There is a 40 per cent drop in hospital beds for Covid-19 patients.

”Therefore, if we continue to observe the SOP as well as battle against Covid-19, and also appreciate the sacrifices of frontliners, we can win (the battle),” he said at the handing over ceremony of the health clinics project namely the Klinik Kesihatan (Type 3) in Penambang, Kota Baru and Klinik Kesihatan (Type 7) and Quarters, kampung Bahagia in Kuala Krai which took place at Klinik Kesihatan Penambang, here, today.

State Local Government, Health and Housing Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin and MoH secretary-general Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah were also present at the event.

Khairy also said that there are only two states ― Kelantan and Sarawak ― that are still under Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) while the other states have all moved to Phase Four.

Yesterday, Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein announced that five states ― Perlis, Perak, Penang, Sabah and Kedah will move from Phase Three to Phase Four of the PPN effective Nov 8 after taking into account the current risk assessment conducted by the MoH and National Security Council (NSC). – Bernama

https://www.theborneopost.com/2021/11/06/kh...covid-19-fight/

Dr Jayum: Suggestion For Kuching To Be Second

The suggestion made by Perikatan Nasional (PN) Sarawak chairman Senator Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian that Kuching city be made the second capital of Malaysia is not a bad idea, said political scientist Prof Dr Jayum Jawan.

However, he said he would prefer if projects in Sarawak such as the Pan Borneo Highway project be completed first.

“This will spur social-economic development and assist Malaysia in recovering from the worst effect of the Covid-19 pandemic which we have been dealing with since March 2020,” he said when contacted.

He was asked to comment on Jaziri’s suggestion which was made during his debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) at the Dewan Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Jayum said the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway will prepare Malaysia to partake in the economic development of the region.

“This is especially in view of the fact that Kalimantan will experience tremendous growth with the installation of the new Indonesian capital there,” he added.

Jaziri in his debate suggested that Kuching be made the second capital of Malaysia in line with the relocation of Indonesia’s new capital to East Kalimantan in Borneo.

He said this is expected to bring positive economic effects to the country, especially to Sarawak and Sabah and as such, would help Malaysia in achieving the objectives of the 12MP.

He also said that the new Indonesian capital’s close geographical proximity to Sarawak and Sabah will be a catalyst for greater inter-regional development for the two countries as well as bring forth many common benefits and prosperity.

https://www.theborneopost.com/2021/10/21/su...bad-idea-jayum/

Dr Annuar: Sibu Hospital Ready For Surge In

Once the oxygen level dropped below 95 per cent, individuals under home quarantine must immediately call the hospital.

He added that he has initiated a project to give a unit of oximeter to every household and longhouse in Nangka.

He said the matter is still being worked out with the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) including that of longhouses.

He also called on hawkers in the villages to comply with the SOP especially in the wearing of face masks.

The people are urged to WhatsApp the hotline (013-9994158) if they see anyone not complying with SOP.

https://www.theborneopost.com/2021/10/10/si...-say-dr-annuar/
The judiciary in Taipei City was also investigating the same case, officials said.

The CECC called on the public to register their intention to receive COVID shots according to the official timetable. The online system gives information about which age groups can receive which brand of shots at what time.

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4309672

CECC: Taiwan's Delta-Positive Pilot Likely

Philip Lo (羅一鈞)

Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Friday (Oct. 8) confirmed that a China Airlines pilot diagnosed with COVID-19 is infected with the Delta variant and that she likely contracted it in Singapore.

Case No. 16,377 is a China Airlines first officer in her 40s who received her second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in early August. From Sept. 23-26, she served as a crew member on flights to and from Anchorage, Alaska.

From Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 she underwent quarantine at a company dormitory in Taiwan. From Oct. 2-3, she stayed at her home, where she came in contact with her family members.

On Oct. 3, she was aboard a round-trip flight to Singapore that returned to Taiwan that day. As part of the 5+9 days of quarantine and self-health monitoring rule for long-haul flight crews, she was tested for COVID-19 on Oct. 5 and the result came back positive.

During a press conference on Friday, Philip Lo (羅一鈞), deputy head of the CECC’s medical response division, confirmed that genomic sequencing had revealed that the pilot was infected with the Delta variant. Lo said that the characteristics of the Delta in this case are different from the three previous Delta cluster infections and isolated local case reported in Taiwan from June to September.

Therefore, Lo said that the center can exclude those local cases as a source of her infection. She is, however, among 11 imported cases infected with the Delta variant.

Lo said that three other imported cases who arrived in Taiwan in late September were infected with a version of the Delta variant most genetically similar to that of the pilot. Two came from the Philippines and one came from Singapore.

He pointed out that none of these four cases had been on the same flights arriving in Taiwan, nor did they come in contact with each other during quarantine in different facilities in different cities. Lo says the center believes that these four cases are tied to a version of Delta now prevalent in Southeast Asia.

The CECC has requested the Civil Aeronautics Administration to assist in conducting an epidemiological investigation of case No. 16,377. According to a preliminary investigation, the pilot flew on a roundtrip flight to Singapore and back to Taiwan the same day, without disembarking from the plane.

However, when her plane landed in Singapore, some local personnel boarded the plane to carry out some administrative procedures. Lo said that she did not have direct contact with these personnel, but could not rule out indirect exposure.

He said that the source of the pilot's infection is still under investigation. The CECC official then stressed that tests administered on all of the pilot's contacts have come back negative, indicating that the incident has not become a cluster infection.

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4309779
Taiwan: President Tsai Receives 2nd Dose Of

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Thursday (Sept. 30) received the second dose of the domestic COVID-19 vaccine developed by Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp. (高端疫苗, MVC).

Thursday morning, Tsai received her second jab at the National Taiwan University College of Medicine (NTUCM) gymnasium. The whole 10-minute process was broadcast live on Facebook.

Once the president arrived at 7:13 a.m., she checked in at the front desk, and a nurse confirmed that she was to receive her second dose. The nurse then took Tsai's temperature to verify that she did not have a fever, and the president completed the required paperwork and signed her name.

An NTUCM physician then asked Tsai whether she had experienced any discomfort recently or any side effects after the last injection. Tsai said that she had not, other than slight soreness at the injection site.

The doctor said the president was well-suited to receive the Medigen vaccine and that any side effects will not impact the effectiveness of the jab. Tsai then joked, "but don't give this to me all the time."

Before and after the dose was unpacked, the nurse presented it to the media. The nurse then rolled up Tsai's sleeve, disinfected her arm, and delivered the injection.

After the inoculation, the president showed her completed yellow vaccination card to the media. She then gave the OK gesture before departing the facility.

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4301490

Report: China Builds Massive Quarantine Center

A quarantine facility in China that costs US$260 million (NT$7.25 billion), boasts 5,000 rooms and is the size of 46 football fields, is due to open in the city of Guangzhou in the next few days.

It has taken construction crews less than three months to build the Guangzhou International Health Station, as it is officially known, on the outskirts of China's southern megacity, according to a CNN report.

Incoming arrivals will stay in the rooms at the station rather than at designated hotels in a move designed to lower local residents' exposure to imported cases.

"It's arguably the most state-of-the-art quarantine center in the world, if you will—very high tech, very sophisticated," Huang Yanzhong (黃延中), a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, said.

This could be the first of many such accommodation facilities to sprout up across China in the coming months, with a similar project planned in Shenzhen, per reports.

The country's COVID policies may be heading in a different direction from the rest of the world. Just as China tightens quarantine measures for overseas arrivals, more and more countries are relinquishing restrictions. Last week, the U.S. recently announced it would ease travel restrictions on all fully vaccinated foreign visitors starting in November, per BBC.

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4300851

The following morning, he alerted police in the Changhua County town, asking for their assistance with locating the lucky winner.

Based on the time of purchase printed on the ticket, officers reviewed surveillance camera footage in the area and found the man based on his scooter license plate.

Though the man initially believed he was being targeted by a fraud ring, police persuaded him he had won the prize and accompanied him to the shop. The winner wanted to give the shop owner an envelope containing NT$2,000, but the latter only accepted NT$1,000, which he spent on candies for his customers to celebrate the event, UDN reported.

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4299875
