Badly need help to recover data!

Hi guys,

My JVC will not boot up for some reason, and I have about 20 GB of videos still not copied over to my computer. I badly need those data, they are recordings of various important events (no, silly, not 'home-made' videos of THAT kind!! ), and i need help to recover them. please, point me somewhere, to a data recovery service, or a DIY on how to tear the thing apart and directly transfer from the HDD...

64-bit Linux

Hello,
I'v been running 32-bit Arch Linux since like 2 years, and now i have gotten myself a new AMD64 X2 so i'm considering jumping onto 64-bit Linux. i did some searches and apparently Arch, Gentoo, Mandriva, Debian, SUSE, and Ubuntu already has working 64-bit versions.

I am very familiar with Arch linux but the 64-bit version is still a baby, a lot of things not working yet so i have to K.I.V this.

Gentoo is similar to Arch but it takes a lot of time to install unless i use Sabayon or Kororaa, both not in my prefered distro list.

I am strictly anti-RPM so Mandriva and SUSE is out of the question.

Between Debian and Ubuntu, i like Ubuntu's philisophy more, so i guess Ubuntu's what i'm gonna try next.

I know many of you guys also had been on the Ubuntu bandwagon for quite some time, so finally my questions:

1- if any of you had been using 64-bit Ubuntu, share your experience please.
2- if you happen to know any other 'hidden-gem' 64-bit distros that you would like to recommend, please share it.

I'm reinstalling my Linux box on a new disk, and read very good benchmarks on XFS.

but enough with teh internets saying this and that, i want to listen to the experiences of real world users, like you guys. Why do you prefer one FS over the other? i listed 4 of the major FS i came across in my searches, and one option for 'Other' which i think is highly unlikely.

For the time being, i am slanted towards XFS.

Hi all,
I'm converting from Mandriva to MEPIS coz i want to try out deb based distro, and i dont like Ubuntu. however i have problem with my monitor which wont display correctly.

i have the vert and horiz frequency values from manual, the dot-clock (dot rate in the manual, i believe) but i have no idea on what modeline to use.

i also would like to enable 32-bit colors and i cant seem to find it in the config tools anywhere.
