Jakarta's Asian Game is getting near. There is one river besides the Asian Games Athletes' Village where the smell is quite unbearable.
North Korea reserved the right to shoot down US

North Korea accuses US of declaring war

North Korea's foreign minister has accused US President Donald Trump of declaring war on his country.
Ri Yong-ho told reporters in New York that North Korea reserved the right to shoot down US bombers.
This applied even when they were not in North Korean airspace, the minister added. The world "should clearly remember" it was the US that first declared war, Mr Ri said.
The two sides have been engaged in an increasingly angry war of words.

BBC

My KL's SEA GAMES Experience

Well I go to this event with some friends.

Overall I rate this whole thing 40/100. Actually I should have fail it for obvious security loophole. I shall list down few thing here.

1. FAILED CROWD MANAGEMENT

Some of you might know that Stadium Bukit Jalil is one of the largest stadium in the world where it could accommodate up to 100k people. So they should be really careful with crow control as massive amount of people will flood that area in a short time. Human stampede can happen anytime.

a. Bukit Jalil LRT station

Design of the station already fail. Once you get off the train at the Bukit Jalil LRT station... you can see lots of people there. Then LOTS OF PEOPLE are queuing to buy token from the LRT token machine and counter which blocking the human flow from the faregate. Don't ask me why they don't use touch and go. First of all the token machine are place too close to the faregate. 10 people queuing there will block the faregate entrance already... imagine hundred of people queuing there, what will happen to the human flow from the faregate?

I am not sure what standard they use when building this bukit jail station but i went to few train station which are close to a stadium before for example London O2 arena. Once you step into the North Greenwich train station which is just besides the O2 Arena, you can definitely feel that the design of the station is different with other as it is design to handle massive amount of people. It does not need to be a big station as the North Greenwich station is not that big also. However the design of the passenger pedestrian pathway is special... if there is less than 10k people then they can just enter the station in normal pathway. If there is 20k people then the police can block certain entrance and open certain entrance which will have longer pathway for public to enter the train station. The police can easily adjust and control the human flow pattern depending on the situation like 20k people, 30k people, 40k people and so on. With design like this, massive crowd of people will walk into the train station smoothly and under control instead of bukit jalil style...suddenly thousand of people flooding into the station without order and with only 1 entrance. :nuts:

This is a BIG WARNING to the LRT 3 which will have one station besides the Shah Alam Stadium. DESIGN THE STATION PROPERLY FOR CROWD CONTROL.

b. Security gate

Some of you might read from the news that the security for this event will be very strict to prevent any terrorist attack. They even bring the airport security gate system there and everyone will need to pass through he gate for security check. Well FYI the security gate only use for the 1st hour and then they give up and they just ask the people to go through without checking. WHY? BECAUSE TOO MANY PEOPLE AND THEY CANNOT HANDLE THE CROWD !!! The security check is too slow and if they check every audience there... I think only 50% of people manage to enter the stadium on time.

So they give up the security part... this is unacceptable. If there are some terrorist take this opportunity and sneak inside? Who will held responsible for it? You set a high security check on everyone but you don't have enough equipment to handle super large crowd of people and end up not follow it and just allow people to walk in? Luckily nothing bad happen during the games but yeah... they screw up big time. I also wondering WHY NO MEDIA REPORT THIS ISSUE? No security check is a big issue.

Also the line to enter the stadium is very unorganised and many people just cut the line to enter. No people control the crowd. Not to mention many tent are blocking the entrance sign board.

Then the raining part... LOTS OF PEOPLE are queuing under the big rain... kesian them. Luckily i enter very early and avoided the rain.

c. Food and Drinks

Basically they don't allow any outside drinks and food to enter the stadium for security reason. We totally agree and abide so we didn't buy anything and we planning to buy some food and drinks after we get in. After we get in... there are only few food truck with super long queuing. Worst is none of them sell MINERAL WATER. I asked some staff there and they said "Air Mineral HABIS "(soft drink also don't have). You don't allow people to bring water inside and you don't plan properly to have enough water supply inside the stadium ? What you expect people to drink when they thirsty? Kencing ke ? We can only buy drinks like mango shake/coconut shake etc etc by queuing more than 1-2 hour. I personally que 1.5 hour just to get a coconut shake. Luckily in the end they manage to bring some mineral water inside and sell... but then its a bit too late as the show almost start. Then there is cut line incident and the food truck owner allow and they are so so so disorganise. I even see some people scold the boss with their unorganised management.

d. Confusing staff and volunteer

Don't laugh... we asked at least more than 10+ staff/volunteer there just to find our designated entrance. We ask 10+ staff and volunteer and all of them give us different answer. In the end we just find the entrance ourselves.

After all these I am still ok since I went there quite early and i get all i want although i line for like few hour. Then something bad happen to me which I lost my patient and I have to tune up my voice and talk to the staff. I got my ticket which is entrance A, L3. I go to my designated entrance and find a seat (its free seating). When i was just about to enter my designated entrance... one staff block me and ask me to use the entrance besides as the seats is already full. We are ok with it since it is just besides. So we follow their instruction and enter the entrance besides. After we enter, one staff approach us and said it is a VIP seats and we are not allow to be there. Then we tell the staff that other side is full and the staff there ask us to sit here. Then the staff ask us to follow him back to our designated entrance and he will sort it out for us.

Then after some discussion between the staff... the staff walk back to us and say no more seats there. Then I ask what is he going to do about it. He told me that we definitely cannot sit besides as those are VIP seats. Then he "merely suggest" us to try our luck upstair and see whether go empty seats or not. I then cannot tahan la coz we already walk here walk there and now he want us to try our luck at other place without giving us a real solution. I then asked him loudly "Saya ada tiket kat sini, macam mana boleh tak ada tempat duduk?" Then the staff like very guilty and walk away and ask other staff try to find us some seat. Then only those staff start to move around and and ask where got empty seat. If i don't voice up my rights... i think we won't get any seats there.

Well there are still some other complain but its quite minor so i don't bother to mention here.

Ok la don't just keep complaining. There are also some good thing there. For example the toilet is good. I am very satisfied with the toilet as it is big and sufficient. Environment of KL Sports city is good. The performance is still ok and I feel quite patriotic during the whole thing. Proud of Malaysia. But yeah lots of improvement needed.

[attachmentid=9060511]

[attachmentid=9060512]

[attachmentid=9060513]

[attachmentid=9060514]

[attachmentid=9060515]

[attachmentid=9060516]

[attachmentid=9060517]

[attachmentid=9060518]

Malaysia transport users get best Asean deal

[attachmentid=8689742]

Malaysian commuters look like they are getting the best value for money in the region when it comes to daily transportation.

Malaysia ranks high on all measures of quality for its transportation infrastructure in the latest World Economic Forum (WEF)report on global economic competitiveness.

Malaysians are paying about the same for transport as citizens of other Asean countries where the infrastructure is significantly poorer, according to the our latest proprietary data. Indeed, Malaysians spend less as a proportion of their income than Asean rivals when it comes to transport.

Malaysia’s high WEF scoring can be explained by its having made large infrastructure investments earlier than other Asean countries. Mahathir Mohamad, a former prime minister, was behind a push in the early 1980s to industrialise Malaysia quickly to encourage foreign investment.

Malaysian spending on transport rose to 0.7 per cent of gross domestic product in 2016, from 0.6 per cent the previous year. Spending is expect to at least match that level this year, with Najib Razak, the current prime minister, having made infrastructure a key priority.

One landmark project is the Sungai Buloh — Kajang mass transit line, a driverless commuter rail system that will connect an area north-west of the capital Kuala Lumpur with Kajang, a fast-developing town located to the south-east.

Malaysia’s good fortune has come at a price, however. The country had the highest debt-to-GDP level of the so-called Asean-5 in 2016 at 53 per cent, compared with 42 per cent for the Philippines.

Financial Times

Philippines received all 48 set train

48 new MRT-3 coaches cannot be used until next year

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — New Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) coaches have finally arrived in the country, but a transportation official said on Wednesday the new units would not be usable for at least a year to a year and a half.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for the Rail Sector Cesar Chavez said while the 48 Dalian coaches had been delivered, the management still had to address various issues before they could be used.

Chinese companies Dalian Locomotive Corp. and Rolling Stock Co. supplied the new MRT-3 coaches as part of a ₱3.8-billion contract in 2014.

"Ang expectation ng tao ay magagamit ito. Ang pakiramdam ko ay hindi natin magagmait ito in the next one to 1.5 years," he said.

[Translation: The people expect the trains could be used immediately. I have the feeling they will not be usable in the next one to 1.5 years.]

Chavez said one of the issues to be addressed was that the MRT did not have enough power supply to run the 48 additional cars, which is equivalent to 16 trains.

"Para magamit mo iyan, kelangan i-expand mo iyong power. Ang power matatapos nang November 2017," he explained.

[Translation: To use the new trains, power needs to be expanded. The power supply would be finished by November 2017.]

He added the Transportation department has already contracted companies to increase the power supply in the MRT-3 line.

Chavez also said the signaling system of the new trains was yet to be installed, while the trains' rails needed to be fixed.

"Para gumana iyan sa, para masuyod lahat ng nakapila dyan…maayos dapat ang riles. Ngayon, from 65 kph nasa 40 kph na lang ang takbo," he said.

[Translation: For it to work, to service all the passengers…the rails have to be fixed. Now, from 65 kph, the trains run at 40 kph only.]

Meanwhile, MRT Director for Operations Deo Leo Manalo said the new signaling system for the new Dalian trains was already being installed and undergoing tests for completion.

In fact, Manalo said he expected two trains -- each with three coaches -- might already be used soon.

"We're planning to run two trains by that time we receive the certification from Bombardier that the trains are safe. We'll finish that within one month or two."

Bombardier Transportation Signal, Ltd. is in charge of upgrading the signaling system of the MRT, after being commissioned by the now defunct Department of Transportation and Communications back in 2015.

As of now, the MRT caters to almost half a million passengers daily, with twenty trains plying the North Edsa to Pasay-Taft route every day, from as early as 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

CNN PHILIPPINES

Summary

Philippines ordered 48 set of train from China's Dalian company. China delivered all 48 set to Philippines but those train cannot run until 1.5 years later.

The reason is:

1. the line don't have enough power supply to run all these 48 set of train and they need 1.5 years time to solve it,
2. the new train signalling system haven't be install yet,
3. the track cannot support the new train and need to be fixed.

Also they didn't build new deport / expand their depot to accommodate all these new train and thus these new train are left on un-used train track under hot sun and heavy rain. What a waste.

ASEAN 1st Hyperloop

Indonesia Embraces HTT with $2.5 Million Hyperloop Feasibility Study

PLAYA VISTA, Calif., March 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) announced today the signing of an agreement for a feasibility study with a contract value of 2.5 Million USD with private investors. This agreement marks the immediate exploration of the feasibility for a Hyperloop™ system for Indonesia with an initial focus on Jakarta, and a full exploration of Hyperloop transportation connecting Java and Sumatra.

This is the first Hyperloop™ agreement in Southeast Asia.

With a population of over 260 million, Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world. The city of Jakarta, with a population of over 10 million people, faces some of the worst traffic in the world with a commonplace daily four hour commute. An estimated 70% of the air pollution comes from vehicles. A Hyperloop™ system would go to great lengths to help solve these issues. For example, a Hyperloop™ route from Jakarta to Yogyakarta would take approximately 25 minutes, compared to nearly 10 hours via automobile. Jakarta to neighboring Bandung would take 9 minutes, versus the current 2.5 hours, and a Hyperloop™ connecting Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the Jakarta city center would take 5 minutes, compared to 30 minutes.

"Indonesia, and Jakarta in particular, is one of the most densely populated areas in the world," said HTT Chairman, Bibop Gresta. "With traffic and congestion being such a big issue there, the Hyperloop will be a welcome transformation for the region."

Hyperloop

Malaysia no more Nepalis 1st Choice

Has Malaysia lost its charm?

Malaysia is no longer the number one destination for Nepali migrant due to a number unsettled issues

Just like millions of Nepalis, who dream to go abroad and earn money, Milan Rana went to Malaysia. “It was my first destination of choice because the weather and the culture seemed more favourable than other countries,” he shared. However, he is now back in Nepal and is considering going to work in another country. “I do not think I will go back to Malaysia,” he stated.

Rana revealed that he was not deprived from food and shelter, or did he face any problems regarding payment but had a lot of security issues. “The crime rate was really high. There is a lot of theft and robbery,” he claimed. He also added that because of the devaluation of the Ringgit, he was not earning as much for the same amount of work.

The country had enforced the provision of ‘free visa, free ticket’ for Nepali migrant workers seeking employment in Malaysia along with other six gulf countries last year.

The vast majority of Nepalis going to Malaysia are security guards and factory workers. The country had been hiring security guards exclusively from Nepal for the past 10 years.

There are three major reasons.

The first being the massive earthquake that struck Nepal in April 2015, which led many workers to came back to Nepal to look after their families.
Second, Malaysian government froze the intake of workers from other countries including Nepal as the country had to sort out its in house procedures.
Thirdly, due to depreciation of the value of the Malaysian Ringgit, Nepali workers are more inclined towards gulf nations.

TheHimalayanTimes

Singapore authorities are providing relevant assistance to Hong Kong customs and expect the shipment to return to Singapore expeditiously,” the ministry said in a statement.

South China Post

9 armoured vehicles bound for Singapore 'delayed' at Hong Kong customs

SINGAPORE: A shipment of nine armoured military vehicles used by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) was being held at Hong Kong's Kwai Chung Container Terminal, Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirmed on Thursday (Nov 24).

In a statement, MINDEF said it was a shipment of Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicles (ICVs) and associated equipment with no ammunition, used by the SAF for overseas training. It was delayed "due to a request for routine inspections by the Hong Kong Customs authorities".

A statement from Hong Kong's Customs and Excise Department said 12 Singapore-bound containers containing "suspected controlled items" were found in a routine search of a ship from Taiwan, AFP reported. It also said licences and proof of transshipment were needed for certain munitions and weapons, even if they were only in transit.

Channel News Asia

Singapore will likely have to deal with China's foreign ministry to get it vehicles back

World's 10 busiest air routes

Singapore on 4 of world's 10 busiest air routes

[attachmentid=8127008]

Singapore sits at one end of four of the world's 10 busiest international air routes, it has been revealed. This boosts the country's aspiration to be Asia's key aviation hub despite the economic downturn.

But experts said Changi faces tough competition from other airports in the region, especially Hong Kong airport, which features in five of the top 10 routes.

The busiest route, based on last year's passenger numbers, is Hong Kong-Taipei. This is followed by Jakarta-Singapore. Kuala Lumpur-Singapore, Hong Kong-Singapore and Bangkok-Singapore are also in the top 10 list.

News Straits Times

If KL-SG line have 348 flights per week then it means that every 30 minute there will be a plane fly from KL to Singapore. By the time KL-SG HSR completed in 2026, the number of flights might increase further and HSR might be able to get a share from that air route. Kuala Lumpur - Singapore HSR might be able to get profit since HSR is meant to compete with flight.

Trump: US to quit TPP trade deal on first day in office

[youtube]7xX_KaStFT8[/youtube]

President-elect Donald Trump says the US will quit the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal on his first day in the White House.

He made the announcement in a video message outlining what he intends to do first when he takes office in January.

The TPP trade deal was signed by 12 countries which together cover 40% of the world's economy.

Mr Trump also pledged to reduce "job-killing restrictions" on coal production and stop visa abuses.

But there was no mention of repealing Obamacare or building a wall on the southern border with Mexico, two actions he said during the campaign he would do as soon as he assumed power.

BBC

Trump to dump TPP trade deal: World leaders react

US President-elect Donald Trump has announced he plans to quit the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal on his first day in the White House.

The TPP was signed by 12 countries which together cover 40% of the world's economy, but has not yet been ratified.

Asia-Pacific leaders meeting at an economic summit in Peru over the weekend pledged to pursue free trade deals despite Mr Trump's opposition.

But when the US withdraws, what will the fate of the TPP be?

Here is some reaction.

QUOTE

Malcolm Turnbull, Australian prime minister
Time will tell whether and to what extent the new administration and the new congress engages with the TPP or an evolved version of that agreement. There is very strong support among the other 11 parties to the TPP to ratify it and to seek to bring it into force. So Mr Trump and his new congress will have to make their own decisions in America's interest. It is very clear that from Australia's point of view, getting greater access for Australian exports, whether it is goods or services to those big markets is manifestly in our interest.

QUOTE

John Key, New Zealand prime minister
The United States is not an island. It can't just sit there and say it's not going to trade with the rest of the World, and at some point it will have to give some consideration to that.

QUOTE

Najib Razak, Malaysian prime minister
It is President-elect Donald Trump's right as the democratically-elected next leader of the United States to make the policy decisions he thinks right. I am a strong supporter of developing trade and open regionalism in Asia Pacific. It is key to benefiting our peoples. I look forward to working with President-elect Trump on our shared goals of strengthening security and ensuring growth that is inclusive, sustainable and fair to all.

BBC
