TM tagging unifi a/c to router macc addr?

Hi guys, sorry for the long post but I thought it would be useful to document what I seem
to have discovered.

I have been testing various routers on my newly turbo-ed unifi connection and through constantly
swapping different routers into my setup I have encountered a curious phenomenon which leads me to
suspect that TM is associating our router's macc address to our unifi login id.

Over the last couple of weekends I noticed that when initially switching out a router for another one,
the connection would not come up for quite some time. A cursory inspection of the system logs revealed
authentication errors, so I ended up re-configuring the router from scratch making sure I got the login id and password right.
After repeated failed attempts, the router would magically succeed in bringing up the pppoe connection.

Cut to this afternoon when I was swapping in a pfsense box I built from some old junk hardware and I experienced
the now familiar problem of the connection not being authenticated. After faffing about for some time the router
mysteriously connected successfully. Then in the course of switching the wan interface to another network
port for testing, the connection went down again. Now switching the wan port to the 3 other network ports would
result in the connection being rejected for authentication errors but when I switched it back to the original port
which had made the successful connection it would work.

So long story short. I called it quits and decided to come back tomorrow and work on it some more but
when I reconnected my original mikrotik router to the O.N.U. the connection would not authenticate.
After another half hour of trying different unsuccessful trouble shooting steps I called TM asking them to reset
the port twice but I still could not connect. After getting off the phone I swapped the pfsense box back in
and the connection went back up. After poring through the logs I noticed the reply from TM's radius server
during login as "Maxsessions Exceeded" and googled this error and found someone had reported that he got the
same error and it turned out his ISP was doing a 1:1 tagging of his router's macc address to his account
and after calling them, they cleared the tag and he was able to connect again.

Link to post on ISP macc addr tagging.

I had just got off the phone so was not very keen on calling them back and waiting in the queue so I
decided to jot down the macc address of the interface on the pfsense box that could make a successful
connection then plugged my mikrotik router back in and manually set the macc address of the wan port to
the one I had written down. Sure enough the connection came back up.

So guys, if you are about to change your router, try jotting down the macc address of the current functioning
router's wan interface. Then if you swap another router in and cannot connect, try setting the wan macc address
on the new router to the one on the old router. This might save you some time troubleshooting in case you
encounter a similar issue. Also report back if any of you have experienced a similar issue.

Thanks.

Solved Unifi 800Mbps only getting 200Mbps Mikrotik

Hi, I am located in Tawau Sabah and my 100 Mbps unifi connection was just turbo-ed to 800 mbps according to the unifi status page after receiving the notification sms from TM.
I have followed the instructions in the SMS and turned the modem & router off and back on but my speedtest only shows me getting around 150++ mbps download and 100 mbps upload
on average. Highest download speeds were just over 200 mbps and upload less than 200 mbps depending on the server that I choose. I am testing on a desktop pc connected via ethernet
using a cat 5e cable direct to the router and no clients on the wifi network.

I have brought this up using live chat but the support staff said the turbo program is still in testing phase and that this is normal. Not being satisfied I called the 100 tech support number
and after resetting the connection twice without any change, they opened a report for me.

Anyone in Sabah having this issue. I see screenshots on lowyat of people getting 400-500 mbps after being turbo-ed but they are in peninsular malaysia so I am wondering if this issue is due to
my location.

Thanks.
