Looking for a way to ship my guitar to the states

I am coming back to Malaysia for my holidays. While i am back here, i was thinking of taking my guitar along with me back to the states. However, i am not too sure of which way to go about it. Do i box it and ship or do i get a hard case and carry on aboard the plane? If you could share your experiences with me, that would be great <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://static.lowyat.net/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> i dont mind paying a shop to pack it properly and do the shipping for me
