[POLL] Why People Change/Upgrade Their HandPhones?

The Delima
Recently my friend ask me on recommendations on what new hand-phone to buy.
Well, just looking back on her current phone state, she actually don't need to change a phone yet.
She say she just want to update to another new phone, and stuck in which phone to buy, as shopping for a phone is like shopping for a women's cloths, so many variety to choose from.

My Point of Views
I going out by explaining which phone to buy, it is important to know what interface suit you best.
Like a computer with similar hardware specifications, the software is the determine factor on what it can do, expected to do, and limitations it had, Hence an operating system is the core environment which the ecosystem sustained. Hand-phones had many different type of operating system from apple, windows, android etc... Each are proprietorially different, chattered to different group of people. You must know you are a windows person, apple person, android person etc. Else will end up like one of my friend who first time buying apple product - iphone 6 , desperately wanting to sell it after using for <24hrs, as he was overused to android interface.

A OS platform will determine what groups of apps it will optimized to run on.

After choosing the favorite platform, then choose your hardware. What you want your phone to have. Big screen for gamers/movie buffs, Stylus support for designers, Good Clear cameras for photo bloggers, Extra loud/clear audio and bass for audiophiles etc.

Then with your selected expected budget, choose the range of phones that might be your next phone. But before deciding on which to commit, hold the phone in your palms, make sure the grip is right (not too big or small) , weight is right (not too heavy or too feather like), feel is right ... before goes into functional part of it, the responding time, in between app laggs, camera pixel quality etc..

Further Thought
After a further thought, why not just throw out a poll and see what people want / intended in anticipating a change/upgrade their hand-phones.
In this customer driven market, customers drive the economy in manner of supply and demand. Hence it is important to know what a customer thinks, and therefore a targeted sales can be achieved.
I am not here to promote/compare phone brands/specs, the intended study is the initial motive to the action of change.
Anyway, enjoy the poll and see whats everyone's opinion.

Inside Canon Lens

Canon Inside

What is inside a lens ? i am indeed very curious , why it can do sophisticated autofocus and zooming ?? what is a motor drive ??? turning your lens forcefully on AF mode will spoil the gear "box" ...
my curious little mind , and my itchy hands ~

well, i just come across something that i can prey on. A Canon EFS 18-55mm Kit lens for my 350D !!

The kit lens already been faulty starting this year. Anytime i put on this lens, it shows "error 99" on the camera and it just stop functioning.
since it had no longer having warranty , nor it may be useful (i had 18-200mm in hand) , i decide to "kill" the lens for my experiment purpose.

I set up everything i need on my hostel study table, then i unscrew every available screw i found on it.
Anyway, i am not a lens expert, hence i actually don't know much of lens construction and purpose.
If anyone have similar experience or expertise do feel free to comment.

the Canon EFS 18-55mm non IS kit lens side view. Well, since it is a long ago lens, scratches and marks are evident.

I first unscrew the UV filter and lens cap.

The four screw is removed from the base.

Removing the base cover, a circuit board is seen.

The circuit board is neatly build, with 4 integrated circuit chip on it. It looks simple. The ribbon cable is connected to several contact strip that acts as a sensor to sense the focal length position (when the zoom is turn) and the AF position (near or infinity)

After removing the ribbon cable , the circuit board is then put aside . The micro motor wire (black and red) is still intact.

The small lens in the center is the lens focus the image onto the camera sensor. The metal area below the lens holds the "gear box" of AF.

With focal length set at 55mm, the lens element move forward . this expose the whole "gear box" and a micro sensor disk (that sense the degree of rotation of the front element during AF).

I finally found the culprit of the faulty lens, a broken cable (pointed by the screwdriver). This cable runs forward into the core element (i not sure what it supply ,since it is covered by thick plastic which is not bound by any screw - and i am stuck here as no visible screws are seen to pry in the core lens element)

well, finally take out the "gear box' with the circuit board.
System Responsiveness Issue

Q: Is there a way to increase responsiveness of a computer when the computer is on heavy data transfer?

My Comp Spec:
Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 1066MHzFSB with Frezzer Pro Cooling.
Gigabyte DQ6 P965
OCZ DDR2 6400@7100 2GB Dual Channel With LC.
HD3850 256MB
Creactive X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
>2TB HDD array.

During Normal Times, The Computer is fast, However , during multiple Data Transfer, like copying data from one place to other, the system responsiveness like old times P4.... Laggy. I check the Processor Ussage, it is only 2-4% been Used. Memory only 226MB been used.

Is there a way to speed up system responsiveness during multiple data transfer ?
I rely on Huge chunk of data transfer through LAN and USB and also between hardisk everyday.
Thanks.

[WTA] What makes a best Calculator ?

INTRO :

Currently Joining Folding@Home and find that it is a usefull way to spend IDLE processes at home and as well stress your component for humanity and by the mean time check your stability of your RIG other than using Pi or PRIME that only spending time and precesses for nothing

Folding@Home website
http://folding.stanford.edu/

QUESTION :

Computers is actually Calculators that can do more things that just calculations ... so i need a really good idea of building a good calculator to calculate workable Proteins

i find that ... the calculation and rendering of a working unit is far more HARD that just unlimit numbers of Pi ...

I use the SCHOOL computer (2.8GHz P4 ) and it need >6 hours to get 10% of a calculation done .... argh ... using 1M Pi ... it need only 55Sec .... see the difference ?

So slow the comp yet so complicated the calculation ...

So WAHTs MAKEs a BEST CALCULATOR ?

Currently there is war on Bus speed , multiplier , pipeline and Actual GHz ... So which is the most important component for a calculation ? The transfer of data ? The Brain works ?...

Celeron had High Multiplier , P4 had long Pipeline , Conroe and AMD 64 had fast Bus speed .....

Which of the breed is the Calculation master ?

Opetron Wins Xeon in most of the data transfer benchmarks ...

OCed Computer can reach 9Sec in 1M Pi calculations ...

Ah .. still need all the OCkers ideas ...

Current i think of OC my p4630 to 5.4GHz by all means to beat the 9 sec 1M Pi record or should i use PD 950 to OC to 4.8GHz with DDR2 1K RAMS ... Or just get Xeon or Opetron server and get the Calculation done ...

IDEAs OCkers ? thanks

[WTA] Overclockability drop with new PSU ?

I have a Asus motherboard P5RD1-VM , with P4 630 3.0GHz processor , 2X512MB Kingston DDR400 and x1300 ATI graphic .

With Old Colorsit 480W PSU , My Overclock P4 can go up to 3.9GHZ ... But after i buy a brand new RM78 Colorsit Pure power 500W PSU , the computer keep restart and show "Overclock Fail , Please press F1 to run Setup or F2 to load Default "

The Clock Stables at max 3.53GHz ... I am puzzled .. i think i been cheated by the shop .

Then i go to another shop to buy a RM180 Power Logic ATRIX Real Power BTX 500W . Same thing happen and The thing gets worse ... Now only stable at max 3.45Ghz ....

I don't think ATRIX will give Lousy power output .... as it have mention the total power Peak output will be at 1KW ....

Anyway , is that dealing with power ? or any other Factor , such as overpowered PC cannot be overclocked ?

Or should i Buy the RM4++ Cooler Master 550w SLI power supply ?

I don't think my P4 with x1300 use that much of energy ....

EDIT :
Cooler Master 550W SLI bought .
New Info at :http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=306658&view=findpost&p=7720803

I want >50 Bots to get High with !
( I play too much 3rd person shooter games lol )

Or i need a server to play it ?
May be i should buy an intel server if no one have the answer ....

What's ATI X1k series max Core Clock ?

I have a ATI radeon x1300 256mb Graphic card with default 450mhz core clock and 500Mhz Memory clock .

I had overclock it to 650Mhz Core clock and 300Mhz Mem clock and still going higher stable without artifact in stock voltage .

1. Does 200Mhz overclock spoil my graphic processor ?

2. ATI x1K series using what gpu and what is the maximum theorotical Overclock for it ?

I just scare that when it reach it Clipping , the processor would just Spoiled.
Anyway , overheat is not my proble because i have a big (Noisy) industrial 12cm fan blowing on it . with another Cooler master ViVa cooling Heat sink on it . The core hardly reach 60 celcius on load .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDITED : ADD SOME MORE STUFF ABOUT ATI R520 core
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just Some Somple Introduction to ATI X1K series:

ATI's "R520" or Fudo core is the foundation for a line of DirectX 9c 3D accelerator x1000 video cards. It is ATI's first major architectural overhaul since the "R300" core and is highly optimized for Shader Model 3. The Radeon X1000 series using the core was introduced on October 5, 2005 (From Wikipedia)

QUOTE

Board Name , Core Type , and Core Clock

X1300 HyperMemory RV515 400MHz
X1300 RV515 450MHz
X1300 Pro RV515 600MHz
X1600 Pro RV530 500MHz
X1600 XT RV530 590MHz
X1800 GTO R520 500MHz
X1800 XL R520 500MHz
X1800 XT R520 625MHz
X1800 XT PE R520 695MHz
X1900 GT R580 575MHz
X1900 XT R580 625MHz
X1900 XTX R580 650MHz

More reliable Info for R520 Core for ATI X1K series :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_R520

And some from http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/835/1/page_1_introduction/index.html

QUOTE

The X1800XT comes clocked at 625MHz on the core and 750MHz on the memory or 1.5GHz DDR. We got the core up to 665MHz and the memory to 860MHz or 1.72GHz DDR.

The X1600XT comes clocked at 590MHz on the core and 700MHz on the memory or 1.4GHz DDR. The core increase was just behind the X1800XT and reached 652MHz and the memory was able to achieve 770MHz or 1.54GHz DDR.

According to my statistical reasearch Most people just Bump up their GPU core to the max with Some Tweaking Program like ATITOOL or ATITRAYTOOL to get better performance ( OF course Void Warranty ... Unless You Insists)....

But what we don't normally Know is the CRITICAL VALUE for a certain Core Before we Judge it best for certain uses like gamming ...

I had Try My Overclock X1300 Graphic card yester day with ATITOOL and it Reach 680Mhz before the computer detect Artifacts and then Hang . ( of course with Coolermaster Cooling Viva VGA cooler , not stock )
It is a 230Mhz overclock for my 450Mhz Default Clocked Card .

From the Series Intro above , it have Much more overclock than the X1300Pro Series which had it default clock set at 600MHz.

This probably means , Across the same X1300 Family or the RV515 family the critical Maximum Clock is 680MHz ....

Then I had Some NEW Question :

1. Can anyone Find The Critical Maximum Clock for other X1k series core as well .

2. Do Overclocking Ability of a graphic card is limited by its Graphic card Board ( Like Processors on certain motherboard ...... Limits to most 3.8 to 4.2 max clock )

3. Can a Overclocked Low end Graphic card out perform the higher end graphic card ( Like my case , X1300 series 450mhz to X1300PRO series 600MHz) across the same core and save money ? Assume the Memory is overclock as well .

4. it seems that 700MHz is the Manufacture set maximum core speed for R520 Family core . (RX1800 XT PE R520 @ 695MHz) Is that true that All X1k series graphic Card cannot reach the speed as fast a current computers ? Or they want to save the price to use BIG heat SINKS for Cooling ?

Thanks
