Chinese Customs And Culture For House Moving

1) How do you find the auspicious date & time to move in a new house? If I just based on the chinese calendar (the one that you have to tear 1 page every day) indicating good day for house moving, is it okay? But how about the time?

2) Me and my partner will be staying in the house after our wedding. Do both of us have to be present for the customs & rituals? Because I am working and not sure if I need to take leave.

3) After all the rituals & customs, can we move-in the furniture few days later? Or furniture must be moved-in before the auspicious day.

4) Must we have to stay for the night it the house on the auspicious day?

0% Interest Installment Plan

I am moving into my new house soon and I will be spending around RM30K for renovation & furniture.

Due to lack of cashflow, I am considering 0% Interest Installment Plan. Noted that selling price for 0% Interest Installment Plan products will be slightly higher. But, my objective is to be able to pay in installment for 6 or 12 months because I do not have so much money on-hand to buy in cash. But my questions are:

Let's say the shop offered 0% interest Installment for Maybank & HSBC Credit Card only. I bought RM12K,

1) If I use Maybank Credit Card, do I only pay RM1K for 12mths?
Or they will charge 7% service charge/ fee, then I have to pay RM1070 monthly (I/O RM1000)

2) If I use CIMB Credit Card, I need to call bank asking for installment and there is a
one time 5% for 12months installments. So, I have to pay RM1050 monthly.

Is the above statements true?

I had bought 8 years old apartment and currently it was rented out to a couple
I will get the keys by this week and get some contractor to view site before starting some minor renovation.

My question are:
1) What are the rituals that I have to do?
2) When to do? (Before renovation OR Before actual move in?)
3) I would like to put "kuan yin" in the house also. Is it better to buy from temple? And is it need to "hoi kong" by priest ?

So I hope to settle it fast as it might take 4-6months for the whole process.
I asked my lawyer whether can we signed the SPA first. Then the documentation can wait for the owner.
However, the lawyer said unable to proceed because insufficient documents.
Is it true??? Must wait for the owner to provide all documents?

Cannot Take Offer Letter Home ?

I had applied for few house loan from few banks as I would like to compare which offers suit me better.

However, the first bank that approves does not allowed me to take the offer letter home to study & analyse the details of the offer letter. The bank officer insist that I read & sign the letter at the branch. Since I am waiting for another banks offer, I left and said I'll need time to consider before making decision. So, he kept the offer letter.

Can the bank officer do that? I thought I can bring the offer letter home and read line by line since I am a first time buyer.

Argument on Ping Kam

I am getting married soon after 8 years of dating. However, parents from both family can't agree on certain things.

My parents & relatives informed the "ping kam" should be abt RM6K and requested for a piggy. They informed that that is the rate in KL. My parents told me because we're not rich, thus the money (instead of forking out our own money) served as financial aid to help them purchase essential items required for the wedding celebrations such as gold. It also will show what is my value & whether my future husband family is stingy or not. Actually, what are the things that bride's family have to buy for wedding?

However, my future in-law said my parents request is too high and they prefer to pay RM888/RM1888/RM2888 (Just a sign of good luck (hou yi tou). Reasons given is they are not buying a daughter-in-law & they want everything to be simple. They thought we want “face” and reputation is the reason behind it. They prefer give money to us (after wedding i guess) rather than wasting it to buy those wedding things. They are not rich but not poor either. My future husband is on his family side and persuading me to accept his parents proposal.

I am torn in between and we quarrel about this. Should I:
- Persuade parents to accept lesser "ping kam"?
- Persuade future husband to give RM6K ?

BTW, what are the average rate of "ping kam" given nowadays? I know some of my friends were lucky because their wife's parents didn't request for ping kam.
