Overclocking a GPU

Hello overclockers,

I'm curious about overclocking a graphic card. I know, it ain't that easy and very sensitive unlike oveclocking a processor.
I have plenty Sapphire HD7700 Ghz Edition OC in my hands and I'm decided to see how far will a overclocked HD7770 go in gaming.

Recently, I overclocked one of my HD7770 to these :

Core Clock : 1150Mhz -> 1175Mhz
Memory Clock : 1250 -> 1375Mhz

With these settings, I gained extra 16GB in memory bandwidth and 7 GTexels of Texture which is pretty awesome.

Temperature is very good, around 34-35c during idle (Browsing and musics) and never surpassed 68c during heavy gaming.

The question is, will it decrease my graphic card lifetime? Even with this low temperature? I din't change any voltage such as the vcore.
So means, I'm on the save range of overclocking.
Hello sifus and technicians.

I'm having a new problem with my PC. Which is, it will stuck all of sudden while idle.
It means that the PC will unusable after 20-30 minutes of idle state.

Processor fan and 4 chassis fans are spinning still but two HD7870's fans (2x4 fans) and that's normal. Because AMD claim that the fan will automatically stop during idle to save power.
Temperatures are very good.

Processor : 34-38c (idle)
GPU : 35-37c (idle)

Keyboard, mouse and buttons are unusable at the time the PC stuck.
I don't know what to do now, just hoping you could help me

The only thing to stop this problem is to restart the PC or force it to shut-down.. The PC is less than 2 months old.

Please ensure your video drivers are up to date and you have the latest version of directx installed."

But the thing is, I've already installed AMD Catalyst 12.8 and Microsoft DirectX 11.1 (Updated through Directx runtime)

How to solve this?

Problem with newly bought GPU

Hi,
First of all, I'm a newbie here. So please guide if I did anything wrong.

I'm curious with my graphic card (Sapphire HD7870 Flex Dual-x).
Whenever game shows the in-game videos, my LCD shows something like spiky-lines. I don't know/not sure how to explain

I could run old game such as Team Fortress 2 much smoother with my HD4770 compared to my HD7870 Flex
HD4770 is a very low-end GPU compared to HD7870

But, FRAPS software is showing higher frame per second with HD7870 Flex in any games, and HD4770 never surpassed HD7870 Flex frame per second in any game.

Is there any problem with my HD7870 Flex?

It uses the powerful graphics architectures from the AMD division of AMD, incorporating multi-purpose stream processing units and improved memory management architecture" - Sapphire

"Our benchmarks have shown the Radeon HD 4770 to be a surprisingly capable performer, laying down benchmark results that were on the high side of expectation. It's run with a press-driver rather than Catalyst 9.4 final, but performance is consistent enough to beat out Radeon HD 4830 and match HD 4850. It's also faster than the GeForce 9800 GT, by a significant amount in some cases, and doesn't lose a single benchmark to it !" - Hexus Review

"What you get with the HD 4770 from ATI and Sapphire is a card that fits its niche perfectly. With the economy the way it is and people reluctant to spend big dollars on a video card upgrade, the $100 price point is where the money is going to be made. Coming in at least $30 less than the 9800GTX+ and only $20 less than the HD 4850, you have to wonder if this card will take over the slot the HD 4850 currently holds. As well as the HD 4770 performs against the GTS 250 and 9800GTX+, it offers excellent performance for your dollar. The HD 4770 was playable in almost all the benchmarks up to 1920x1200. Crysis Warhead with AA on is just too much for video cards in this performance range. The performance is not stellar, but is playable. By reducing the visual quality settings slightly, the HD 4770 should handle just about any game in the 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 range. Overclocking the HD 4770 was a little disappointing in a way. The HD 4770 is not yet supported in any of the commonly used overclocking utilities, so the limits imposed in the Catalyst Control Center seem uncommonly low at 830MHz for the R740 core and 850MHz on the GDDR5 memory. The Qimonda memory is rated to perform at 1000MHz, so you are left feeling there is more, much more, left on the table. Reaching the limits was as easy as pegging the sliders to the max and applying the clock change. Kind of less than dramatic!

The cooling solution is far from what you normally see with a reference card; the use of a dual-slot solution instead of the single slot used in the HD 4850, HD 4830 and HD 4670. This is a welcome sight since subpar cooling and excruciating noise were a fact of life when and if you could adjust the fan speed. The cooling solution on the HD 4770 looks much like an Intel CPU heatsink and does an admirable job in dissipating the heat generated by the 40nm core. When overclocked, I measured load temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius when the fan was run at 100% and 60 degrees when the drivers were in charge of the show. Even at 60C I did not see any performance issues due to heat. With an open design like this though, there is one drawback when used in a less than optimally vented case; most of the heat generated will be discharged into the case, driving up component temperatures. The upside here is that the fan noise, while audible, is not what I would call incredibly loud. It was audible over my Scythe Kaze fans, but the pitch was not such that it was out of the norm driving me nuts.

As the first 40nm card delivered, the HD 4770 delivers respectable performance above that of the HD 4670 and almost equal to that of the 9800GTX+, depending on the game being played. At $100 or less, there is nothing that competes in this price point that can deliver the performance that the HD 4770 delivers. Once the overclocking tools are available to support clock speeds above 830/850, this card should fly." - Overclockers Club Team

Gaming Performances (Images taken from Techpowerup)

HD4770 can easily beat its elder brother HD4830 and delivers HD4850's gaming performance in some games and can even beat HD4850 in some games
HD4700 obviously slash 9800GT,9800GTX,GTS250 1GB, GTX260 and HD4870's asses in some games in smaller resolution (1280x720p)

HD4890>HD4870>HD4850>HD4770>HD4830>9800GTX>9800GT>9600GT

Team Fortress 2

Crysis

Call of Juarez

Far Cry 2

Package includes: Graphic Processing Unit + Specialized anti-static plastic + 6-pin external power cable

Price: RM170

Warranty: One week of personal warranty will be given.

Warranty will be politely ignored if buyer overclocked the GPU, physical damaged, water damaged, drop damaged, unauthorized modifications, lighting and any other natural damaged.

Dealing method: Strictly COD - Postage service is currently unavailable -

Location of seller: PJ

Contact method/details: Personal Message

Age of item: Should be 2 years +

---

Item(s) conditions: Still shinny and working as it should.
Processor Cooler Placing

Hello,

I'm having headache thinking which one is actually better between two processor cooler placing.
I'm using Cooler Master TPC 812XS

I couldn't choose which one is better, to put it horizontal or Vertical
My chassis has no fan as an intake in the front (Completely plain without any fans) but my chassis has two 120mm fan slot, which is haven't mounted with any fans.
Well, I didn't plan to put so because I want my PC to run completely silent without any unwanted noise.

So back to the point, which is better? Top of the chassis has many holes for ventilation, but front don't have any ventilation.

One more thing, if I put it vertically, will the hot air (pushes by TPC 812SX's fans) affect my graphic card temperature in any situations?
Sadly, my graphic card located very near to my processor cooler

So, any helps? Thanks
