Shell Citibank HP notebook Promotion

As a shell/Citibank Visa card menber, I got an offer to buy a HP Compaq Presario Note book with the following specs at RM799 + RM150 (delivery):

Intel Celeron
512MB memory
80GB HDD
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
15.4" WXGA TFT
FREE DOS

I faxed the oder form to HP and few days later a HP sales staff called me and told me that the above mention notebook is pre-set for Vista and if i were to to install XP to this notebook, I may have difficulty to find the drivers to make this notebook run on XP. The sales staff recommended me to buy a core dual notebook pre-installed with Vista basic at RM1799.

My question is, is there such thing as newer HP notebook pre-configured for Vista OS needs special drivers for XP OS to run smoothly ? If i insist to install XP OS, will the notebook run as usual ??
