Melbourne Bourke Street incident: one dead, two injured after stabbing:
•One person has been killed and two passers-by injured after a man went on the rampage on Bourke Street in Melbourne’s city centre
•Witnesses say a man drove a car outside the Target centre about 4.20pm. As the vehicle went up in flames, he attempted to stab people and fought with police and bystanders
•Police shot the man in the stomach after he was seen lunging at them with a knife
•People could be seen trying to help the police, using a shopping trolley and a chair to fend the man off
•A body could be seen on the pavement outside one store. Emergency services said two others were also injured, but their condition is not yet known
•The suspected attacker was arrested at the scene and is under police guard in hospital. Police say they are not looking for anyone else at this stage
•Police say they are keeping “an open mind” about the attack and there are no known links to terrorism
•People have been urged to stay away from Bourke St, Swanston St and the Melbourne CBD

Useful info if you're deciding between Myvi/Iriz

So... If you're like me right now, comparing between the two and deciding which to go for.

I've made a handy little table that you can compare between the maintenance cost of these two cars over a 5 year period or 100,000km.
So please stop being deceived that the Myvi is a cheap car to maintain, or at least the rumours and hearsay going that "p1 expensive to maintain", "get p2 cheap2 maintenance" or "proton noob still use timing belt and CVT, prepare to burn a hole in your pocket ! ! !"

Don't take this the wrong way of me bashing myvi or something. I'm just doing my due diligence for my own sake, so i take everything into account, including maintenance costs. The point of this thread is not to say one is better than the other.

I initially posted it in the Myvi thread but the people there didn't like it because i guess i was bursting their bubble when they think their myvi is the best in everything.

Some things to take note that are not reflected on the price differences in the table:
1) comparing between the 4AT vs CVT models only.

2) timing belt kit that needs to be changed for the Iriz at 110k km service, the cost of it is a one time RM 334.68 for every 110k km.

3) myvi uses wet battery, which is twice the cost (going around RM 400+) and twice as fast needs changing too (especially if you use the auto-engine start stop function a lot) << review from bezza owners they say around 30k+ km or 1 year+ have to change battery dy iinm. While the iriz uses maintenance free battery less than RM 200.

4) this is a fun fact, the bezza maintenance costs the same as the myvi. Making a 1.3 bezza's maintenance even costlier than a 1.6 CVT iriz.

Some reason why the myvi's maintenance is costlier :
- brake fluid is changed at every 20k km on the myvi, while it is every 40k km on the iriz.
- air filter on the myvi costs RM 60, while on the iriz it is only RM 16. both are changed every 20k km.
- spark plugs on the Myvi costs Rm 220 and changed every 50k km, while it is RM 51 on the iriz and changed every 30k km.
To put it into perspective, at 120k km, the myvi would have changed spark plugs twice at the cost of RM 440, while the iriz would have changed spark plugs four times at the cost of RM 204, less than half the cost.

In my personal opinion, for all the talk about fuel savings yada yada. You burn back the money you saved on fuel on the maintenance of the Myvi.
So don't let fuel savings factor blind you when choosing between the two. Just take note when making your decision between the two that at the end of the day, the Myvi is a more fuel efficient car that will save you some money at the gas station. But at the same time, it is a costlier car to maintain in the long run as well. What you need to ask yourself is whether the money you saved on fuel is or can be justified by a more expensive car maintenance.

and here's a food for thought, the Iriz uses timing belt and CVT transmission, the so called things that people say makes Iriz car maintenance expensive. If Proton were to change and use timing chain and a dinosaur 4AT box, the maintenance cost will be driven even lower. Making the maintenance cost differences vs the myvi even more significant.

Serdang deputy police chief Superintendent Lee Wai Leong said Yee showed signs of a head injury, presumably from the fall.

The couple was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

[HELP] PC boots POST but powers off before windows

Hey guys need your help, first of all my rig specs are:

Rig: Cooler Master Casing @ CM GX650W PSU
Motherboard: Asus P8P67
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2x2GB DDR3 (4GB)
GPU: SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon HD 6950 (2GB) DDR5
HardDisk: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue 32MB Cache/7200RPM
OS: Windows 7
Year: March 2011

Situation:
1) My problem is my PC unable to boot up to windows, it is able to boot past POST/BIOS, but before it could load windows it will power off like someone pulled the plug/main switch.

2) Then when I tried to turn it back on again, it would not turn itself up, need to wait a couple of minutes.

3) With regards to 2, my motherboard has a yellow/green LED light that would light up when the PSU is switched on, i think its the 5V thingy, forgot the correct name. So when I turn on the PSU switch, motherboard LED would be lit, then when I power it on and it shuts itself down, the LED light goes off as well.

Then when I tried to power it on again, the LED would not be lit up this time. I have to off the PSU and wait a couple of minutes before turning the PSU back on again then only the motherboard LED would light up and can power the pc on.

4) Tried doing some troubleshooting and I noticed that if I turn the PSU on but dont turn on the pc, the motherboard LED light would be on and will go off after some time. Then immediately after it goes off, I try to flip the PSU off/on again to start the pc up, it wont start also (same case like 3.). Have to turn off PSU, wait couple mins then turn back PSU on then only mobo led light comes back up.

Im suspecting its a PSU problem, but not sure if its PSU, CPU or Mobo problem...

What I tried to do:
1) I did the PSU self-test, unhook 24 pin connector, used metal pin to connect green to black wire and turn on PSU, the PSU fan would spin. Doesnt stop unless I turn off the PSU.

^ since that works, does it rule out PSU problem? Or it could still be a PSU problem?

2) Reseat the rams / used another hard disk, still power off itself.

3) tried to power it on and stay in BIOS menu only, doesnt stay alive long enough for me to change any bios settings.

4) when it loads past POST, there would be a single beep. Indicating that it passed the test right?

So what do you think could be the problem here? Would appreciate all the help/replies. Thanks in advance!

PETALING JAYA: Young, smart and with boyish good looks, Nibras Islam came from a wealthy family and had a penchant for Bollywood.

He also enjoyed a wide following of friends at a private university here where he studied commerce after arriving from Dhaka in 2012.

No one could have guessed that the Bangladeshi, in his early 20s, would be brainwashed into the blood-thirsty terrorist who helped attack the Dhaka cafe where 20 hostages were brutally killed on Saturday .

Although the authorities have not officially released the names of the seven attackers, Bangladeshi newspapers The Daily Star and Dhaka Tribune confirmed that he was one of the assailants.

Nibras was initially identified by social media users.

Six of the seven attackers were shot dead and a photo, believed to be of Nibras’ bloodied body on the ground, was widely circulated.

Also, terrorist groups released mugshots of the attackers, which included that of Nibras.

“It’s definitely him,” said a fellow Bangladeshi who knew the youth, on social media.

He said he never expected Nibras to end up like this because he did not seem to be interested in politics, was not outwardly religious and was “not the violent type”.

Nibras is believed to have studied in an English-medium school in Dhaka and later enrolled at an expensive private university in Bangladesh before coming to study in Malaysia.

Checks showed that his tweets since 2014 had an emotional slant to them, indicating relationship complications.

On his Facebook page, which was taken down yesterday, Nibras wrote about the war in the Middle East and said that “there must be peace there” and that life was important.

There was also a picture, of the lanky youth playing futsal, that was his Facebook cover image.

It was reported that the assailants were believed to have gone missing months before the attack and international reports stated that Nibras was uncontactable since January.

A Bangladeshi lecturer, who has been in Malaysia for more than two decades but never knew Nibras, said the Bangladeshi community here strongly denounced the violence.

“We condemn the attacks and are in shock,” he said, adding that Bangladeshis studying here have a positive image of Malaysia and its education system.
The lecturer hoped that there would not be any repercussions against these students.

Bangladesh police released images of the assailants’ bodies and five short names of the attackers – Akash, Bikash, Don, Badhon and Ripon – but did not give much details beyond that. Also, it is likely those names may not be accurate.

SITE intelligence group, a terrorist tracker organisation, has put out five images allegedly of the attackers, standing in front of what resembles the Islamic State (IS) flag.

There is no official verification yet by Bangladesh police linking those images to the attackers.

According to reports, Bangladesh police tried to arrest five of the attackers previously but were unsuccessful.

IS has claimed responsibility for the Dhaka attack.

Two days ago (Jun 28) local website All Singapore Stuff published an article “Roast Pork Smell From Temple Dinner Too Unbearable For Fasting HDB Resident” which had over 600 shares on Facebook.

The article reported on a series of Facebook posts by an individual who took issue with the roasting of pork right under his window for a large-scale dinner event:

"Called up NEA direct & being told that they will refer & report it to the town council as the event is approved by them...so please Ang Mo Kio Town Council, i wonder what ur actions will be.

MUIS, is this ok for us....?? So, battling the smell & nausea, for me assisting the investigations, if any, i went down to take pics for their perusal.

I am not the type of person to go around complaining but roasting pork in the open & directly under my nose (my unit i mean), i think it is disrespecting for us Fasting in this holy month of ours. Now, the stench is stuck in my home affecting me if not others."

Such words would surely result in negative responses which carry tones of race and religion. And indeed there were many.
But testament to our racial and religious harmony, comments calling for tolerance and understanding received the most Likes, while those that were negative hardly received any:

PETALING JAYA: Fifteen University of Bath graduates have accused University Technology Mara of intellectual property theft after discovering that their MBA thesis papers had been uploaded to its Institutional Repository (UiTM IR).

The fifteen students, from four groups of graduates of the 1994 Bath Executive Masters of Business Administration (MBA)-Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) programme, claimed that their thesis papers had been used without their consent.

Sam Than, who first made the discovery, said he found a link to the repository while searching for information on Google.

The 58-year-old consultant, who completed his group thesis paper for his MBA 22 years ago, found that it was uploaded to UITM's IR.

"What was more puzzling was that our thesis had the UiTM logo and copyright mark on their paper.

"In the preview, you can see the UiTM logo clearly placed on the front of the project page, giving the impression that we had somehow collaborated on the thesis with UiTM or under its auspices," he said on Friday.

Than claimed that three other groups from his programme had found their Bath MBA thesis papers in the repository.

"I checked with my classmates and a past administrator of MIM if they had given permission to UiTM to upload their thesis papers and claim copyright.

"Subsequently, I e-mailed UiTM demanding why it was uploaded to its repository and they replied informing me that the thesis had now been taken down," he said.

In an e-mail reply, MIM told The Star that it was not aware of the matter and it would not have given UiTM permission to put up its papers in the repository.

"In the case of a thesis, the intellectual property rights lie with the student and the conferring institution - in this case, the University of Bath," MIM said.

According to UiTM IR's website, it is stated that it is a "centre of digital collections, and acts as an open-access repository that collects, preserves and disseminates scholarly output by university members at UiTM (journal articles, book chapters, books, conference papers, theses, working papers, technical reports, data and other types of research publications as well as unpublished manuscripts and papers)".

A check by the The Star later in the day found that Than's group paper had been taken down from the UiTM repository, but those from the other three groups were still up.

Meanwhile, UiTM IR told The Star via e-mail that it was currently investigating the matter.

It is learnt that the driver of the pick-up truck was on the way to Bangsar with his two children at the time of the accident. Chong, who was on her way to meet a customer, died at the scene. There were no other reported fatalities or injuries.
Kuala Lumpur staff officer for traffic investigation and regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam said that victim suffered severe cranial damage and was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
