Not really sure where to post this, but does anyone know of any woodworking workshops in KL/Selangor area where hobbyists can go and rent their facilities by the hour? Thinking of doing some small pieces for fun and need access to a workshop.

Anyone out there happen to know where I might be able to get my hands on some shellac flakes? Trying to embark on my own DIY guitar project and need some flakes to do a French polish, but having trouble locating a store that sells this stuff as most of them only carry the pre-mixed stuff.

Wood, Tone & Construction

I've always been of the opinion that the choice of wood used in instrument construction is only important for instruments that depend on the natural vibrations of the wood (i.e. pianos, violins, classical & acoustic guitars). Is this assumption true also for the electric & bass guitars? If so, how do the main types of wood (namely mahogany, alder & maple) differ in defining the sound of the guitar?

Teaching Music

Anyone ever taught music before? Just thought of starting this thread to pick up pointers on how best to initiate a newcomer to music.

Well to start off, I remembered my first experience was with a student who had no concept of music whatsoever. Try as I might to get him to get into note reading, understanding the concept of keeping to a constant beat before moving onto handling the instrument (in this case, a classical guitar), my efforts just didn't work.

When handling newcomers, what is your usual approach? How do you explain key concepts etc and any exercises to recommend which can hold their interest while at the same time add to their learning experience?

Pedal Mods & Upgrades

Anyone here knows how to go about modifying pedals? Would like to learn and see what kind of sounds I can cough up with after souping up my Boss DS-1 pedal.

Floyd-Rose Bridge Replacements

After almost a year of constant use, my Floyd Rose bridge is on the verge of being totally unusable, mainly because the steel blocks that hold the strings in place have rusted to the point they can't budge everytime I try to change strings.
Then again, can't blame the thing as I suffer from a really bad case of sweaty palms.

Any recommendations on a good bridge I can fit onto my MH-50? My main concerns are whether the replacement can fit the bridge cavity (i.e. whether the different makes of bridges like Edge-Pro, Floyd-Rose Original etc etc have different dimensions that may not fit into my guitar). Also, if possible, anyone knows of any stainless steel models or someting that's more resistant to rust?
