Most colorful Glassdoor review you have ever seen?

When job-hunting I tend to read glassdoor reviews extensively to get a better picture of the kinds of issues within. Every company has issues, but to understand what the issues are specifically might give you some points during your turn to ask questions in the interview. Over time, I have come across quite a few dramatic ones. Iflix comes to mind, along with some of the reviews from Lazada. Some are even quite entertaining to read!

What are some of the best (worst?) glassdoor reviews you have ever read? Jom sharing.

Worley Malaysia

Hey guys, just wondering if anybody can share on what this company is like from an insider's perspective, no holds barred.

I have a second interview with them soon. I understand it's an MNC and therefore they're taking their own sweet time since this is a new role, but before I get to the stage where I need to say yes or or to the offer, I thought I'd do a quick survey here to see if the impression I have of them from Glassdoor being a "good work life balance" company is true or not. If anybody works there or knows friends there, I'd appreciate some feedback about the company, in particular these aspects:

- Compensation (would you say it is average or above average?)
- Culture in terms of work life balance (a lot of adhoc sudden requests, or everything slow and steady according to plan)
- Benefits (what benefits exactly do you enjoy from Worley?)
- Job satisfaction : a rough idea of what you do there, and is it meaningful/challenging or just typical BPO boring shit? (which isnt entirely a bad thing if you wanna chill and take salary btw)

Feel free to mention any other aspects as well.

Overtime Laws in Malaysia

When signing a work contract in any typical Malaysian company, there's always that clause that goes like "additional work may be required outside of stipulated office hours blablabla" which basically is a big FUCK YOU to any hopes of overtime compensation. So far out of the 4 companies I've worked in, only 1 ever had any official OT that you need to apply for and the company will really pay you extra for those hours worked. That company was an MNC, and the tasks were rather easy, just required time to complete. Bosses will think twice before they give you extra work because it will mean company needs to pay extra money. So they have an incentive to hire more people and ensure nobody gets burnt out.

Why cant more Malaysian companies be like this too? Instead, your bosses will tell you that we have X tons of work that needs to be done by next week, and they will never say it out loud that you need to OT, but in reality you KNOW that you need to to OT in order to finish in time. So, you pandai-pandailah sacrifice your weekends. This isnt right and it's time we talk about this culture of "die die also the foot soldiers must do, because we want our department to look good in front of C level". This aint right yo.

Where to buy Philips Trimmer Replacement Blade

Hey guys, where can I find the replacement blade for this model of trimmer in Malaysia? It's been almost 2 years and the blades are becoming dull and can injure people when using!

I cannot seem to find this replacement on lazada or lelong, so maybe it's a bit hard to get? Would be a pity to throw away the whole thing, I dont mind spending RM100 to buy new blade for it.

Thank you in advance.

Data Industry Peeps, Come In Plz

This question is directed to all of you business analysts (the SQL kind, not the draw-up-requirements-and-paperwork type), data analysts, BI analysts, data scientists, data engineers etc. :

How many of you can say that the data job you're working in, is 100% focused on the interesting stuff (Modelling, ML, Cloud Engineering/Architecture etc.) only? Or if there is a mix of un-sexy stuff (reporting, dumb dashboard maintenance etc) that you need to handle, what's the % of it in your day to day tasks?
UM Masters Application Processing Time

Hi LYN sifus,

I've applied to study masters (coursework based) in UM for the coming September 2019 intake. Application completed on 13th Feb 2019, however until now I have not received any updates from UM on whether I am accepted. Emailed the faculty to ask, but no reply. I'm not sure how this works. I did my degree in private U back then, and so I am unfamiliar with public uni procedures. Must I wait until application closes, then only the staff will start looking at the applications one by one? Not first come, first serve ah?

Applications close on 31st May according to their brochure. UM Application Brochure
Will be starting work at BS soon. In the midst of finding new place to live and all. Need some more information to sort out this chaotic situation of determining where to live.

Can anyone here advise on the following?

Parking
- Is there parking at Avenue 5? if not, where is the nearest I can park?
- How much is the season pass?
- Is it very limited, need to fight for it?

Lunch Expenses
- roughly how much per meal there?
- where do yall usually eat lunch? Could you list some according to price tier? (e.g. RM 15 - RM20: KFC, McD, etc...)

Ideal living location
- do you commute and get off at LRT kerinchi? how far is the walk from there to Avenue 5?
- if you're driving, where do you stay and how long does it take you?
- How do you deal with the infamous BS peak hour jam? (one of the reason why I am considering not to drive but take LRT)

Touch 'n Go Digital Sdn Bhd

Hi guys I have recently gone for an interview with TNG Digital, I think there is a high possibility to get offered within this week or the next.

Prior to the interview, there was also a small technical test, I only managed to complete 4 out of 5 questions lmao. After a quick face to face discussion with the hiring manager, there was a question about my salary expectation, I shrugged and said 20% increase from what I'm paid now. I wasn't thinking too much at that time, since I expected to be disappointed yet again. As for the interview I did not take it too seriously either (quite demotivated and disappointed due to a long long long journey with many interviews with other companies prior to this one) and so I didn't ask so many questions on the spot. From my previous various interview experiences, I felt like when I ask too many questions and take things seriously, end up I don't get offered. TBH I just went to this interview for the sake of showing up only. I didn't really think anything good would come out of it.

To my utter surprise, within a few hours after interview, the HR already emailed me to arrange my medical checkup, and I have already completed it over the weekend. Now I feel like I should have found out more about the workload before spouting my expected salary from TNG Digital. Now, they did say they are still a startup, working with Alipay and Touch and Go, so I am wondering how is the workload there? Are the benefits and everything worth it? I am the kind of person who don't mind working OT 1-2 days a week, if I can see that the company gives enough benefit and cares about its employees. The feeling I got from the Bangsar South office was a very loud and cheerful sort of environment with a lot of hoohah type of colleagues, so I think culture-wise, should be quite fun la.
