Can a company alter its notice period?

Guys, I've previously signed an offer letter which states the notice period is 1 month for leaving the company.

I have since worked with this company for a year and recently, a notice was issued by the company stating employees would now have to serve 3 months and this is enforceable in effective march 2016 (1 month's time). It states that it covers all employees including previous employees.

I am wondering the legality of this and is it enforceable on existing employees that have previously signed an offer letter which clearly states 1 month notice period?

PS: We're talking about Malaysia.
Transaction Banking

Hi All,

As per the topic, it is to discuss on transaction banking and everything about it. I am fairly limited in my knowledge about this particular portion of Banking and am hoping to learn from fellow forumers.

In Malaysia, is transaction banking considered part of investment banking? I know CIMB for one parks this division under the Investment Banking arm, however I do not see other banks doing the same. So I am a bit unclear.

Also, in general, what kind of increments / bonus do we look at (lets assume an average performer) ? What kind of future do we see with regards to this particular portion of banking along with the pros and cons?

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Resignation

Hi All,

I am looking to resign. I am a permanent staff with my company and the contract states that if I wanna leave, I need to give 2 months notice period.

IT DID NOT mention that I can offset it with Annual Leave OR I can pay 2 months in lieu notice. THESE 2 ITEMS IS NOT THERE.

Question:
1) If my new company wants to buy me over 1 month, how should it work? I pay off my current company and the new company pays me back?
2) Can I just insist on paying them 2 months payment?
3) If I decide to pay them 2 months, what happens to my existing annual leave?

I understand the most common advice about finding a solution with my manager by talking etc but lets forget about that for now. I'm more concerned on the legal part.

Thanks
