raise tariff very quick,

We’ll have to see what the prices will be beyond that (June 30),” he told reporters after the company’s AGM yesterday.

The tariff adjustment is based on an Imbalance Cost Pass Through (ICPT) mechanism, which allows the Government to increase or reduce electricity rates based on the underlying prices of coal, gas and crude oil.

The ICPT review is done every six months and the next one is scheduled for June next year.

The price of coal has been on a downtrend since the first quarter of this year, while crude has come down significantly since July this year. TNB gets the bulk of its gas supply from Petroliam Nasional Bhd at a fixed price.

TNB’s generation mix is heavily skewed towards gas plants that make up 58% of its generation capacity, while coal-fired plants comprise 33%.

Fazlur, also vice-president of group finance, said that TNB was as yet still unable to determine the net impact of the coal price versus the ringgit movement on the company.

He said while lower coal prices were a boon, the weaker ringgit against the US dollar would work against it, as coal was purchased in US dollars.

He added that sliding crude oil prices sometimes had an indirect impact on other commodities as well.

Fazlur also noted that around 12% of TNB’s borrowings were in US dollars and that there would be translation losses if the ringgit depreciated against the US dollar.

“However, it is just on the book and is unrealised. We will be looking at how to mitigate the exposure,” he said.

He said that some new coal-fired power plants would be coming up next year, which would increase its coal usage.

TNB chief executive officer/president Datuk Seri Azman Mohd said that he did not think current coal prices would be changing very rapidly. He added that there was no reason to assume that the coal price would go up, as China was still depressed.

“We believe the coal price will remain or that it won’t go drastically high. I think our issue with the coal price is just the exchange rate because we are buying in US dollars,” he said.

As for plans to tap energy from Sarawak, he said that TNB had embarked on some discussions but stressed that there was nothing definite about it.

He said that it was currently at the working group discussion stage to ensure that such a plan was feasible, as well as to identify any impediments. “Additionally, any decision made will be after the year 2020.”

Sarawak has the capacity to generate up to 20,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity mainly from hydroelectric dams. There is a series of hydroelectric and coal-fired plants being planned in the state to power the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) initiative. Score is to attract companies that are heavy users of electricity and the 20,000MW planned is more than enough for the state.

Previously, there were plans to instal an undersea cable between Sarawak and the peninsula to transmit the excess electricity, but the project, planned since the early 1990s, has not taken off the ground yet due to cost constraints.

On renewable energy (RE), Azman said that RE currently comprised less than 1% of its power generation mix.

He noted the Government’s aspiration to increase the RE contribution to overall generation to 5% by 2020, adding that this was a very challenging effort, as the cost of RE was still more expensive than using fossil fuel.

Currently, he said TNB was also embarking on several renewable projects within Malaysia, including the Jengka biomass project with Felda as well as two joint-ventures with Sime Darby Bhd. “We are looking forward to working together with other developers on RE projects. On the international side, we have an investment agreement project with KLS Energy in Sri Lanka,” Azman said.

TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie said it would increase its investment in alternative sources of energy such as RE, wind and solar to ameliorate the effects of fossil fuel shortage in the future.

sos TNB bodo

That is already more than are deployed Europewide, according to analysts at HSBC and CCS Insight. China Mobile’s network covers as many as 500m people in the important cities on the country’s east coast.

China Telecom and China Unicom are also building smaller 4G networks. Up to 1m 4G masts could be built in China by the end of 2014, according to equipment makers.

At last month’s annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, executives from European mobile operators feared that the combination of regulatory constraints and sluggish economic growth would curtail construction of 4G networks in the continent.
Also in Barcelona this week, Wei Zaisheng, finance director for ZTE, the Chinese state-owned equipment maker, said there could be as many as 1m 4G base stations in China by the year’s end, from close to 300,000 today, as companies “speeded up construction”.

China represented about 60 per cent of the market for new 4G masts, he said. “China is leading 4G compared to Europe.”
Three industry executives said they were expecting a second tender from China High quality global journalism requires investment. Equipment-maker executives forecast that China Telecom would order up to 250,000 masts this year.
Neelie Kroes, Europe’s digital commissioner, has also emphasised the need to accelerate 4G rollout, and has recently shifted the focus to developing the next stage of mobile networks with so-called “5G” technology.

Beijing has made telecoms a main national industry. Only a third of Chinese households have broadband internet connections, according to data from the brokerage CLSA, intensifying the urgency to rollout high-speed mobile services.

The US, South Korea and Japan lead the world in 4G deployment and usage with almost ubiquitous coverage, which is seen to have economic benefits as people work and access media swiftly while on the move.

Chinese groups are also leading the development of networks based on a lesser used variant of 4G technology called TD LTE, which analysts say will give China the chance to claim an advantage in promoting a standard that had not been used much in the West, where FDD is the dominant 4G standard.
TD LTE technology is gaining momentum outside China, with the recent decision by Sprint to use the technology in its 4G network in the US.

kicap

china boleh!!
Sony Xperia Z2 will only be the flagship

Speaking to Japanese K-Tai.Impress Sony Mobile's Creative Director, Director of Product Planning and UX General Manager, Yoshiro Kurozumi, addresses the early rise to the throne by the Xperia Z2 and why he thinks a half a year upgrade cycle is a better fit for this industry.

According to him, in order to maintain the flagship status of the product, you must upgrade it faster to keep it competitive. He went on to confirm that the Xperia Z2 will likely be Sony's flagship for only the first half of 2014.

He also commented about design, saying Sony doesn't want to rely on a single design, which could mean the company will perhaps move away from its OmniBalance design language, which has dominated the Xperia line so far (including Z, Z1 and Z2, compact and ultra included).

And while we can extrapolate from Mr. Kurozumi's words that Sony will be releasing its next flagship some time in Q3 or Q4 of 2014 and that it may feature a new design, we truly hope Sony will at least continue to update its Z and Z1 flagships for the sake of those users, who have purchased these devices for a handful amount of money (all of which are still waiting to receive Android 4.4 KitKat).

kicap - kicap

wait new flagship then buy

Man jumps to his death

A Chinese man reportedly hated shopping so much that he jumped to his death from the 7th floor of a mall after five hours of shopping with his girlfriend.

WARNING: graphic photos

A man died after jumping off the seventh floor of a shopping mall in the city of Xuzhou in Jiangsu, China, on December 7th. The 38-year old man had been shopping with his girlfriend. After five hours, he wanted to go home but his girlfriend wanted to continue shopping. A heated argument soon took place as later confirmed by security videos.

According to nearby shoppers, the following dialog took place:

He said, "You have enough shoes to wear for the rest of your lifetime. Why do you want to go to another shoe store?"

She said, "You penny-pincher! You've ruined the Christmas spirit!"

He got very angry, threw down all the many shopping bags he was carrying, turned around, and jumped over the rail and fell all the way from the seventh floor of the huge shopping mall. People on the first floor heard a thump and found him bleeding, lying near the Christmas decorations. He was dead.

At the time of the report, police were still confirming his ID in order to contact his family.

The holiday season can be one of the most stressful times.
HTC boleh yo~

We all know the “indestructible” Nokia meme, but it looks like it’s time to start a new one. A petrol station clerk was shot at by a robber yesterday in Florida, and escaped with his life after the bullet was stopped dead in its track by the clerk’s HTC EVO 3D smartphone in his front pocket.
The clerk had been working his shift at the petrol station with another employee when the robber entered the premises demanding them to open the safe. Unfortunately, both of them did not have access to the safe, and in frustration shot at the clerk as he made his exit. The shot hit the clerk’s chest, where the bullet was stopped by the HTC smartphone’s 12mm thick chassis. According to the police, the clerk “didn’t even realise he’d been shot”, and only realised it when he took out his phone.

In addition to escaping with his life, HTC – who followed up on the news report – managed to contact the clerk to pass him a “Glad You’re OK” care package, which consisted of a brand new HTC One as well as other accessories for his new device.

sos putih saya

Tiny spaces are being rented out as apartments in South Korea, with some that are so cramp that tenants have to sleep beside the toilet.

According to Kotaku, the shoebox 'apartments' were originally designed as rooms for students who needed a place to study at.

Now, they are being rented out as actual apartments due to the lack of affordable housing in big Korean cities.

Some of the tenants have fallen on hard times, and are staying at these 'goshitel' apartments for the time being.

The apartments have been described as prison cells due to their size.

Some goshitel units have kitchenettes squeezed into the small space, while some are so incredibly small that the toilets are right beside the bed.

sos

Home prices could dip 20% by end-2015

Home prices could fall by as much as 20 per cent by the end of 2015 in the wake of oversupply, tougher loan rules and rising interest rates, say analysts.

One warning comes from a Barclays report which noted that risks from a number of directions are putting pressure on residential values and hitting demand at new launches. "We expect developer sales to fall by 30 per cent in 2013, as the latest sets of measures bite," it said.

In a separate report, CIMB said that a large supply of new homes set to hit the market could cause prices to correct by 10 to 15 per cent by 2015.

Affordability has become more of an issue since new loan curbs were introduced in June. These cap a borrower's total monthly debt payments at no more than 60 per cent of his gross monthly income.

sos kicap pedas

er... guys, i din mean to troll, but its singkapork news...

Do Not Call

Unwanted phone calls from telemarketers will soon be a thing of the past. From Jan 2 next year, a national Do-Not-Call registry will be launched for people to list their numbers.

Telemarketers must check against it before making a sales pitch on the phone, through fax. SMS or MMS.

To register for no voice call, text messages and fax messages, consumers may SMS "DNC" to 78772. Consumers may also send an SMS to 78773 if they choose to block calls only. They can also call 1800-248-0772 to register to block calls, text messages and fax messages. Another way to list one's number on the registry is to visit the www.dnc.gov.sg website. Consumers may register for the registry from Dec 2 to ease the rush in January next year.

Marketing messages sent via instant messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, to the numbers on the registry will be prohibited too. Those who defy the rule risk a maximum $10,000 fine, should the consumer complain to a new watchdog body called the Personal Data Protection Commission.

SOS

When merehsia have?? when? when? when?
