Server With Customization Option For Individual

Dear everyone, as IT Security practitioner, I'm trying to build up server workstation in my room. Therefore, I've allocate 10K for my first server for this purposes. I'll acquire other devices such as switch, router, and etc in soon too for my networking certifications.

Objective: To build my own isolated internet for research purposes and to retain and enhance my knowledge on many things ...

My problem is I didn't know where to start .... I've browsed through Dell and HP website but based on the information, I need to contact their partner/reseller. However, my big issue is the reseller website is totally outdated or cannot be reached. The pricing and spec are also outdated. And this is my first 10K which I took a loan for this purposes .. so, I need the best and affordable solution ... not too much markup issue

Job Offer Conflicts

Dear guys, today I've received a call that I was selected to work with one of the ABC company as a service desk (helpdesk). The basic salary is almost 3K.

Due to the processes taking so long where it's already passed two month, I've been attending and applying other jobs. Recently last Friday, I've received an invitation for the interview from TNB for Program Eksekutif Pelatih (PEP) TNB which I'll need to attend on the end of this month.

I've been headhunted for the service desk job. In fact, I didn't answer back the HR call from Intel (2 weeks after Intel interview in Penang) previously after attending the ABC interview as I prefer to work in Selangor. Not only Intel, I've been rejected a lot of job interviews and offers because I'm expecting the ABC company will call me back in short time. But only till today .. they call me back after going a lot of background checking

Now, I need to answer the job offer from the ABC company. If rejected, I'm afraid I'll failed the TNB interview since there would 2 stages. If accepted, I've lose the chances to work in the one of the biggest GLC company in our country, inclusive of stable job.

Any TNB or former PEP can tell me what is the chances to be accepted into the program? or anyone could advice me a little bit. I didn't know what is the job scope for the PEP but I believed it will be an interesting job and may given me the opportunity to do a part time in securing a master on weekends.

Master or Professional Certifications?

Dear guys, while waiting for my job applications to be processes by HR (or you can still call I'm a jobless and unemployed), my brain keep telling me to acquires more certifications and knowledge to fill up my free time on weekends. My future job does not involved working on weekends and no traveling needed.

In academic, I already have a Bachelor of Computer Science and Master of Management majoring in IT. In professional certifications, I already have various of Microsoft Certifications, CEH, CHFI, CWTS and if no obstacle, in two weeks maybe will write CCNA. Thinking to upgrade or update in the future. But in the same time, I'm attracted to do another master for self satisfaction and for future PhD application (after 5 years if I got a job).

My interest is on computer security, networking, and IT management. My budget for this programs is only RM 20K - RM 25K for 3 years which the funds is generated from my personal savings on stock market.

What in my mind now is to apply as a part-timer:

Master (only 1 as it is costly)

1) Master of Computer Security
2) Master of Knowledge Management
3) Master of Master Protective Security Management

Total - 20 - 25K

Another options is to take :

Professional certifications courses and examination listed below (all):

1) ITIL Foundation 2011 - 4K
2) ISC Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - 6K (As I don't have any security experiences, it will be at associate level even I passed the exam)
3) ISO 27001 Lead Auditor - 5K
4) Cisco CCNP - 5K (already completed the courses, only need to do self study and take the examination)

Total - 20K

I don't have any commitment, just to my parents. Already have a car and my current personal saving is around 60K. Doesn't plan to get married till mid 30's.

Which one is more valuable in your eyes? Come share your opinion liao as senior IT practitioners ...

Dear Mod/Staff and other LYN top management, I would like to know what is the possibility to get back the topic that have been deleted by the request of the person who opened the topic. I believed he's personally pm one of the mod/staff to delete his thread as I didn't find any reason why the thread should be deleted instead of closed it.

My brother have been defamed by his company due to to one of the leaked pictures distributed by one of the forumer here. As part of the investigation and to defend himself, I need to get the cache or the original thread for the print screen to confront the top management of where my brother work. Because of this forumer irresponsibility, my brother job on the stake and he'll face the consequences of what he didn't do. Not only the job, his reputation may be tarnished because of this.

My brother will make the police report against the forumer if there is enough evidence. One of it is the original topic of the irresponsible person as it contained a lot of informative and to prove the leaked pictures is originally from the person. Is it possible as i only need the print screen of each pages?

IT Professional Certification For Students

Dear guys, I'm looking for any professional certification training with a students promotions. Recently, I've been given an opportunity to take EC-Council CEH courses with a student price, but I'm quite disappointed when the other promotions which is ENSA will only be held in February 2012 .. perhaps I've already working then and my future employers will not let me take a leave ...

Okay, I'm a cheapskate but since this is opportunity to get a cheap prices, I'm going to fully utilized it before my status as a student end by Feb 2012.

Sometimes the training providers will visit your colleges or universities to promote the training (inclusive exam) with unbelievable cheap price. And perhaps they will allow an outsiders (others college with valid students cards) to join the training too. So, anyone know about the recent promotions within your colleges? Even though they will not allow outsiders, let me handle the problems, persuade them or last resort ... begging ...

I only have balance RM 2000 to funds my training inclusive examination (using PTPTN money .. ~) . And I've enough of Microsoft certification. Just, looking for a training like CCNA, CITRIX, JUNIPER, and others cert as long it not Microsoft.

So, please share if you know anything. Those who read this topic can benefited and grab the chances too ...

P/s: I've attended 3P and Job Camp .. so, no more gov subsidizes training for me

Need Some Advice From Working People

Hi guys, today I've just attended my first interview for the IT Engineer position. The job scope is to equip the schools with the internet facilities. I'll travel heavily with another colleague.

I will be given RM 2500 as a basic and other regular benefit. The contract will be 2 years.

After the interview, I'm quite demotivated when :

1) I'll not touch any server or high end switch, hub, router or whatever (eg: Cisco). How to improve my knowledge?
2) As a network engineer, I would like to be expose to the CISCO or JUNIPER facilities so I can be prepare for my next certifications to pursue CCNA and JNCIA. But without the equipment ..
2) My jobs only to use the router provided by the company.
3) Only basic configuration on the client pc such as setting up IP, DNS, and gateway for fixed IP.
4) No professional training was given and only internal training by my colleague. No funds will be given for professional training and I'll have to take leave if want to attend a short training. Additional certificates will get me nothing.

As a Microsoft MCP, MCTS, MCDST, MCPD, MCITP, Security+ and etc, CWTS and recently CEH, I feel like useless and worthless. With the > 20K thousand worth of training (all gov subsidies) previously, I feel like scamming the citizen taxes .... it feel like I've wasted a lot of time and effort to pursue this kind of certificates. Library inter-loan from all over country, begging lecturers to sign the purchase book form, use PTPTN money to fund training, skipping class to prepare for the exam, attending training that take a month even got night class, ...

I do understand I'm still a fresh post-grad but isn't its going to be a waste of my knowledge and skills when the company didn't fully utilize it. I may be a fresh postgrad with only master on hand, but I need a challenges jobs. A jobs that made me need to squeeze my brain ... have to think out of the box ... jobs that will challenges my professional credential ... something that need me to do critical thinking .. and etc ... .

Should I accept the job? I'm afraid I'll be blacklist by one of the biggest conglomerate in Malaysia if reject it... . Please advice

Certified Ethical Hacker,CHFI And ENSA

I'm one of the participants in the program and has benefited from the course. Seriously, I still can't believe my current university still not aware of this promotions despite one of their research clusters including security (practical > theory .. but they gonna be angry if you talked about it ). I'm quite shocked when 18 out of 19 (except me) came from established IPTS such as Taylor and GMI (other classes). As a graduate from IPTA and considering the knowledge that they provided, I would say CEH is a good start to venture into security business as long you are being ethical once you know the tools and techniques

. Some would say CEH is a "script-kiddies" based, but instead of having zero knowledge of hacking and talk cock every time, it is much better to be exposed with some of the basic knowledge. And hacking not only involved tools, as long you you know how to manipulate the data especially using the Google and inject SQL into it ... then you are good to go .

I'm still not sure when will the promotions will end but still I would suggest those who interested in security should enter this courses. There are other security certifications programs such as Security+, CCNA Security but the most popular certifications would be from CISSP and GIAC where it needs you to posses some experiences before entering the programs. CEH, Security+, CCNA security is the basic security certifications that we can earn as a students.

The disadvantages of this promotion programs are:

1) There's no official kit. You only get temporary ID to enter the EC-Council Academia that will expired in ~~7 days.~~ 1 year from the date of registration (thanks to KokHou)

German Deli Imbiss

Hey guys, as you know, I'm a big fan of big portion of foods. My thread on Hartz chicken has reached over 2000 views in months. So, for the last few weeks, I've tried one of the big burger named as Megaton suggested by one of the forumer here. I've been searching for Halal biggest burger since last year unfortunately, one of the biggest burger in Malaysia which in Perak is too far away for me to go. Therefore, I went to the this restaurant called German Deli Imbliss

First visit ... in 20 minutes, I've managed to finished the Megaton burger including the additional fries and large carbonated drinks. In my mind, if there's any possibility to challenge myself over another bigger burger. Yes, I would try to give a suggestion to the owner ..

When I get back, I give a feedback through their official Facebook and here what I get :

Of course I did visit for the second time for Megaton Burger, but this time with the 1 litre of root beer, yes again I've finished it within 30 minutes ... but after received the last two comments from the owner itself .. okay, I'm done with this restaurant.

As a food lovers, we are freely to give any feedback through the right channel. If it's a good, we are going to compliments them. But if its bad, we are going to give a proper feedback or suggestion. But if it's a bad customer service from the owner which think his foods flawless and any suggestion is a no no, it is really unacceptable. Even the biggest food retailer such as McD and KFC would at least received a feedback or suggestion from the customer and thanking the customer for giving a feedback.

My rate on this restaurant out of 5:

Foods : 4 star (The megaton quite good)
Location: 4.5 (Parking is easy to find)
Restaurant Service : 3.5 star (I've to take the menu myself and waiting for a long time to be served)
Customer Service: Sucks

This would be my last visit to the restaurant. The restaurant may received more customers after this negative feedback as people are curious of how big the burger would be. Of course its nothing to lose if one hardcore food lovers has blacklist the restaurant , but many soon will follow if the owner still think that customer is at the bottom chain of business priority.

Hartz Chicken

I'm one of the fan boys for Hartz Chicken. The first time I know about Hartz Chicken during 2003 in Sunway Pyramid. After 6 years, I bump into the restaurant again and since then, I have collected a lot of cholesterol and fat whenever I visit them.

Usually, I manage to eat 6-7 chicken, a few pieces of chicken heart, and sometimes I go for roast chicken ... but only 1-2 pieces. I only eat the regular chicken, the spicy ... I gonna to get stomach ache before I reach my car in car park. So, it made me go crazy whenever I go for spicy chicken.

My record is 11 chicken during 2010. The method is to drink pure water and eat chicken time by time .. of course, I look greedy but in my mind, I'm gonna to eat what I paid.

So, how about you? Any method how to eat more chicken without feeling full?

My father want to complaint to OnKing Chain Store via e-mail (contact@onking.com.my) but the e-mail was returned back. I believe their e-mail server is already full or their domain failed.

By the way, if by this time the e-mail server is working, I hope I can get any of their top management staff. My previous experience try to dealing with big company such All-IT hypermarket led me to believe the e-mail will be useless if sent via the customer service.

Can anyone share any of OnKing top management e-mail especially the head of the customer service department.

Perhaps can pm me the e-mail link due the privacy. I need only one e-mail so at least I can proof the e-mail has reached to the right person before I bring this matter to another level (KPDNK, FOMCA and other interested party)
