy jumps up to over 96 percent.

These CAPTCHAs have been correctly solved by the new algorithm.

Google is, of course, specially suited to developing such advanced automated text analysis because of its extensive work with Street View and reCAPTCHA, its own CAPTCHA service. Even so, Google says that it's already found ways to further protect reCAPTCHA from being broken by others' computers. "Thanks to this research, we know that relying on distorted text alone isn’t enough," Vinay Shet, reCAPTCHA's product manager writes in a blog post. Shet explains that part of this is analyzing a user's full interaction with the CAPTCHA puzzle — and not solely whether they can get the answer right.

sos: The Verge

This technology is probably better than me at solving CAPTCHAs

[REVIEW] i-Rocks A05 Gold Edition Gaming Headset

For a much better formatted review with more pictures, remember to pay a visit to the original review here

When we bring up the entry level of gaming headsets, the top recommendations would always be either the Razer Kraken or the Siberia V1. To this stagnant competition comes a new contender, the i-Rocks Rock Series A05 Gaming Headset. Let's check out what this headset has to offer.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX, KEN?

The headset itself, detachable 3.5mm audio cable, extending audio/mic splitter cable, detachable mic and a piece of information.

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

HEADPHONE SPECIFICATIONS
Type: Closed-back dynamic
Driver: 40mm diameter
Frequency response: 20-20k Hz
Sensitivity: 100 dB
Impedance: 38 ohms
Connector: Gold-plated stereo 3.5mm
Cable: 1.2 Coiled. Like what the name already states, the headset has a matte black finish with gold accents around the ear-cups. The finish feels high quality to the touch but I doubt that you want to constantly caress the headset. In my opinion, the headsets looks very fashionable and normally I would let it sit around my neck and use it as sort of a fashion accessory.

To expand on how it could be used as a fashion accessory, is how the A05 features a detachable cable and a detachable mic. At the bottom end of both ear-cups, one would find 3.5mm ports that allow the audio cable and mic to be attached to either side you prefer. This comes in very handy because in the past people have complained about being restricted of how the cable is laid out and would prefer it on the other side. With this feature, users are given the liberty to take control of their own layout. Of course, if you just want to use the A05 as just a fashion accessory, you can detach both of them to prevent unnecessary cables dangling around while you walk in style.

While detachable cables are certainly wonderful, I have a gripe with this particular cable. Logically, you would keep the cable coiled inside your bag or whatever method you please and let the headset sit around your neck. The cable also features in-line volume control allowing users to easily adjust volume on the fly independent of the usual Windows Volume control. One problem with the cable is when one keeps the cable coiled for a certain amount of time, the cable has the tendency of getting itself dangled. Fortunately, one would just have to straighten it out for a few moments before using the A05, but still, dangling cables, period.

Let's move on to the comfortability of the headset. Around the ear-cups we find cushioning made of leather and on the top we find cushioning made of what I would presume as memory foam since it forms around my head when I actually wear the A05. Adjusting the size of the headset is kept like how it is with adjustable headband that is made of shiny aluminium. The adjustment process is actually very smooth without being too smooth to avoid accidental adjustments while using the headset.

Overall build quality wise, the A05 feels pretty robust. If you would like to stash the A05 inside your bag while you travel instead of letting it sit around your neck, it wouldn't be much of a problem in my opinion. That pretty much sums up what I have to say about the quality, let's move on to the audio quality.

The A05 sports 40mm drivers as you would find standard across most of the gaming headsets in this range. Music wise, I have been listening to Billboard's Hot 100s and as expected the A05 performance is stellar. Unlike other gaming oriented headsets, the A05 does not have that much of an emphasis on bass which might or might not suit you. With some fiddling around with the equalizer of my preferred music player, I was able to achieve my desired audio quality. One word of advice though would be to ensure that the headset is firmly placed around your ears to ensure good audio quality; I guess thats the trade-off for designing such a light headset. Gaming wise, the A05 is on par with other gaming oriented headsets within its range. Oh and before I forget, since I am sort of categorizing the A05 as a portable accessory, the headset works great on mobile too!

Now we shift our attention onto the detachable microphone. The microphone bears almost the same DNA of retractable microphones found on a lot of gaming headsets; as in the microphone of the A05 is very flexible with how it can be positioned. i-Rocks also claims the microphone to be noise-cancelling but awkwardly enough it doesn't muffle the clicky noise of the K10 keyboard.... which analogically put is like pitching the best sword against the best shield I guess.

CONCLUSION
Looking at the whole package, the A05 presents itself as an extremely competitive product at a SRP of RM199. If you are looking for something portable, durable and in a sense, "stylish", the A05 is right up your alley.
Interested to get one for yourself?
[REVIEW]SteelSeries Siberia Elite Gaming Headset

For a much better formatted review with more pictures, remember to pay a visit to the original review here

If you are no stranger to the SteelSeries brand, the word "Siberia" should ring a lot of bells inside your head. The V1 debuted around 2004, while the V2 came along during 2009 and finally we are here to see the newest refresh for the Siberia series of gaming headsets, the Siberia Elite. Is the Siberia Elite truly a state of the art headset like how SteelSeries claims? Lets find out.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

SPEAKERS
Frequency: 16-28 KHz
Impedance: 32 Ohm
SPL@ 1KHz, 1V rms: 113 dB

CABLE
Length: 1.2 meters
Extension cable: 2 meters
Connectors: 3.5 mm 4-pole & 3-pole x2

MICROPHONE
Mic pattern: Unidirectional
Frequency: 75 – 16000 Hz
Impedance: <2.2K Ohm
Sensitivity: -38 dB

COLORS
Black & White

REVIEW

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Taking the Siberia Elite out of its packaging, you would feel that the packaging really suits the price tag. This is one of the best packaging I have ever encountered while unboxing products. Taking the sleeve out, reveals a nice matte black box with a varnished SteelSeries logo. The box is automatically a keeper and is able to stand up as a display piece for SteelSeries fanatics.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Enough about the box, today we have come to check out the headset, not the packaging. Taking the Siberia Elite out of its box, we are greeted with a Velcro strap (mentioned in 3 reviews in a row, I need to tone down my love for Velcro) keeping the cables neat and tidy. The MicroUSB cable is flat, making tangling cables a non-issue here.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So you might be wondering how you are supposed to connect the Siberia Elite to your device since the thing has a MicroUSB connector. The Siberia Elite comes with the staple USB sound card, audio only jack cable and microphone/audio splitter cable, connect the MicroUSB header to either one and you are good to go.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But obviously you would choose to connect it via the USB sound card, because if you don't, the thing that makes the Siberia Elite special, the LED illumination, would be neutered. Speaking of cool stuff, I bet you already noticed the illuminated ring, one beside each of the ear cups of the Siberia Elite. The illuminated ring on the right also works as a volume control, while the other a microphone mute switch. I have to say that such design is a very interesting one indeed. While it may not be that intuitive compared to the in-line mic/volume control found on the Siberia V2, it certainly works and there won't be anything dangling on your USB cable too.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I mentioned about the illuminated rings, but how exactly do they work? How are we supposed to change the colours of said rings? This is where the SteelSeries Engine 3 comes into play. Currently, only the SteelSeries Engine 3 supports the Siberia Elite so those of you who have the previous version, SteelSeries Engine 2 would need to install additional software in order to configure the headset to your liking. I have prepared a separate post about the SteelSeries Engine 3 which you can check out in the near future!

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

While I am able to keep on rambling about the illuminated rings of the Siberia Elite, I have to bring your attention to something that is key in all headphones; how comfortably the Siberia Elite would sit on your head. Due to it's aluminium band construction, the Siberia Elite is much more heavier compared to other headsets available in the market. When you wear the Siberia Elite, you would certainly remember that you are actually wearing it, which may or may not be a deal-breaker for you.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

This point is also reinforced with the stretchable headband; this type of headband is certainly a "one size fit all" kind of design. While that may be a good thing, but still that means the headband is constantly pressing against your scalp. Those who are new to the Siberia series might need some getting use, but for those who have used the any of the Siberia headsets, it's a major improvement with the added padding and firmer headband.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Another thing that affects comfort is of course, the ear cups. The Siberia Elite sports very thick padded memory foam ear cups. This makes the Siberia Elite a very comfortable headset as the memory foam would shape around your ear. There is one problem though, the inner part of the ear cups are pretty small considering the size of the headset, even the Siberia V2 had a bigger inner ring than this. This would make people with big ears have a harder time to get the comfortable experience as the inner ring does not cover the entire ear.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Now we come to the core of the headset itself, the audio quality of course. SteelSeries places emphasis on the Dolby technology used to process the audio signals before transmitting it to the user. Personally though, the USB sound card doesn't make that much of a difference than plugging it into my laptop's audio jack, given that my laptop supports THX TruStudio so that might be why. What I can say about the Siberia Elite would be, that it gives the user a very immersive experience no matter what you are doing. I have started to play the Titanfall beta recently, and the headset gives me a truly immersive experience, explosions sound epic, guns sound powerful and a lot more (credits to Respawn, 6GB of audio data for a beta, phewit). The experience doesn't just stop at gaming. I have been listening to nightcore music recently and the audio that the Siberia Elite produces is top notch, albeit not as good as audiophile headphones within the same price range.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Not forgetting what makes or breaks a headset, is of course the microphone itself. Of course how can one forget SteelSeries's staple retractable mic? The microphone is very flexible and can sit as near to your face as possible and even as far as possible. Atop the microphone, you also get an illuminated ring when you mute the microphone. The noise cancellation featured in this particular microphone is also top-notch and removes all ambient noises, even mechanical keyboards clacking away in the background. If you need more than my words to be sure about it, do a search on YouTube and you will be amazed as what I just said was all true.

CONCLUSION
In my opinion, the Siberia Elite is an extremely well built headset with good audio quality compared to other gaming oriented headsets. But at the end of the day, it will still burn RM769 from that wallet of yours. When asked why I'd spend so much on this headset, I always answer, "Well does your headset glow every colour in the rainbow?" So, buying the Siberia Elite grants you a special bragging right that currently no other headsets can offer; basically, the thing is a hater magnet.

EDIT: Apparently the Siberia Elite has a lot of RMA issues overseas, but my contact told me the current RMA rate in Malaysia is 1/100 and they would do a 1 to 1 exchange with you if your Siberia Elite were to face any issues.

Like the K10, the M09 and C10 are focused on the fundamentals. Lets dig into what the M09 and C10 is all about.
WHAT'S IN THE BOXES

The mouse, a piece of instruction for it and the mousepad.
TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

M09 Mouse
USB Interface
Adjustable Resolution: 500 / 1000/ 1750 DPI
Adjustable Report Rate: 125 / 500 / 1000Hz
Dimension: 117(Length) x 66.5 (Width) x 41.5 (Height) mm
Cable Length: 180 cm
C10 Mousepad
Material : Fabric + Natural rubber
Dimension : 366 X 262 X 4 mm

REVIEW

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Checking out the M09 from the little window view of the box, the mouse bears a striking resemblance to the infamous Razer Deathadder. The black matte finish, the green accents, the shape and the list goes on and on about why it looks like the aforementioned, but today we are not here to talk about things like that, we are here to find out what the M09 is all about.
Lets first give attention to the supporting role in what makes a wired mouse, the USB cable. Like you expected, we are given a gold-plated USB header, giving us the liberty to plug in and out as much as we like. The USB cable is also braided, making it easier to untangle if it does eventually tangle among itself. We also get a Velcro strap to manage the USB cable if one would like to bring the mouse along with them. Rejoice, people with OCD!

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

After plugging in the USB, the M09 greets us by activating its LED lights. The LED illuminates the scroll wheel and the "ROCK" logo situated right under your palm when using the mouse. The LED illumination gives the M09 a boost in aesthetics, one minor complain though, is that there is a bit of "overshine" (coined that term), you can clearly see the shape of LED backlight, a square PCB I guess. Under bright light, you wouldn't be able to make out this shape clearly, but still, once you see it, you won't be able to unsee it.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

At the side of the M09, there are 2 side buttons. Unfortunately, it only functions as a "Back" and a "Forward" key to ease your web browsing since there is no software functionality to map macros onto the side buttons. The only saving grace is that games still recognize the two buttons as Mouse Buttons 4 and 5, giving you the option to remap simple controls onto it via game settings.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

When you learnt that the M09 has no software functionality, you might be gasping in fear, exclaiming your need to tweak the sensitivity of the mouse across all games and do not want to resort to shitty Windows settings. Fright not, flipping the mouse around, you are greeted with 2 switches, 1 for DPI settings, another for polling rate settings. There are only 3 settings for both DPI and polling rate, 500/1000/1750 for DPI and 125hz/500hz/1000hz. While it may seem a little scarce of choice, if you adjust the polling rate and DPI accordingly, you should surely meet your match, well unless you are running 4 monitors... And before I forget, the M09 sports a laser sensor but there is no information on exactly what laser sensor it uses.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Now we come to the most important part, the ergonomics of the M09. If I were asked to describe the shape of the M09, I would be baffled for words. So I will put it in a simple way, this mouse sports the shape of your normal everyday mouse. The size of the mouse fits my hand nicely with a little bit of margin, but I have small Asian hands, so that might be a concern for you. After a long day at work using the M09, I feel no strain and the matte rubber finish feels nice. One gripe of mine with the mouse is that I wished that the sides were a little bit rougher compared to the other parts of the mouse, giving me a better grip for the mouse, but that differs from person to person.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To enhance ones experience of using a great mouse, one should get a mousepad of equal quality. Fortunately enough, i-Rocks also released a mousepad, the C10, alongside with the M09. The C10 sports a design with more sharp edges than one would normally find on a mousepad. There is also a big "Rock series" graphic on the mousepad to let people know what mousepad you are using. Personally, I like simplistic designs like my QcK Mass, but each to his/her own of course.
The C10 is made to be pretty silky smooth for the mouse to glide through with its fabric top. Other than making your mouse glide with almost no resistance, the smooth top of the C10 allows your hand to sit comfortably on it while in usage. Personally though, I prefer surfaces with a rougher finish for the higher resistance while using a mouse.

CONCLUSION
If you haven't notice, I have still yet to mention the price of the M09. So if you haven't ran off googling, the M09 comes in at only SRP RM95. For it's price, I am pretty sure the M09 is a killer deal at that range. In my honest opinion, if you are looking for a value oriented mouse and don't fancy any of the software functionality that other name brands provide, the M09 presents itself as a pretty good pick for you. The mouse is also a pretty good pick-up for those who are picking out their first gaming mouse, as it will quickly introduce you to the world of gaming peripherals, especially its keyword, "Quality".
For the C10, it comes it at SRP RM59, which in my opinion, is not to my liking. At that range, I would probably get a SteelSeries QcK Mass, but for those who prefer a much more smoother surface for more glide, the C10 is probably suitable for your taste.

i-Rocks Malaysia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/iRocksMY
i-Rocks Malaysia Website: http://i-rocks.my/

Valentine's Day is here guys! Have a great date people!

[REVIEW] Sonic Gear Pandora Mini

Remember to check out the concluding overview that will be posted after all three reviews are up and running."

Finally we come to the last Bluetooth speaker that I have yet to cover in Sonic Gear's Pandora Series, the Pandora Mini! Having the heftiest price tag compared to the other two in the series, let's find out what this seemingly small Bluetooth speaker packs inside to justify the price.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX, KEN?
The Pandora Mini, piece of product information, MicroUSB to USB cable and a 3.5mm audio jack cable.

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Bluetooth profile: support HS/HF, A2DP, AVRCP, OPP
Total system power: RMS 5 Watts
Impedance: 4Ω
Driver: 2 x 40mm
Frequency response: 100Hz ~ 20KHz
Speaker function: Bluetooth and AUX-in music playback
Handsfree function
Built-in power bank: 1800mAh
Built-in rechargeable battery

REVIEW

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Taking the Pandora Mini out of its packaging, the rubber finish is definitely much more harder than that of the Pandora Micro. While it is certainly not smooth to the touch (I don't know why you would want to constantly touch it), it definitely provides more grip to the speakers itself which is a good thing I guess in case of accidental pushing and what not.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Upon turning the unit to the back, I noticed the different I/O available to the Pandora Mini compared to the other two in the series. A USB 1A output, which deeply puzzled me. Did some further reading of what is printed on the packaging, apparently the Pandora Mini doubles as a power bank which sounds pretty cool, that is until you dig deeper to what kind of power bank it is.
Unfortunately, the power bank functionality built into the power bank is a mere 1800mAh, which when put to scale, can only charge a modest Nexus 5 to 75% capacity, and a iPhone 5S for one full cycle. This pales in comparison to mobile power banks in the market by a lot.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But I'm pretty sure that if you are a power user, you probably already have your own reliable power bank, an extra backup wouldn't hurt I guess. We might as well focus on what it functions well as, a portable speaker. Like the Pandora Micro, the Pandora Mini can produce loud volumes if you ever so need it. The Pandora Mini is able to surprisingly still produce some bass in music playback, albeit very weak. I never expected any portable speakers to be able to produce bass, which I am pleasantly surprised by the Mini.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Let's go back to the fundamentals, the media controls of course. Like the Pandora 3, the Pandora Mini gives feedback when you actually click on the buttons, notifying you that you actually activated something. And as usual, this product features the normal forward, backward, volume up, volume down and answer call buttons as found across the Pandora series.
The Pandora Mini has about the same range as the Pandora Micro which is about 20 meters. The Pandora Mini has another advantage over the Micro which is having a slightly longer battery life, but only by 1 hour which I guess is contributed by the built-in power bank.

CONCLUSION
Simply put, there isn't much to say about the Pandora Mini while having reviewed the Pandora Micro and Pandora 3 without repeating myself over and over again. Sure the power bank feature is cool and all but does it justify the hefty RM210 price tag? Unfortunately having such a lackluster battery capacity for a power bank brings my verdict to -- No. Even without comparing it to other competing products, the Pandora Mini loses its value aspect to its smaller brother, the Pandora Micro.

Let's dive deep into what the i-Rocks Rock Series K10 Gaming Keyboard is all about.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX, KEN?

The keyboard itself and a piece of product information

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Interface: Full Speed USB
Polling Rate: 1000 Hz
Key number: 104 keys (by language)
Key stroke: 3.8±0.5mm
Key force: 55±15g
Switch life: about 20 million life cycles
Cable length: 180cm
Dimensions: 448 (L) x 148 (W) x 34(H) mm
Product weight: about 1.2kg
N-key Rollover with 30 keys trigger capability
Membrane key-switches with plunged key structure

REVIEW

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

In case you haven't read the tagline of this review, let me inform you that the K10 is actually just a membrane keyboard. And if it were to be just a normal membrane keyboard, this review would reflect on how lackluster it would be. But, that is not the case.
The K10, a membrane keyboard, actually has the touch and feel of using a mechanical keyboard, and to be exact, it feels and types like a keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches. The K10 features a switch they dubbed as the "POM key switches" which I had been googling for a good while now but can't turn up with any good resources so we would have to take it word for word from the company. With Cherry's patent being expired for a good while now. A lot of companies have taken the liberty of trying to develop their own key switch like ThermalTake (Tt eSports) with their recent revelation at CES 2014.
From what I have been told, the POM key switch is i-Rocks take on developing their own switch without straying too far away from the normal membrane keyboard. From the few days of using this keyboard, I can tell you that they are doing a good job in giving the tactile feel that not too long ago, only mechanical keyboards could achieve.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So now you know how much I love the tactile feel of this keyboard, but it is not like I don't have any gripes with it; One of it being the keyboard layout. Based on personal preference, you might be well acquainted with a short backspace key, but for myself, I have been typing as long as I could remember on keyboards with the more common long backspace key. It's something one would have to get used to, but mistakes would occur much more frequently using this layout in my honest opinion.
Another thing I wished the K10 have had, media control keys. Personally, I just need volume control and that's it because my speakers don't have the nifty knob to turn volume up and down. But I guess that has to do with the plug n' play functionality and its limitations.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

It's not all bad for the K10, this keyboard features something I miss a lot while using the Razer Deathstalker, cable management lanes under the keyboard. One might question why you need cable management lanes under a keyboard, and I would tell you that it will make your desk less cluttered if you were to utilize it properly.
The keyboard doesn't feature any software functionality like other name brand peripherals but it still has the essentials that a gamer might need. For an example, the K10 still has the Windows key lock a.k.a gaming mode. But the activation method is kind of unique compared to other keyboards. You just have to hold both left and right Windows keys down and 'tada' your Windows keys are now disabled, making it impossible to accidentally tab out of the game due to the mispress of the Windows key.
Due to the plug n' play that i-Rocks is so keen to focus on, the K10 features a gold-plated USB. If you haven't heard yet, gold-plated USB headers don't give you the auto-winning edge, instead, it gives you the liberty to plug in and out much more times compared to normal USB headers reason being gold corrodes at a much more slower rate.
Seeing the K10 is a gaming keyboard, i-Rocks is not forgetting about the essence of what defines a gaming keyboard, not shiny LEDs (which the K10 does not have), instead, its all about the n-key rollover (anti-ghosting) for 30 simultaneous key presses and 1000hz refresh rate. Let's go through the latter first. A keyboard having 1000 hertz refresh rate means that it only takes 1 millisecond for it to register your keystroke, which is important for that split second decision making while gaming.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Now you might be asking about what this n-key rollover or better known as anti-ghosting means. Ghosting basically means when you press multiple keys together, some keystrokes are not registered to the system. So the K10s' 30-key anti-ghosting lets you be able to press 30 keys together without losing any keystrokes in the process, and I am confident that you would never press 30 keys simultaneously in any serious situation. Something fresh that I really like about the K10 is the included Velcro strap. This Velcro strap is something I have yet to see implemented to a lot of peripherals with long cables, which to be honest, is really handy to have if you were to bring the K10 around with you, to save you from the living hell that is dangling cables all around your bag.
But talking about lodging it around with you, the K10 weighs in at an astonishing 1.2kg. When I unboxed this keyboard, I was truly shocked by how hefty the keyboard felt. This would make bringing it around kinda hard to cope with if you are on the go constantly, but this certainly guarantees that the K10 is made of solid material and perhaps even made with a aluminium backplate as I can't seem to even make the keyboard flex, not even a little bit.

CONCLUSION
After some sloppy structuring of this review, we have come to the part where I conclude stuff (some of you might even just read this part ). The i-Rocks Rock Series K10 comes in at only RM169, making it a very value oriented keyboard. I would wholeheartedly recommend the K10 to anyone looking to try out what a mechanical keyboard feels like in daily use but doesn't want to spend too much yet. I'm addicted to the tactile feel of this keyboard to the point that I don't have the motivation to type on my notebook's chiclet keyboard. While the K10 is not as full featured as other name brand keyboards with software support, the price and the tactile feel really makes it too good of a deal to let go.
Last review of the month guys! It's been a good start to a year and I hope that it progresses like this throughout the year. Happy Chinese New Year too to those who are celebrating!

[REVIEW]Sonic Gear Pandora Micro

For a better formatted post with more pictures, check out the Original Post!
"This is the second part of a three part series covering Sonic Gear's Pandora Bluetooth Speakers. Remember to check out the concluding overview that will be posted after all three reviews are up and running."

Hello people, welcome back. Today I will be reviewing the Sonic Gear Pandora Micro, like the Pandora Mini, the Pandora Micro is also a portable Bluetooth audio solution. Without further ado, let's dive deep into what this tiny thing is all about.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX, KEN?

The Pandora Micro, 3.5mm jack cable, MicroUSB to USB cable and a piece of instruction.
TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Bluetooth profile: support HS/HF, A2DP, AVRCP, OPP
Total system power: RMS 5 Watts
Impedance: 4Ω
Driver: 2 x 40mm
Frequency response: 100Hz ~ 20KHz
Speaker function: Bluetooth, AUX-in, and Micro-SD card music playback
Handsfree function
Built-in rechargeable battery: 5 hours continues music playback at mid-volume

DESIGN

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My initial thought when unpacking the Pandora Micro is that it looks a lot like pumpkin, I swear if I coloured it orange and added a stem up on top that some animal would eventually try to claw through it. Jokes aside, the Pandora Micro is shaped much like an oval, unlike the other speakers in the Pandora series (Pandora 3: Rectangle, Pandora Mini: Rounded Rectangle). Unlike the Pandora 3 and Mini, the Micro's speaker is not knitted as closely and you can see the drivers inside.
Turning the Pandora Micro around, there's not much to see. From the left, there is a MicroSD card slot which is nifty to have. A MicroUSB port in order to charge the speaker and then your power switch. The power switch toggles you between 3 modes, having the switch at the far right turns the speakers off, having it at the middle will have you in Bluetooth mode, and to the far left is MicroSD mode. There are also media controls on the top of the unit which I will dive deeper into in the next section.

FUNCTIONALITY

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As I have just mentioned, the Pandora Micro also features media controls situated on top of the unit like his two bigger brothers in the Pandora series. Controls include: forwards, backwards, volume decrease and volume increase. Situated in the middle of these 4 controls, is a Bluetooth logo where you can use to pick up calls if your phone is connected to the speaker. If you have not notice already, I refrained from using the word 'button' because frankly it isn't one.
There is literally no feedback when you press any of the controls, making you constantly doubt yourself if you are actually activating the control or not. While this may not be the biggest deal breaker ever, I would presume this as an oversight from Sonic Gear for the other speakers in the Pandora series all have buttons that give feedback.
Compared to the stationary Pandora 3, the Micro has an effective range of 20 meters which is pretty impressive. I have tried out the range by walking the speaker down a corridor and I'm glad to say with no interruption, the audio does not jitter until the 20 meter mark. About the battery life, it lasted more than 5 hours for me but might differ depending on how high of a volume you are playing at. I was using it at perhaps the 40% volume mark, but it's hard to tell as there is no real indication.

AUDIO QUALITY

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Audio quality wise, there really isn't much to say. There's no bass that's for sure, and music doesn't sound exceptionally well with the Pandora Micro. What I would say though is that the Micro is able to stand it's ground against my laptop which has JBL speakers built-in. Quality wise it is quite comparable between the Micro and my built-in speakers, the only edge the Micro has over my default speakers is the maximum volume which may or may not matter to you.
I have to say though, when you get to an even higher volume on the Micro, the sound quality will start to degrade a little if you listen closely but seeing as you are in a situation where you need to crank up the volume to that high, that you wouldn't be able to notice the change in quality.

CONCLUSION

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The Pandora Micro presents itself as a very powerful audio solution in a portable and small form factor. If you are looking for a simple audio solution that you can keep in your bag without compromising volume-wise or it being a headphone/in-ears, the Pandora Micro might just suit your needs. The Pandora Micro comes in at a kind of reasonable price of MYR125.00 . In my opinion though, unless you are going to have pseudo-random parties or dance practices, I would recommend you to go for a good pair of headphones or in-ears for a much more optimal experience.

Remember to check out the concluding overview that will be posted after all three reviews are up and running."

If you have been in the market looking for sound solutions (headphones, speaker etc.), chances are you have heard of Sonic Gear. Sonic Gear's product range is as wide as it gets, from the budget low-end to the bleeding edge sound solutions. To start off the series, I will be reviewing the big brother of the Pandora line of Bluetooth speakers, the Pandora 3.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX KEN?
The speaker, 3.5mm jack cable, the power plug, a stand for your phone to sit on and some paperwork.

The Pandora 3 ft. my HTC One X

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Total system power (RMS): 16 watts
Speaker playback frequency response: 40Hz ~ 20KHz
Built-in mid-range speaker driver: 2 x 2”
Built-in subwoofer driver: 3”
Built-in bass driver reflector: 2 x (50 x 90mm)
Signal-to-Noise ratio: ≥ 60dB
Input/output source: Bluetooth, Built-in 3.5mm AUX-in jack, Hands-free Phone Calls
Bluetooth version: CSR BC05 V2.1
Speaker input voltage: 12VAC Voltage: 110V~240V, 50/60Hz
Product dimension: 290 x 103 x 121mm

DESIGN

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The Pandora 3 sports a pretty simple industrial design that most speakers also go by. The front grill is etched with the word 'Pandora' that you can feel bulging out. Talking about the front grill, the front grill is tightly knitted to the point where you aren't able to see the drivers inside the speaker. The only driver you are able to see is the bass driver situated under the unit.
With its clean lines and the stylish black finish, you would think that the Pandora 3 would fit in anywhere in you would want to put it, but sadly no, you are under the restraint of the reach of the power plug. While I'm certainly fine with having a Bluetooth speaker that requires itself to be plugged in to function, the fact that the reach of the power plug is so short that it would barely make it from the power plug under my table to on top of my table just left a very bad impression about the product to me.

FUNCTIONALITY

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Before we go in depth about the audio quality of the Pandora 3, I would like to highlight some of it functions. If you don't already know, the Pandora 3 features Bluetooth functionality where you are able to pair devices that sport Bluetooth like phones, tablets and notebooks.
If one were to pair their phone to the Pandora 3, they would be able to answer calls via hands-free from the speaker. There's an accept call button on the speaker that also functions as a play button when there are no incoming calls. The Pandora 3 also features a microphone built into the device itself so as long as you are in vicinity of the speaker, the caller on the other side would be able to hear you clearly.
As I have mentioned earlier, the "answer" button also functions as a "Play" button. You would be able to play and pause on demand from the speaker and skip through your playlist if you so desire with the "Forward" and "Backward" buttons situated further right of the "Play" button.
Of course like any other wireless technology, there's a range limit for the Bluetooth function on the Pandora 3, the limit is 8 meters to be exact, and that is assuming there is no interference (walls, other Bluetooth signals, etc.) I have tried it out by taking my phone out of my room and walking across the living area, the sound starts to jitter before I even reach the 8 meter range because of the walls in between. While on paper 8 meters seems like a little too short, it is certainly enough for like a living area and what not.
Other than the Bluetooth function, one would be able to directly plug in their device through the Aux jack using a 3.5mm audio jack cable that is included inside the package.

AUDIO QUALITY

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Now we come to the most important of the review, how does it actually fare as a speaker? Let me first explain what kind of music listener I am. Most of the times I listen to your average Joe Top 40s but I also listen to a lot of KPop and the occasional dubstep when I'm gaming.
After some extensive testing ranging from dubstep music to classical Mozart symphonies, the Pandora 3 is certainly able to stand its ground among other speakers within its price range. I can feel the bass when listening to songs which is always a plus for me but might differ down to personal opinion.
The 2x50mm drivers the Pandora 3 features also provide adequate loudness without diluting the quality of the audio being played. In ideal situations (eg. the device that the speaker is connected to is on the same table), the sound quality over Bluetooth is on par with when you connect your device to the speaker via the AUX mode.
Now it all comes down to gaming, which I take heavy consideration into when choosing a sound solution. While I can't say that getting the Pandora 3 would raise your awareness in game or enable you to listen to enemy footsteps and what not, the Pandora 3 would certainly not degrade your gaming experience if you are used to a 2.1 sound setup experience.

CONCLUSION

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To round it up, I am pretty satisfied with the Pandora 3. Noticeable differences between the highs and lows, nice bass, the always welcomed wireless connectivity and its added functions, simple and stylish design is what I like about it. But it certainly isn't perfect with the short power cable and its not so long enough wireless range. The Pandora 3 will run you for about SRP: RM142. If you are looking for a simple and compact audio solution without compromising on the audio quality, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Pandora 3 for you.

Pros & Cons

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Pros:
Wireless connectivity over Bluetooth with phone functions and media controls
Good audio quality
Simple, stylish and compact
Cons:
Pitiful power cable length
Janky wireless range

Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

First debuted at PAX 2013, the G602 wireless gaming mouse is fundamentally designed to solve the problems of what people might have with wireless mice, worrying that it might run out of battery midway through a gaming session or there will be too much input delay resulting in lag and all gamers know that lag is nothing you want to deal with especially playing online games. So without further a due, here is my review of the Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse. For a better formatted review with more pictures do check out the post on my blog HERE

WHAT'S IN THE BOX, KEN?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The mouse (of course), 2 AA Duracell batteries, a non-Unifying wireless receiver, an extender for the receiver and a quick start guide.

TECH SPECS

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Tracking
Resolution: 250 – 2,500 dpi
Max. acceleration: >20G
Max. speed: up to 2 meters/second (80ips)
Responsiveness
USB data format: 16 bits/axis
USB report rate: Up to 500 reports/second
Glide
Dynamic coefficient of friction - Mu (k): .09
Static coefficient of friction - Mu (s): .14
Durability
Buttons (Left / Right): 20 million clicks
Feet: 250 kilometers
Battery Life and Wireless
Performance mode: up to 250 hours
Endurance mode: up to 1440 hours
Wireless range: up to 3 meters

DESIGN

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The mouse in its entirety.

If you have not already seen it, the G602 sports a kinda weird shape if you ask me. Unlike normal mice that usually has a kind of a symmetrical bottle shaped body, the G602 is more like an oval shape. At first sight you would think that this mouse was intended for left handed usage but it is actually for right handed usage. Lefties can still use this mouse but I don't think they can utilize the extra buttons on the left side of the mouse (unless you have godly pinky strength of course).

Talking about extra buttons, you have a 2x3 layout for the extra buttons on the side. I was sceptical about this layout at first but it quickly changed after the first few hours of using the mouse. Fortunately enough, it is easy to remember which button you are pressing with your muscle memory. You also have 2 small buttons at the corner of your left mouse click which are the default buttons for DPI switching.

And if you were looking for cool LEDs, unfortunate for you because they are no flashy LEDs on the mouse other than the a tiny indicator below the mouse wheel that lights up blue/green for a moment when you switch between performance mode and endurance mode. This indicator also shows you the battery level where you can press the G6 button as default to check.

Comfortability wise, the mouse has nice contrasting textures like the smooth touch rubber where your palm would be on and the roughly textured sides so you can maintain your grip without much effort. The aforementioned weird shape is also very ergonomic for the typical right-handed mouse user.

Let's shift the focus to what's down and under the mouse. One thing you could immediately see is the abundant amount of mouse feet padding. Other than that, the mouse feet allow the G602 to be used on almost any surface without the need of a mouse mat. Perfect for people like me who literally use my notebook anywhere on a plethora of different surfaces.

So what is this Delta Zero sensor that Logitech deploys in the G602? Well, there hasn't been any official word on exactly what sensor it is. All I could say is, the sensor does get the job done. The mouse can go up to a maximum of 2500dpi, which is more than enough for me.

What's essential to a wireless mouse? The battery of course. Included in the package is 2 AA batteries which will power the mouse for up to 250 hours. Compared to using a proprietary rechargeable battery, this means you can easily find a new set of batteries to replace if it eventually goes kapoof. Oh and did I mention you are able to use the mouse even with only one AA battery? So there's that.

So how about the receiver? As you might have already know, it is specified that this mice uses a non-unifying receiver. Why? To prevent any interference from other Logitech products. The unique receiver also allows for the mouse to have no input lag, claims Logitech.

FUNCTIONALITY

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As I have said before, a lot of the functionality that gaming peripherals have all come from their respective software, Logitech's being the Logitech Gaming Software. There are two different software modes you can redefine for, the "On-Board Memory" mode and "Automatic Game Detection" mode.

In "On-Board Memory" mode, you get to remap normal keystrokes like Ctrl+C onto the mouse and have the mouse save said keystroke in it's on-board memory. This allows you to plug it into other computers which don't have the Logitech Gaming Software installed but still have custom keys mapped onto the mouse. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

Next comes the "Automatic Game Detection" mode, which ironically does what it's named after. Other than having the special commands specific to games, this mode also helps you to switch between different profiles when an .exe is detected. You can easily set up new profiles for new games and even productivity software like PowerPoint and what not. Of course, don't forget about the macro recording function that almost every other gaming peripheral has.

CONCLUSION

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My personal experience using this mouse for more than 2 months is that the G602 is one of the best wireless mice I have ever used. I really like this mouse for it's portability without compromising on the functionality. The battery has yet to die on me even though I have been using it extensively. The Logitech G602 is basically everything you are looking for in a gaming mouse; precision, functionality and performance all while being wireless. I whole heartedly recommend this mouse for anyone that looks for the above criteria. The Logitech G602 retails for RM269.00 and is readily available at all major retailers.
