Was looking on home automation / wireless + voice controlled lighting system for my home sweet home back home and since I am going back for GE14 from UK this coming May, I'll be bringing some of these awesome stuffs back home with me. A Challenge & Journey to Remember.......

Hi folks, Im going to embark on my own renovation journey hopefully after raya since VP is expected to take place by the end of July. So now Im in the midst of planning and ambitiously trying not to exceed my budget of RM100k (include both renovation and furnishing). Initially I want to hire an ID coz I don’t want to add unnecessary burden to myself but as expected ID charges were way out of my budget. I’ve been reading most of the renovation journeys by the likes of weikee, phoenix69, limhm1, Maxxon, Xccess, mrgoodgood, davkong, yuanstudio, sekkee n recently princessgalaria to name a few and advices from other LYN members and goodness me the amount of info I gathered from you guys were invaluable.

Its 2nd half of 2014 already and prices of materials might be different from 2013 and years before. Im going to embed my renovation journey here in LYN so that I can get useful advices from helpful LYN forumers. Hopefully some of the new homeowners who are yet to embark in this journey will get 1 or 2 valuable info from my journey as well.

Ok lets start, I bought a newly built corner DSL house in Kajang (30’ x 75’) with a built-up of 3,200 sqft and extra land about 25’. Me and my wife planned to stay here till we retire because its simply quite impossible to get this kind of BU and extra land with fenced and guarded facilities for RM250/sqft nowadays in Kajang. Although the BU seems big enough but there are some flaws regarding the design that needs minor alteration.

I havent commit to any contractors and I hope forumers in here can help me to achieve my target of not going over my RM100k budget for both renovation and furnishing.

Here is my house plan:

I plan to do 3 major wet works, which involved:

1. Extending the upper family area by closing up the void area + tempered glass fencing + laminated flooring (10’ x 12’).
2. Demolish existing wall and extend the small master bathroom (12.5’ x 6’). Plan to extend larger than initial plan, which is (12.5’ x 3.5’).
3. Construct BRC floor c/w tiles at backyard (11’ x 4.5’) for drying area with polycarbonate roofing (11’ x 7’).

Major Wet Works - Budget 40k

For item 1, this is the area I want to add the concrete slab will be covering the void area.

I’ve got 2 quotations which differ so much its hard for me to gauge.

Quotation 1:
To construct Concrete Slab at void area (10' x 12') c/w cement render = 8,800.00
To supply & install laminate floor (10' x 12') c/w skirting = 1,250.00
To supply & install tempered glass fencing. = 2,160.00
Total = 12,210.00

Quotation 2:
Void area extension with concrete slab (10’ x 12’) c/w tempered glass fencing = 16,800.00
Laminated wood flooring (10’ x 12’) = 1,200.00
Total = 18,000.00

Hope u guys can advice me on this. Whats the norm price I should be looking at?

For item no.2, this is where I intended to extend the master bathroom.

Quotation 1:

To supply & install 4’x4’ and 2’x4’ casement window. - 1 lot = 840.00
To touch-up plaster ceiling. - 1 lot = 450.00
Plumbing works for relocating new WC, Bathtub and shower area (inlet & Outlet) c/w water-proofing - 1 lot = 2,900.00
To supply & install new wall & floor tiles for master bathroom. - 1 lot = 4,900.00
Labour charges to install sanitary, WC, bathtub, shower & bidet. - 1 lot = 500.00
Total = 17,920.00

Quotation 2:
Extension c/w plumbing works (6' x 12') and concrete slab roofing, tiling, waterproofing = 16,800.00

For item no.3, this is where I want to do the drying area.

Quotation 1:
To construct BRC floor c/w lay tiles for back yard area (8’ x 12’) = 1,850.00
To supply and install & install polycarbonate roof at back yard area = 1,560.00
To remove existing grille and change to security door, construct brick wall for top & side wall with cement plaster = 3,000.00
Total = 6,410.00

Quotation 2:
Backyard cement flooring and polycarbonate roofing (8' x 12') = 2,200.00
Installing security door (7' x 3') = 3,500.00
Total = 5,700.00

Both contractors didn’t give detailed breakdown ie cost per foot run, per square feet, which made me feel that Im being cruelly slaughtered . Hopefully some sifu can give advice on these 3 major wet works Im planning to do. I allocated RM40k initially to do these 3 wet works . Hoping to bring this down to RM30k if possible.

Minor reno works - Budget 30k - 40k

Wiring and Aircond Piping, Plaster Ceiling, Lighting, Fan and Aircond Installation, Wet and Dry Kitchen, Staircase, Bathrooms, Grille/Tinting, Folding Autogate

The rest of the area in the house will only involve furnishing. Some appliances and furnitures will use back my existing ones. Budget 30k

Based on experience frm other situs that we tend to overrun the budget, I do have 20% from the budget set aside for contingencies.

3 Blinking Red Lights Of Death..Is it the END?

I was enjoying playing Chromehounds yesterday.....without any problems or lag...was about to start a mission with Jaylike,Firdaus n Terrorisk....then suddenly d game froze...nothing moved on my TV screen....then i rebooted...n all ok..tried to reconnect to Sega server....then it froze again....at first I thought that it might be a server problem ...then I switched off d console n went to sleep...

This morning...i woke up n switched d console on....everything was working fine until i was about to start playing chromehounds...then d system froze again...n once again I rebooted the console feeling sooooo frustrated...n then the most scariest thing that can happen to any xbox360 owner seems to be knocking my door on this 1 unlucky day ....ITS D

3 BLINKING RED LIGHTS OF DEATH......

NO VIDEO OUTPUT....NO ROARING SOUNDS OF THE CPU....

Then dunno what was d error about...i ran to my pc n quickly went to xbox-scene.com forum n read everything about error codes......then ran back to d console n did a diagnostic test (using a method to find hidden code coz no video came out frm my xbox) n turned out to be the horrifying 0102 error code .....

although they said in d forum that using Hot Air Gun can fix d problem...but will it last ?I dont think its because of overheating coz i have Nyko intercooler attached n it shud be cooler....but they might circulating hot air coz in small game room there is no air cond..just a fan...i dunno....

I tried rebooting my console for 50 times straight n still no results....have tried everything suggested in d xbox-scene forum but nothing worked....havent tried d hot air gun method yet.....coz i need to open everything...n not sure whether d warranty still valid or not coz bought it frm primer last month.....if d warranty has expired or not valid...then i will try d hot air gun thingy....or if im too lazy..i might be getting a new one instead....shud i repair it or just get a new one(no money waaa)??

If i get a new one then I will use d old one as a watercooling n case modding project(if i can somehow fix them using hot air guns) or i'll just disassemble everything n sell d parts......i might just do that.....arghh im soooo frustrated n cannot think straight now.....

might be selling some of my games..parts n controller to support my new 360 so i will let u guys know when d times come....
