Hi,

I've been trying to get custom sofa/ottoman designs for my living spaces. The designs were items I spotted at Pinterest. Managed to find 1~2 vendors, but they could not copy it 100%, it was 50~60% similar at best.

Any good custom furniture vendors you guys know of? Preferably those with good reputation & sample work available.

Penalty due to slow bank

Hi all,

I bought a subsale home and the bank was ultra-slow, so I'm way past the 90 days period to settle the loan disbursement.
Based on the bank's speed, it seems like I've another 1/2 month or so to go before its completed and I'm paying penalty to the owner every single day.
My lawyer says there're no workarounds and if the owner insist of payments, then we'll have to pay them.

Quite frustrating because this is not my fault at all. The bank was slow (officer cuti, officer forgot certain document etc).
Any way I can get out of paying this penalty? Or get the bank to pay it? Or other options?

Water, electricity bills

Hi,

My tenant is about to move in and I'm wondering on how the electricity and water bills are to be registered/paid. My unit is in a serviced residence and currently we pay the water bill to the management (not sure about the electricity as the unit did not have any fans/lights tetc). Questions:
1) Is it a the norm to have the electricity/water bills to be under my name?What happens if the tenant doesn't pay the bill?
2) What are my alternatives, to protect myself against surprise outstandings?

Purpose of topic: To highlight unscrupulous business practices and ask if a refund is possible.

Summary:
The overall experience is one where the seller doesn't know the product, doesn't care if it works or the buyer finds it useful or not. While only being borderline illegal, it is highly unethical. Seller also shows tendencies of attempting to scam customer because till date there is nothing about the known incompatibilities is stated in their thread, and the convenient caveat (see #13) is not mentioned anywhere in their thread. Seller is in a position where if the powerbank doesn't work, they can say easily say it's incompatible and either you:
1) Are at their mercy - buy another item at whatever price they set and whenever they decide to sell it.
2) Be stuck with a faulty product because they have a special caveat that says that not all products are supported. This caveat is not mentioned anywhere, and you will only know about it AFTER you buy their product.
Either way, you lost your cash and seller wins.

Chronology:
1) Bought YB- 665 from seller, and found out item doesn't work with Samsung Galaxy Tab

2) Complained to seller, seller said will study on it ask their supplier and get back to me within 1 day.

3) Seller did not get back to me during agreed time and when I asked again (2nd time asking), said "Asking many times won't speed up the process". I asked how long will the alleged study take, because seller did not give a definite deadline. I asked if it's too long, I want to return the product.

4) Seller replied saying "Then I think you can take back your PowerBank already as we already try numerous times and it's working fine. Please collect at our shop . " Note that at this point it sounded like a scam because the powerbank was in my house, so what testing is the seller talking about??

5) I was angry and I wrote back asking about it, seller apologized, conveniently saying that seller confused me with another customer. Told me that I need another cable to charge it, and it is sold separately and expected to arrive next month. At this point, it began smelling like I'm dealing with an unscrupulous seller.

6) I got frustrated because I suddenly have to buy another item (a connector) to charge, something that wasn't highlighted in the seller's thread. I asked for the reason behind the need for the new connector. The seller said no idea and said the connector will be less than RM10.

7) I said I saw someone selling the connector in lowyat for RM5 and there seem to be an issue with Yoobao and the Galaxy Tab. I made a mistake of not saving that link. I also suggested that the seller should highlight it in their thread. Till date, the seller has NOT done so, which looks to me like an attempt to scam unsuspecting customers. E.g. Sell them product A, then when they're at seller's mercy, tell them there's no refund and you need buy product B too. I also asked for a definite date when the connector will arrive too as the seller has just been telling me to wait.

Note: At this point, the seller just gave a vague timeline and a date for an extra product that I have to buy from them which wasn't mentioned before.
My reply to seller:

Anyways, I like the product and I want to buy the connector, otherwise its useless to me. This is our progress so far:
1) Bought YB-665 from you
2) Doesn't work with my Galaxy tab, whatsapped you and you said will check and get back to me on Monday. You didn't.
3) Rechecked with you after that and said if no solution I want a refund. You told me u tested it at ur place, it works fine and I can take it back. I lost my cool because the device has always been with me. You said u thought I was someone else.
4) You told me there's another connector, but cannot tell me what's the price and when its coming.

I hope you realise that as a customer, this is quite a frustrating experience. At this point, I'm still patient because as a seller you're polite and you respond quickly, which can be rare in LYN. RM170 is also quite a bit of money and the powerbank is just occasionally charging my phone for now. Please understand my frustration and provide a solution for me. Thank you and have a nice weekend."

8) Seller apologized and said there were no promise on supporting all products. A diatribe by the seller then ensued of how seller shouldnt be made accountable for selling Yoobao because Samsung changed the way products are charged and because seller did not design Yoobao. Seller decided that I have been insulting and provoking them. I cannot fathom where seller got that last bit from.

9) I replied saying that:
"the onus is on you to inform customers what is supported and what it doesn't support. If you are unable to do it, you should allow the customer to test it out and if it doesn't work, either provide a refund or some other alternative. I don't think its fair to expect the customer to do a comprehensive research on the product's support list before purchasing, especially since this is just a battery. I do not share your thoughts on who should be responsible for the product not supporting certain phone/tabs. My thoughts are as mentioned above. By not stating that some devices are not supported, users are going to trust that this device charges all phones, as long as the voltage matches and current is enough. Which is exactly my case."

I also advised seller on characteristics of powerbank/power supplies because I felt that blaming Yoobao's failure on Samsung was unfounded. I do not claim to know everything that is to know about power supplies, but I do have some experience in designing power supplies for a living sometime back. To me, this was very likely a case of Yoobao being unable to produce consistent voltage and current requirements required by Samsung's circuit protection system, but this is another story altogether.

Fed up with the vagueness and unwillingness of the seller to take responsibility, commit to a date and price, I set my own conditions which were as below:
"Apologies accepted, but as a seller, I think you need to provide me some closure.
Deadline: I'm willing to wait another 2 wks or you take back my Yoobao for a full refund.
Price: If its RM8 and above, I won't be purchasing it and will return my Yoobao for a full refund. If its not a connector, but contains active-electrical components, I may still buy it; not if its too expensive.

Hope we can come to an agreement.

10) Seller did not reply or make any attempts to come to a conclusive agreement. 2wks+ later, I said will come to their shop for a refund.

11) Seller replied mocking my suggestion and made fun of me. Seller gave a hypothetical situation with the sole purpose of making fun of me, instead of coming up with a solution. The seller told me to buy all products from his shop and pay for it until I find something that satisfies me. The seller also kept talking about Galaxy Note for some reason, but I'm sure if I ask about it, they'll conveniently say "I got confused with another customer" It took all the patience in the world for me to not succumb to seller's level. I am a frustrated customer with a faux product and I really did not have the time/mood to be entertained by these things. Seller then pulled out this easter egg:
"At the box is written "for most smartphone" and not "for all smartphone"
I would like to highlight that when you go to the seller's shop, you aren't shown and cannot hold the product UNLESS it is confirmed that you've bought and paid for it. This was my experience. As for buyers who buy online, you NEVER know about this caveat before the product has been paid and delivered because the seller refuses to highlight this in their thread. So by then, it's too late for the customers.

12) I asked if this is the seller's final say and said that this has been dragging too long and I'm likely to open a dispute thread if no agreeable solution is provided. Seller now has a tendency to take their own sweet time to reply, so I asked for a prompt reply.

13) Seller told me to create one. Seller (condescendingly) also told me to include this convenient caveat:
"And please remember to attach the manual book line number four found in your PowerBank box stating" the PowerBank is compatible with most smart phones. It might not fit for some mobile phones and this situation is not included in extant and exchange conditions. "" Seller also told me that giving them a timeline and asking for refund is "arrogant" and making a joke out of myself. Does the seller expect me to just hang on at their mercy; indefinitely? If the seller decides that he'll sell the connector for RM1000, am I to buy it or just accept a RM170 lost? Seller totally insulted my intelligence and kept me at their mercy for the past month!

I am fed-up with both seller and this experience and my patience is wearing thin, especially with a seller than seem to think I'm a child to be made fun of.
I would like to return the product and ask for a refund. It is practically useless to me. The seller refuses to take responsibility so I am opening this dispute thread.
Hope this way, other customers can be aware of the seller's unethical and borderline illegal business tactics and I can get a resolution for my case.

Secret Recipe's ads are both racist and sexist in nature.
I thought that at least we're against racism here, but these ads are allowed despite them being reported. Is there a reason for this?

p/s: This post isn't meant for a discussion on how certain forms of racism or sexism should be allowed due to some skewed sense of eye-for-an-eye logic.

Something I have to add for those who think that this is a thread to discuss the validity of discrimination:

1) Human rights may be relatively non-existent in Malaysia, but doesn't mean that we have to succumb to that practice and treat others horribly because we have the power to do so.
2) Fighting for the rights of someone can be done by ANYONE. It does not mean that only a female can fight for a female, male for a male or only a Malay only for a Malay, Chinese for a Chinese, Indian only for an Indian etc. Those who tell you to only look out for your own, they're agents of a divisive policy, someone is benefitting from it and it definitely isn't you.
3) Those who complain about racial discrimination in the sectors they're discriminated against but are OK with the racial discrimination in the sectors that they have the upper hand should really re-evaluate their moral compass.

I think RWI is where discussions should be held.
I posted this thread for clarity on the racial policies of LYN, because "UNITE against racism" seem to mean something else for me.

Part-time studying in UK

Hi all,

I plan to do my part-time post-grad studying in UK in 2014. The course is 1.5 years long and I will need to find a job to sustain myself there.
Tier 4 Student Visas (only for full-time studies) and Student Visitor(maximum 6 months & working not allowed) passes do not satisfy my requirements.

Its been my dream to study in UK since I was a kid and after years of saving it looks like I can finally go, but this news is kinda frustrating.

Any suggestions/ideas on how to circumvent this barrier?
