First Day of School Stress for parent n child

First day of standard 1 for my gal is fast approaching.. sending shivers down my spine.

She didn't take it well during orientation. Really hope she can handle actual Day 1.

Any tips from experienced parents out there?

During these school holidays, whenever I get a chance to go back home during lunch hour, I will always see my 5 and 7 year old girls watching DVD cartoons like Barbie etc.. Its so different from what we used to do back in the 80's.. But then again I cannot compared then and now because there is really nothing much you can do in a typical terrace house in KL without much open space around.

I used to wander around my kampung house, visit neighbour's kids, catch some grasshoppers or catch some longkang fish... now you want to find clean longkang also difficult.

Should I be upset with them for always watching the TV? hmmm...? what can they do?
