Online coin sale ends on sour note after student is scammed of RM5,000

PETALING JAYA: A student was duped out of more than RM5,000 after falling prey to a scammer who feigned interest in buying old coins from her.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police received a report on the incident from an 18-year-old student.

"She was contacted by a foreign man who asked if she had any old coins or currency.

"The suspect offered her RM80,000 for eight coins," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 9).

He said the victim only dealt with the suspect, who used a foreign telephone number, via WhatsApp.

"After she showed him what coins she had, she passed the man an account number to transfer the money.

"The suspect claimed that he had transferred the money, but it was being held and urged the victim to transfer an RM800 transaction fee," ACP Nik Ezanee said, adding that the victim then claimed she did not have the cash and only transferred RM100 to an account, believed to be a mule account, which the man provided.

He said the suspect then continuously pestered her to transfer more cash in order to release the RM80,000.

"The victim made seven transactions amounting to RM5,250 before realising she had been duped because the suspect kept demanding more money and never asked the victim to send him the coins," he said.

I placed an order with grab last week. It arrived, but half of the items were missing. I tried to call the driver but the phone number had a problem. I called the shop directly and they said the driver forgot 1 bag. They asked me to order another item and said they would put cash in the bag to compensate.

The new item arrived, but the shop only paid back the item. They did not pay back the delivery fee or the small order fee. I then contacted grab through email and they basically said, sorry but our policy is that we won’t do anything about it.

I honestly do not understand why they could not refund the delivery fee and small order fee, but I guess it is because they just don’t care. I have since then switched 90% of my orders to foodpanda, one of my favorite shops unfortunately is only on grab. I estimate grab will lose about RM500 in delivery fees alone next year because they did not want to refund RM7.

One day my small boy did not want to drink at all. I brought him to the local doctor who said I should observe what happened when he needed to urinate.
If he had problems urinating I should bring him to the hospital immediately. Around lunch I finally got him to drink something and about half an hour
later he needed to go to the toilet. It was a bit of a traumatizing experience for him as he screamed and jumped around while urinating.

After that I immediately brought him to the hospital emergency room. After examination it was decided to do a circumcision the next morning.
I was informed the same afternoon that Great Eastern did not want to pay. We had no choice but to proceed of course so had the procedure the next morning.
Afterwards, the surgeon said it was a nasty infection.

The consulting doctor mentioned that Great Eastern usually never paid for circumcision, and that I might have more luck with other insurers. It is written in the policy that circumcisions are excluded. I can understand that circumcisions due to cosmetic or other reasons would be denied coverage as they are so common.

Anyway, I tried to claim (local doctor receipt, personal letter, specialist letter and surgeon's form) but was denied.
Great Eastern simply pointed out the exclusion in the policy.
So I sent another letter and will see what happens.

In the mean time I wonder if there are other such things that the insurance company won't pay for because normally it is a procedure that is often performed.
And then even in a situation where the procedure has to be performed due to an emergency they still will not pay.

Or are there other insurance companies which handle these situations better?

Update: My appeal was approved.
