Hello sifus...

Old uncle here again with another newbie question. Has anyone used OBD HUDs before?
I want to get one for my Alza 2018. I have seen a lot of models on Shopee, but have one specific question.
Can I change WHAT DATA is displayed on each of the screens?
The one I am interested in is this :

https://shopee.com.my/OTP-XS-Perodua-Myvi-V...707.24514457931

Has anyone used this before?
LED Light For Alza 2018

Hello...

Old uncle here. After 25 years of Kancil and Kelisa, finally bought a very nice used Alza 2018 with EPF money.

Thinking of using LED lights for a long time to help me see better at night.

While doing research, there seem to be so much to consider but I finally narrow down to Philips Ultinon Pro3021 H7.

Wonder if anyone using this on their Alza.

1. How is it? Okay no okay? The good the not good?
2. A bit concerned if the dust cover can fit after install. If cannot, how?

Thanks for your patience in answering.

Duplicate Alza Key

Hello again.

After so many years of driving old small cars, I finally bought an Alza from myTukar.
Want to duplicate the key.

I THINK Perodua original is around RM300 (going to call them later)
Locksmith price is around RM180 to Rm 250.

I am prepared to go with Perodua original... BUT if really expensive, is locksmith duplicate key okay?

I read somewhere that duplicate key can cause damage to ECU. Is this correct?

Anyone with experience can educate me?

Recommend a Car Scanner Please.

Thinking of getting a basic car scanner OBD. I have a Perodua Kelisa 2004 and Perodua Kenari 2002. Cars sometimes perangai but when I take to my foreman, he cannot find anything wrong. He said might want to consider getting a basic car scanner so that when the issue happen, quickly scan and then tell him the error code.

So many on Shopee. Very confused. Anyone own a car scanner? Does It really help?
Any recommended brand?

Budget RM300 max.

LED headlamp bulb for Kelisa

Family complain Kelisa hot. 9 months ago, installed tint. Tint super good. Doesn't cause any problem for anybody EXCEPT ME AT NIGHT.
The tint I got is rated at 70%. Not sure is it means 70% or 30% light blocked but doesn't seem very dark.
Anyway... this old uncle eyesight not as good as when young.
I heard can change to halogen bulbs to make my headlights brighter. BUT I HATE THOSE BLINDING THINGS. Then I read now got
LED BULBS for kelisa. Saw on Shopee is available. As always, always think to come here to ask more experienced people.

1. Can Kelisa use LED bulbs? Plug and play or modifications required?
2. Do they eat more power and then my battery or alternator kong faster?
3. How long do they last?
4. Is it overkill? Stupid or not?

As always, eager to hear what sifus here can teach old uncle.

Perodua Kenari Move 2002.
Called 2 gearbox shops in Klang. They said to overhaul same price as replace with recon gearbox.
What are the pros and cons?
I was thinking if repair, I'm sure it's my gearbox. But might take longer....
If replace with recon, faster, but...

Can anybody help and old uncle please?

New Throttle Body From Perodua Service Center?

Hi sifus... Kelisa 1.0 ezi 2004. 2 years ago, my idling problems started. Seems after I clean throttle body + sensor, the timing is good but lasts only for about 1-2 months. Then have to repeat. Am now using my 3rd throttle body sensor (TBS) in 2 years. First TBS cost RM270 (from mechanic) died within 1 year, second RM120 (from parts shop) died also within one year. Now this one I bought from Lazada is giving problems after only 4 months. Seems like I'm wasting money. Called Perodua Service Center and ask for TBS quote. They say the TBS comes with throttle body itself (RM582). Anybody with experience getting throttle body replacement from PSC? Parts shop is quoting me RM200+ and that also is half-cut or recon. Plus sensor and labour should come to around RM400. I'm thinking whether make sense to just change at PSC. I donno if PSC throttle body is recon or new.

Can I DIY Dismantle & Clean Kelisa Throttle Body?

Hello Car Sifus...

This is not my picture, but can you tell me what is #1, #2 and #3? (Kelisa 1.0 Auto)
Is #2 fuel line?

Last week, my RPM went up and down a bit just before turning off engine (meaning after driving go to "P" rpm okay, but when turn off aircon, rpm drop a bit low, then look like fluctuate looking for idle.)

Decided to clean my throttle body. Cleaned Idle Control Valve also, but this time, I took out hose #2 and spray into the inlet (never did before because scared and dont know what they hose is for). But after spray into the inlet #2, rpm now very nice.

I want to learn to take out my throttle body and clean properly myself. is it difficult? Only thing I not sure how to take out is the cable #3. Don't know what this cable is.

Thank you for taking time to teach old uncle.

Kancil Steering Rack Recond or Japan?

Hi...back here to ask sifus again.

Old kancil 850 (year 2000) got sort of like knocking/clunking sound when on the road. Went to 2 mechs, including my regular to see what 's their diagnosis. Both said it's the steering rack. Both quote @M200++. Went to spare parts shop and they have 2 types - recond (RM120) and Japan made (RM180). Original out of the question - RM3000++ - more expensive than my Kancil value L L!

So question is : What's the difference between recond and Japan steering rack? Will recond one do? I only use Kancil for local driving within 20km radius, but worry recond one will kaput one day after 1-month warranty ends.

Thanks for your input sifus...
What does a Kancil Clutch Bearing look like?

Here again to ask sifus a question. My Kancil 850 Clutch giving a squeal noise. Not loud but according to mechanic, most likely the clutch bearing is kaput. Problem is going long journey this holidays. He said that to change clutch bearing is roughly RM250 to RM300, but if clutch pad is gone, need to change that also. Went to parts shop, they quote Daikin Clutch Kit as RM185 including pad, cover and bearing. They say it comes as a set, can't buy bearing only. I've seen the Kancil clutch kits before, but always looks like there are only 2 parts in the box - the pad and the cover. Is the bearing attached to the pad or cover? If it's a separate thing, what does it look like? Paiseh if this sounds like a simple question. Am not a car savvy. Thanks for taking the time to reply...

Drive Shaft Problems

Hi... hope you sifus can help with my second old kancil 850 manual (10 years old).

Problem started after changing engine mounting but not immediately after.

First, there was the clunking sound when braking and slowing down. No sound when U-Turn.
To solve this, had to change one part after another to find the problem :
- Left knuckle (wheel bearing, I think) - still got sound.
- Left lower arm (definitely worn and need to change) - still got sound.
- Then absorber mountings and absorbers - old and need to change.
- Clunking sound then stopped.

However, 2 weeks after that, the drive shaft (kluck, kluck) sound came when making U-Turn.

- Changed left drive shaft. Cost around RM180.
- Was okay for the first few days, then kluck sound started again on and off.
- Had to wait for after Chinese New Year for the sound to become loud. Funny thing was the sound only came when making U-Turn from stationary positiion.
- Mechanic replace the drive shaft FOC.
- 3 months later, sound came again.
- Since I am a regular customer, mechanic boss agreed to change drive shaft FOC again. But last kopek, he said.

Now, warranty has expired and am hearing the stupid kluk sound again. Very slight, but unmistakable

Questions :

I wonder if this constant drive shaft problem is caused by :

- low quality drive shafts (china made) in the market today. My mechanic said he's been having a hard time finding supplier of good quality drive shaft.

or

- bad engine mounting installation/too many part changed.

I am a very careful driver. I'm the kind of fella you don't like to drive behind because I drive slow, so drive shaft problem is not because I goreng the car.

Your 2 cents is most welcome, because I'm trying to understand why my drive shaft keeps giving problems.
Can anyone suggest a good drive shaft repairman in Klang or reputable part shop?

Thanks. Sorry for being so cheong hei. Better to give detailed explanation than let you keep asking questions later.

Modem or Router (and how to connect) ?

Do I need to replace my modem with a ADSL modem or am I supposed to somehow connect both?
2. I've been window shopping and the Aztech 4-port ADSL modem seems to be everywhere - is this a good brand? By good brand I mean easy to set up.
3. I notice there's a G and N rating. I live in a single storey terrace house. Should I choose G or N? What's the difference?

Actually I think I have more questions, but I'm not sure what to ask!

Can some patient soul help me or point me to a detailed link?

Thank you so much in advance!

Changing Kancil Gear Oil

Hi Car Sifus...

I started changing my own engine oil, plugs etc this year and found it really easy/convenient/economical. Plus gives me a sense of satisfaction - must be that male ego thing - but I actually did most of my own motorbike work years ago.

Now, I'm wondering if it's possible to DIY gear oil change. Some questions :

1. Where the heck are the drain and fill plugs to change gear oil? (Don't Laugh...) I kinda know roughly but I don't suppose there are pics online to show me where these things are.
2. How much gear oil goes into a Kancil 850? What type is best?
3. How do I get the gear oil in? I notice they use a kind of pump for that. Is there any other way?
4. Are there any other things I need to do?

Thanks friends.

DIY Security WebCam

Wanna ask sifus here some questions.

I have a problem with a bad neighbour. Police reports have been made - its that serious.

I would like to install CCTV but I don't have the budget.

Is there any way to DIY a normal webcam to function as an outdoor (house porch) security camera - preferably able to function at night as well?

If possible, what kind of hardware, software and cost are we talking about?

Thanks so much in advance

My Kancil is sick

I have so many questions. I was thinking to post separate questions but
then I figured I might as well tell the whole story and ask everything
one shot. I hope you kind people don't mind.

Here's what's happening to my 1998 Kancil 850 :

Chinese New Year eve, before heading back to Penang, my Kancil started
very bad (never did it before)in the morninig. Was idling very rough and
jerking for the first 5 km or so.

Now, in the morning (6 am) the idling is rough - sputters at around 800
rpm and feels like wants to conk out. Gets better if accelerator pressed
lightly, but once on the road, everything okay.

Spark plugs are sooty (black).

Need to top up oil (around 1 liter) for every 3-4000km.

After last service, I asked my mechanic to increase the idling speed a
bit. Now I think it is a bit too much. Still sputters at around 800 rpm
in the mornings but when idling now it reaches up to 1200 rpm (air con
and radio on)

Smoke appearing from the exhaust. Smoke DID start to come out since
around November but lately seems more.

Now car feels sluggish with around 25% less power.

Questions :

- My mechanic says it's time to do a "grand bar"/"grind bar". What
exactly is this? Is the sooty spark plug an indication that a "grand bar"
is needed?

- Could the smoke from exhaust and sluggishness be due to the
timing/carburator/oil in the pistons?

- How much would a "grand bar" cost and how long will it take?

- Is my engine oil consumption already at critical level for an 8 year
old car?

- I feel like the engine (fuel system) is not clean. If the "grand bar"
can be delayed for a couple of months, is it safe to add a fuel treatment
to my petrol to help clean out my engine for the time being? What type of
fuel treatment should I use?

- Any other thing I can do to help my sick Kancil? It's served me really
well and I really depend on it for my small business.

Thank you so much for helping me. I do my best to maintain my car, but I
am just not very knowledgeable in cars....

Andrew

Another Newbie Streamyx Question

Streamyx seems to be good for me. Once connected, no problems.

BUT CONNECTING IS THE PROBLEM ! In the morning, I can't connect. Takes a long time.

1. Get error 678. What is this?

2. The installer said that when I switch off the modem, I must leave it off for at least 5 minutes otherwise the server cannot detect that I am offline and will assume I am online, so that's why I cannot connect to the net. Huh???? Did I dengar the fella correct or can someone explain to me?

3. Must I use dialler to connect? The installer set up auto connect so it's supposed to connect the first time I launch IE in the morning. Is this the cause of the problem?

Thanks in advance for all the help, Streamyx Sifu's....
