Ordered my laptop since 18 of March, already more than a month, no update nothing about my order. Damn frust sial.

When I call them, they say if I want it fast I need to pay more to upgrade to a "better" laptop. wtf this business practice.

When my last month there, the boss force me to leave the company. It's due to company not making money and investor pulling out. I was like oklah just accept since they willing to pay extra one month and I resign but don't need to serve notice. Left 3 engineer in the comp. They quite confident the engineers won't leave although that time I already knew that they all planning their leave.

Now 2 of the Engineer left leaving only one. Last I heard that the company could not find any talent to fill in the role up to now. The designers are also leaving. All those who left are all the key people who build everything from ground up. I build the entire backend system for them including a content management system.

That time the boss very lanc says we got plan for this and that. Now I think everyone just realized that he can just talk but execution 0. That time when we told him the feature that he want to implement will cause problems in the future but he refuse to listen. Well all that problem now come biting him in the ass.

Sekian my rant/ I'm not in fortune 500 quite enjoying my work here with a boss who appreciate what I actually do. Also all my colleague left to join bigger company and all get higher pay despite Covid.

Update: That one guy also leaving soon, He just waiting to complete a whole year.

Update 2: Boss hire new programmer. Programmer dunno how to code. Programmer is like him also. Only know how to do consultancy but dunno how to implement. Friend say 3 more are leaving from the other department. The last guy from my team is confirm leaving also.

Final Update: My Ex Colleague just update me today that the company has officially close down and went under today. Today is also their last day.

I had interview with this MNC who from their website highlight that they fight for their employee work life balance.

When I ask how the work culture is. The guys( Tech guys) just straight up admit that they work from 9 to 9, some days 9 to AM next day.

Their definition of work life balance is that if you work late until 11pm or am, you can come in late the next day.

I know the asian culture is bad, but why are these people enabling their companies to just straight up abuse them. The best part is that they are like proud of not having a life outside of work.

Damn Malaysia work culture is straight up mess up.

Anyone had any idea where to sell this? Grandpa brought it back from congo when he serve as a Soldier back then for the peacekeeping mission. Both weigh around 18~19 Kg. It's a pair.

1) When is the best time to buy the laptop? Discounted price etc
2) Which model should I get? I was thinking the 5499 vs the 7999
3) Do I need to get the apple care warranty on the spot or can I delay it?\

Thinking of changing career

I always been interested in Ethical Hacking but I never really got the chance to venture into it.

When I was in college there I had very little exposure to Ethical Hacking.

I been working 6 years now as a Software Engineer. Slowly build up to become a Senior Dev and so did my salary.

So I am thinking of studying on my own and hopefully somehow become good enough to get an OSCP certification.

However that being said, I also wonder

1) If I do pass it and go to another job, do I have to get a salary cut? My salary quite high for my age, 5 digit ish. ( I do mostly aws tech stack)

2) Will it be better for me to start into ethical hacking if I move overseas? ( I don't see myself to be in Malaysia for the next 2~3 years)

I wonder if anyone can let me know.

Company want to change me into a vendor

Hi All,

I am currently working part time for a company.

The company I worked for decide that they want to change the process from part time to becoming a vendor.

They say I have to give them an invoice.

May I know what the advantage and disadvantage of this process?

Currently they are paying me per day when they need me to.

I got no company, so can I issue an invoice?

Update:

So I called up my friend who in the company. He told me that they say the price of RM 500 per day is too expensive and it's not fair to them, so they want to charge me per hour instead. Decided to called off the entire thing. Reason being was prior to this verbally we discussed that the payment was agree Rm 500 per day be in small issue or big issue. I even asked if the job only require 10 minutes do I still get the RM 500. At that point they say yes.

Now they server is down already and they require my help. Unfortunately refusing to pay me the agreed upon amount that we discussed prior to me leaving the company. So I decided that I will not continue on.

My gf told me she needs to go for monthly weekend trip with her mum cause her Aunt is sick (Cancer) . We spend most of our day together, well to be honest we are living together since we travel to work and back from work. Thing is since I spend most of my weekend with her, when she not around, I just feel like a bit empty. I can't follow her back since her grandma and grandpa does not accept my race (I'm Indian she Chinese), so it's a bit hard. Just asking around for advice.

Also, is it wrong to feel a bit down because she going for 3 days every month? I know it's just a short trip, but I feel like I look forward every weekend because I get to spend time with her, but now I got nothing to look forward for.

My gf told me today two events had happen in her company:

Event 1: Her manager got retrenched

Event 2: Every of the company staff now have to take 3 days unpaid leave every month until June

Should she start looking for a new job? It's not easy as her job is quite niche.

Apparently the company not doing well due to the corona virus epidemic.
