TM teams up with Huawei: TM ONE Cloud Alpha

KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Telekom Malaysia Bhd ™, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, has introduced TM ONE Cloud a (Cloud Alpha) services, which offer cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud operations and cloud AI infrastructure.

Group chief executive officer Datuk Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin said the services would enable Malaysian companies, enterprises and the public sector to obtain an extensive suite of cloud computing services beginning October this year.

“The partnership with Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd will enable TM to accelerate the digital services and solutions to the nation, striding forward as the only Malaysian-owned end-to-end cloud infrastructure service provider.

“With this partnership, we will be able to offer our customers a whole suite of cloud services spanning the standard infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS),” he said at the memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing ceremony between TM ONE and Huawei here today.

The MoA was signed between TM ONE executive vice-president and chief executive officer Ahmad Taufek Omar, TM ONE vice-president of sales Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi, Huawei Malaysia vice-president of carrier network business group Zac Chow, and Huawei Malaysia vice-president of Cloud and AI Lim Chee Siong.

It was witnessed by Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

Noor Kamarul said the services covered Industry Solutions, Enterprise Application Services, Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT) solution, among others.

He added that the Cloud a service will enable TM ONE’s customers to also enjoy the power of reliable, secure, agile and future-ready cloud platform and services to drive their digital transformation journey.

Besides, Huawei Malaysia chief executive officer Michael Yuan said the company will play a more proactive developmental role in providing ready infrastructure and ecosystem to support government aspirations of industry transformation and the construction of more national AI centre, as well as cultivate more Cloud and AI talents in Malaysia.

“Besides talent development, the MoA also outlined various initiatives to further drive foreign cloud and data transaction back to Malaysia and positioned the country as the leader in Cloud and AI era,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zahidi, in his speech, said the initiative further supports the government’s digital economy aspirations to offer digital services and solutions to the nations.

“Malaysia will now focus on economic growth and towards reaping the full benefits of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Therefore, today’s MoA is a step in the right direction,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — The previous order to restrict 24-hour restaurants in Kuala Lumpur to only 16 hours — during the nationwide Covid-19 shutdown — has been rescinded, Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham A. Dahlan said.

In a notice dated March 19 and posted today on Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Facebook page, the mayor said there was a previous order made for 24-hour restaurants in Kuala Lumpur to only open from 6am to 10pm from March 19 to March 31.

But the mayor said this restriction will no longer apply.

“After considering the public’s best interests, the restricted business operating hours order from 6am to 10pm is lifted. However, the business premises (restaurants) still need to obey to only services via drive-thru, delivery and takeaway,” the notice said, adding that this order may be subject to change.

The mayor also said stern action will be taken against those who fail to comply.

According to DBKL which posted this notice on its Facebook page in Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil, Myanmar, Bangladesh, the notice for this order has been distributed in the same six languages.

Face masks, social distancing to avoid closure

Separately, DBKL also posted today a notice dated today by the Kuala Lumpur mayor that laid down three rules relating to supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants, public and private markets in Kuala Lumpur that will take effect until March 31.

The mayor said that all licensees, workers, visitors, buyers and suppliers who wish to enter such places will have to wear face masks and practise social distancing or staying one metre apart from each other.

“The owner/businesses are responsible for controlling the number of visitors in supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants and public and private markets at a time to ensure social distance,” the notice said.

The mayor warned that such places will be closed down under the Local Government Act 1976 if the order is not complied with.

Previously, the KL mayor had also issued a notice listing out all the businesses in Kuala Lumpur that must close during the nationwide two-week shutdown of non-essential activities from March 18 to March 31.

These include shopping complexes, business complexes, entertainment premises, stalls by the roadside, food trucks, mobile hawkers, pasar malam or night markets, morning markets, pasar tani or farmers’ markets, and bazaars.

However, the mayor also said restaurants, hawker centres, food courts will be allowed to operate drive-through services, delivery and takeaways during this time, while others allowed to stay open are supermarkets, public markets in buildings, grocery stores, convenience stores, clinics, pharmacies and premises involved with essential services.

Food suppliers running out of boxes, cartons

FOOD supplies might be disrupted next week as manufacturers are running out of packaging for their products, said sources.

Two food manufacturers told The Malaysian Insight they will run out of cartons, paper boxes and other types of packaging as their suppliers have been ordered to stop working.

“Manufacturing food is just one part of the operation,” said the executive of a company that produces soft drinks, confectionery and other drink products.

“But there are many other vital components that ensure the products we manufacture get to consumers.”

Along the line, the source said, are logistics, ingredients and most of all packaging.

“Even if we can continue manufacturing our foodstuff, we can’t get it to the retailers, distributors and eventually supermarkets and grocery shops if we can’t pack them into carton boxes,” he said.

The executive said their packaging suppliers told them on Thursday they can’t supply any more packaging as the authorities have ordered them to cease operations due to the movement-control order (MCO).

“Unless something is done quickly, we will run out of boxes and cartons next week,” he added.

He showed The Malaysian Insight a copy of the letter from the packaging manufacturer to its employees about ceasing production.

On Wednesday, the first day of the MCO, the National Security Council issued a statement to say exemptions will be given to certain manufacturers.

After consulting the various manufacturing stakeholders, the government approved, with conditions, for critical manufacturers to continue operating.

Among the conditions include operational capacity at 50%, a shift system for workers, a list of their details, a system to check body temperatures of all the staff, adequate hand sanitisers at the factory premises and a list of their products and clients.

Those on the critical list included manufacturers of foodstuff, cleaning materials, personal protective equipment, pharmaceuticals, packaging and printing items, medical equipment and support items for the medical industry, such as ventilators.

Despite that, on Thursday, several packaging manufacturers were told to stop working, pending their applications to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti).

One packaging manufacturer showed documents submitted to Miti on Wednesday, as per requirements.

“But we haven’t received any reply yet. Added to that, we were told by local council officers to stop our operations,” said the packaging manufacturer.

Another food producer told The Malaysian Insight that his company would also have to stop work next week as it has run out of packaging.

“We only have enough boxes until next Wednesday. After that, we’re stuck,” said the officer. – March 21, 2020.

Even with my wifi turned off, I can't access m.maxis.com/spotify, it keeps redirecting me to wap.maxis.com.my/maxiswap4/info.html then redirects me to maxis.com.my/spotify, which is just the instructions page. I already have the hotlink RED app but the banner also links to the instructions page, not the activate page.

I don't want the 1GB free spotify option as i'm already comfortable with my current plan. Please if anyone can help i need my daily dose of music

Last night i was using a laptop, printing something and my bro 'tumpang' my avr for hairdryer... so, hairdryer + fan + laptop + printing = broken avr. it went dead; i suspect it's the fuse so i wanna change it. but i can't seem to open the fuse box/button. i tried pressing it, prying it, sliding it, nothing : See the attachment.. Anyone with the same model care to help?
