UNIFI Router Do i need an upgrade?

Hi all,

My current UNIFI router is RG DLINK WBR2300.

I have been thinking about upgrading it due to the following reasons:-
i.) Network coverage is weak second floor and at the back end of my house.
ii.) Subscribed VPN is slow (UNIFI 30MBPS; VPN 1- 3Mbps) (I suspect it is the router that is causing the slowdown because my VPN is fast at my friend's network)
iii.) I have a powerline set up, but powerline hickups from time to time.

Are the above reasons due to UNIFI's bundled router? Will my network improve at a noticeable level if i change my router?

I have done some research on router recommendations. In lowyat forums, i can see people are recommending ASUS RT-AC68U, but the price is expensive RM9XX~ Are there other router models that i can buy at a lower price point, at the same time fixing all of my issues above?
