Logitech mouse (MX-518) problem

Hi guys, I've recently gotten a USB mouse from Logitech, which is the MX-518. Previously I was using a PS/2 mouse. At first, when I plugged in my new mouse, the mouse didn't not move. Thinking that it was driver problem, I installed the driver that came with the mouse. So, it worked.

Then, recently, the driver has a newer version. So, I decided to update my software. However, before I finish updated my software, my antivirus popped up and require my permission to allow the driver to be updated. It was then my nightmare begun. My new mouse cannot move(but I can still right click and stuff, it's just that the cursor cannot move). Having stucked in this situation, I forced reboot my pc and the cursor did not move since then. I had to plug in my old PS/2 mouse to move my cursor for now.

I tried reinstalling the driver but it did not help. I had also tried to change to other USB ports behind my pc's casing but my mouse still cannot be used to move the cursor However, when I tried to plug the USB mouse into other ports, e.g. the front usb ports on my casing (I was using the rear USB ports previously), I can move the cursor using the USB mouse again.

So, I need help from you folks to help me figure out the source of this abnormality and also the solution to this problem. I thank you for your patience in reading this long write-up of mine.
Comments on the setup

Hi all, I'm planning to setup a rig soon(either this weekend or next week). I've a budget of RM2500+/-100 and I have decided on this parts:

DUAL CORE E2140 RM230.00
Gigabyte P35-DS3 RM385.00
Kingston DDR2 667MHZ 1GB x4 RM260.00
Western Digital SATA II 16MB 320GB RM260.00
Silverstone Strider ST56F (560W) RM350.00
Sapphire HD3870 512MB DDR4 RM799.00
Cooler Master RC-690 RM245.00
Total RM2529.00

The parts that I'll reuse are my IDE optical drive, LCD, keyboard, mouse and speakers. I'll be using this PC for gaming and also some simple CAD drawing. It'll be running on 1680x1050. Also, I'll be ocing the processor to reduce the bottleneck between the processor and the GC.

Please help me to comment on this setup. There's 3 point that I would like to ask here:
a) Is the PSU an overkill for this setup? Which PSU is better? ST56F or HX520?
b) Should I get 2GB x2 or should I just stick with 1GB x4?
c) Where should I get this rig? Should I purchase it parts by parts from different place or buy all at one shop? If it's the latter, which shop is good for their after sales service?
Thanks for your time.

Group Policy problem

I have recently formatted my computer and has reinstalled my Windows XP Home Edition. Since the CD that came with my pc only comes with service pack 1, I have to download service pack 2 from Microsoft's website. However, after installing the SP2, I cannot access the internet. I also cannot change my firewall settings. There's a notice saying that the settings are controlled by group policy. As far as I understand, group policy is only for XP Professional, am I right? How come I'm getting this message eventhough I'm only using XP Home Edition? May I know how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot

Problem with PowerPoint

Hi all. I'm currently having problems with my Microsoft Office Powerpoint. Whenever I open Powerpoint files on my pc, whenever there are symbols, my Powerpoint will display it with some other funny symbols, like a bicycle, black dot, etc. May I know what is wrong with my Powerpoint? Thanks

Soundcard

Hi all. I would like to purchase a soundcard. Since most of the time I will only be watching movies and also listening to music, which soundcard do you all recommend? Preferably an external but an internal would also be fine. Both 2.1 and 5.1 soundcards are acceptable. My budget is around 200-300.

Btw, is there any difference in performance between an internal and external soundcard?

Thanks.

Another home networking problem..

Hi all, I'm currently connecting a desktop and a laptop through a router (D-Link DI 604) which is then connected to my modem (the one provided by Streamyx, ZTE ZDSL 831). I'm now trying to set up file sharing between these two computers. I did the network set up and workgroup naming procedures and I tried pinging each other but it said "Request Time-Out". My desktop is using Windows XP SP2 while my Laptop is using Windows XP SP1. Can anyone out there help me solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
