PC unable to boot up OCCASIONALLY

well, been facing this prob since last year i think. since back then i didn't turn off my pc that much so didn't bother bout it. But now since finished college and staying home, always turn the pc off, but when i went to office and my dad wants to use it, he cant turn it on most of the times.

usually when facing this prob, i'll unplug, and replug the 24-pin from the mobo.and sometimes just try to unplug/replug my 6-pin cables connected at the gc, then somehow miraculously the pc went back on. so just wondering, what do you guys think, is it the problem with the PSU? that's what i suspect. planning to change my current FMAII, but need to confirm first laa.. wouldn't want to be facing this prob again after changing the psu lol. or could it be due to any faulty wiring inside the case..? anyway, my spec is as per in my sig.. hope you guys can give me some ideas on what's wrong

Laptop turns off during WINDOWS INSTALLATION

This acer aspire 3620 gives me headache already.. can't seem to find the solution yet. the problem is, it can enter windows as usuall, no problem, no matter what i do and how long, it still remains on, unless I turn it off.
However, when i want to reformat it, using XP bootdisk, then there's the blue screen thingy (not the BSOD) and when the screen shows the option to fresh install, or automated recovery, the laptop suddenly turns off.

No, it's not overheated. neither is cause of virus.
note that there's no BSOD occured

there was once I manage to reach the partition manager in the bootdisk, and half way formatting, it turns off again (thats why i said it couldnt be cause of virus, since the partitions already deleted, and recreated). tried using windows 98 SE, just trying to enter dos, still the same. Each time i tried to boot from cd, it turns off at the same part.and no, it's not cause of the windows cd. tried with other windows as well. (xp, 98, friends' XP copy)
So i think it probably could be any hardware problem. no hdd locked is enabled in bios. currently i'm at a dead end..

Any help would be very2 appreciated

ULTRA-SLOW format/windows installation

a friend of mine just bought a NEW PC yesterday, spec as below

C2D E4600 2.4GHz
Asus P5K SE EPU
Vantec ionz+ 550W PSU
Kingston Value 800 1GB X2
Seagate 160GB SATA2
Seagate 500GB SATA2
Sapphire 3650 256MB DDR3

the problem is, when formating either using VISTA ultimate or XP SP2, the time taken took soooo long..

For XP, after the loading in blue screen, where you should chose either to format, or repair, after selecting format, it will take around few minutes to got to the next part (license n agreement) and the formatting took way too long for a 50GB partition (almost half an hour to finish that one)

as for VISTA, each time after selecting any option, it'll take around few minutes too to proceed to the next option. things that's supposed to take 30 minutes, took hours to be done..

so what do you think could cause this problem? I tried changing the hardisk to other PC, and no problem.. I dun think it's the OS cd/dvd prob..

could it be caused of the RAM, mobo, proc, or GC?

thanks

PC suddenly restart and cannot detect hardisk

currently facing this problem. if i let the pc idle, without moving the mouse, in around 15 - 20 minutes, the pc will just go OFF, and at POST, it doesn't detect the hardisk.. pressing ctrl+alt+del, and it will restart, also wont detect the hardisk, UNLESS I turn off the pc, and turn it on again.. then it'll boot like normal.

I doubt it's the hardisk problem.. and in the power management option, the only option chosen was "turn off display after 20minutes" and for hardisk or sleep, i chose "NEVER". already tried selecting NEVER for turning off the display, still same thing happens.

so, what do you think? is it cause of the hardware or software? I don't think it's any overheating issue as if i did't let it Idle, it wont auto shutdown like that.. already tried the ram, proc and PSU at other pc, seems like no problem..

In safe mode, it didn't happen.. so is it anything related to the software? any virus etc that would make the hardisk undetectable?

I didn't found threads regarding this kind of problem, so pls point me to any similar thread if any..

spec -
P4 2.6 GHz socket 775
400W cap ayam PSU
52X cdrom
40gb Maxtor ATA HDD
onboard VGA

thanks
