Let's say a couple buy a 1mil or a single person buy a 500k property at age 30 years old.

Life expectancy of a Malaysian born in 1983 is 68 years according to World Bank.

So on average the house can be utilized by the person for 38 years, or 14k days.

Downpayment : 50k

Fees & Duties : 10k

Loan Principal : 450k

Interest : 190k
(Assuming 5% rate for 15 years)

Total costs: 700k

When the person dies, of course the house would still worth something and could be bequeathed to the heir, but the dead person is not utilizing the house anyway. So let's look at how much money is spent per day on the house alone, excluding maintenance, furniture, renovation etc.

For this 500k property, it is taking RM700k / 14k days = RM50 per day from the pocket.

To extrapolate from 200k to 1mil, one could say that the house is taking about RM1 for every 10k of the property price from pocket. Eg, about RM20 per day for 200k property, or about RM70 per day for 700k property etc.
