NEW VISTA EXPERIENCE

New Vista User Log. From a XP user

Purchased a note book with VISTA Premium, 2 Weeks ago.

Preliminary Outlook.

Damn, Loading up VISTA is damn slow, and this is supposed to be a newer machine even with 1gb ram. Apart from that the VISTA interface looks good. AERO and all the smooth graphics need some time of getting used to. Transferring from a XP to VISTA for general computing is not at all hard. Everything seems same to XP.

Transferring data

Being a office notebook, transferring data from old to new computer is inevitable. The setting up to the office network which most computer either at XP or 98 is ok. Net work compatibility if fine. Locating computer from the network and transferring files is as what is suppose to do.

First hurdle. The driver for communal Printer is not vista ready. Looking form the website, there is a driver for vista but not official release. Need to manual install and set up. For normal printer is fine but network printer/fax/scanner all in one is a bit risky business. Finally got the printer installed manually from the manufactut rer technician on the phone. The driver used is not official, temporary measure taken until official vista driver is out which is supposed to take a few more month.

Next testing and installing all the normal everyday software normally used.

1)	Outlook. -OK
2)	ANTIVIRUS -OK
3)	MS OFFICE -OK
4)	Custom dos based program which uses full screen on DOS. -NOT OK
5)	Networked program -OK
6)	3party utility program -NOT OK
7)	Firefox. -Problematic when installing plug in

Some comment here. Some programs that had been quoted vista compactable is have bugs. Huge Bugs. Next. Upon uninstalling. Traces of the program still left in start menu and program files folder. And the program in this folder cannot be deleted. Funny.

Finally decided, decided to try out all the program that Microsoft can offer instead of the alternative.

>>>>>>> <<<<<<< fEELIGN NOW??
(1) HP Presario V3010 (2) HP Pavilion. DV6205. Owned the Presario 4 month ago, pavilion just got it today.

AMD X2 processor with 1GB ram running on WIN XP, 14" widescreen.

Just got my hands on the pavilion today running on core duo, 1GB ram but VISTA Premium, 15" widescreen

First Reaction, the 15" frame is way too big compared to the 14" ones. For portability, 14" is just nice. The 15" looks like giant.

XP vs. VISTA. The bloody vista takes much more longer time to boot even with pavilion superior spec. first complain here.

Luckily the interface for the vista run quite smooth once it all boot up. Played around a while. Other than the more amazing graphics... nothing on vista amazes me yet.

First look...... XP still my choice OS for responsive....Vista just too animated.....

14" vs 15" screen... 15" is better to look at but 14" is better term of looking at whole notebook build and looks more compact. the width of the keyboard is exactly the width of the 14" screen and with the 15" there is ample space on both side of the keyboard which I personally think could be better make use of...

Right..... time to take a shower and muck around both lappie....

Layman review to be continue....

[addedon]February 28, 2007, 11:20 pm[/addedon]

Physical Appearance.

Just comparing the physical size of both 15" and 14". notice the huge band next to the keyboard on the pavilion compared to the presario.[attachmentid=198733]

Also design. presario have nice straight edge like a LOTUS EXPRIT and pavilion have a nice curvy edge like a ferari.... both have its distinction and it depends on preference but i still like the design of the v series specially the hinge area which looks more solid..

[addedon]February 28, 2007, 11:21 pm[/addedon]reserved.....

2nd life for old PDA

I own a IPAQ 2210 and its nearing the end of its shelf life with all the new PDA comming out. Thinking of converting it to a mp3 and mp4 player to streatch the lifespan. Since it accept SD and CF cards. Putting in 2 piece 1G cards into each slot gives me 2G. ( with gives me memory on par with current flash based player ) Any idea of other tweaks to gives this old horse a new life?
