HP Pavilion (Vista) Webcam Fix

For those who bought HP Pavilion (running on Vista doesn't matter what model), you will notice that your webcam only works "once".

I had my share of headache trying to solve this problem, I tried googling it up and it seems HP doesn't have a solution for this annoying bug.

I came across this forum and I tried it's suggestion.

Guess what? It works perfectly for me.

My model is HP Pavilion tx1221au.

After applying the fix, I can use the webcam for MSN Live Messenger, Skype, QuickPlay, etc anytime I want.

Here are the exact steps I took.

1. Downloaded the file. Go to > http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=149463
2. Unzipped it to a folder on my desktop.
3. Ran the "Setup.exe" file in the folder that got unzipped.
4. Went through the installer until it got to the end and then let it restart my computer.
5. Waited for my computer to restart.
6. It popped up something saying it was installing the drivers for my webcam. Waited until it was done.
7. Opened the Control Panel.
8. Opened the Device Manager.
9. Find my webcam under "Imaging Devices". I noticed it was listed as "HP Pavilion Webcam" despite having just installed the Acer drivers.
10. Right-clicked on my webcam and chose "Update Driver Software..."
11. Chose "Browse my computer for driver software"
12. Chose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
13. Unchecked the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox.
14. Scrolled down to the Chicony manufacturer.
15. Chose the "Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
16. Told it to install anyway when it asked me a question about installing that driver.
17. Waited for the driver to be installed.
18. Noted that my webcam was now listed as an Acer Crystal Eye webcam in Device Manager.

White line on notebook LCD

My LCD has a vertical white line.
Anyone here can help me fix it?
What do you all recommend, send to a service center?
I heard someone from this forum mentioned that I need to massage the screen to fix it, but that was for dead pixels, how do i deal with vertical white line?

Does "Black" color wallpaper prolong LCD/Bat life?

Hey guys currently I'm using plain black as wallpaper for my notebook.
My friends encourages me to use black color because they say it will prolong LCD lifespan and also battery life.

According to them, white color as wallpaper is the worst because the LCD has to mix/display all primary colors (I think is red, green and blue) to generate white color.

Whereas black color the LCD do not have to project/display any primary color, thus giving you a black screen. They also claim that it will prolong battery life of your notebook.

It sounded very convincing and I am currently using plain black as my wallpaper.
Furthermore with my glossy screen, it can double up as a mirror too.
I can see people behind my back (especially my boss) and sometimes can use it to comb my hair.

So is it a myth or a fact that black color wallpaper saves battery and prolong LCD lifespan?

I have been hunting down Core 2 Duo since last 2 weeks and this is what I found.

I think the website above uses the same template as Dell website.
The cheapest I can get is AUS 1624 and thats like RM 4800 ++ here.
Quite expensive for a Core 2 Duo notebook.
I suspect the price will be around that range when it hits our shore.

I can't get any information regarding T2050 processor, hope someone here might help me. I even tried Intel, Acer official websites but no information also.

Seems like Acer don't bother to describe it's product. I saw this model in Low Yat, according to the personnels there 5541 and 5543 just came in this week. New model from Acer.

I notice the FSB is only 533MHz, normally duo core able to support up to 667MHz. Is there a typo in this advertisement?

Is it a good deal? for RM 2999?
