Hi folks,

I risk having my thread kopitiamed but here goes. After spending sometime in lowyat I have that suspicion. But this article pretty much confirm it. Its a study done in 2011.

If you’re tired of hearing people say women are more desperate for love than men, you’re really going to like this news.

The team behind dating service “It’s Just Lunch” recently conducted a survey in which they asked 5,000 people what they think about on a first date. A shocking 47% of men said they’re thinking, “Could we have a relationship together?” while 50 percent of women said, “Do I want to see him again?”

In a surprising twist, it seems more men are thinking about taking things to the next level on a first date than women are, and it’s the ladies who are being decidedly more selective.

“We’re seeing that men and women are becoming more alike in their dating habits,” It’s Just Lunch spokeswoman Irene LaCota says. “And in some areas they’re beginning to trade places.”

In 2004, 79% of men took fifteen minutes or less to decide if they ever wanted to see their date again, and 64% of women took at least an hour to make up their minds about a second date. Seven years later, the same questions were asked in the 2011 study, and 55% of women said it takes them less than twenty minutes to make up their mind. Why the sudden rush? It looks like social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter might be to blame.

“Especially in today’s society, we’re so used to both demanding and getting instant information that we’ve become a bit impatient and closed off, sometimes to our detriment,” says LaCota.

How to bring in money from overseas business

Hi again folks,

While working I have been trading my own personal trading account based overseas. I trade the financial markets. However right now I would like to bring in some of my profits back to Malaysia so I can enjoy what I have earned.

In past because the amount of money was small(5k to 10K) I just have to show them my trades to prove it came from trading profits and then they will allow me to bring in the money, so far I never need to pay any tax. But right now, can I bring in a large amount of $$(6 figures) without being taxed? If not how can I reduce the tax?

We are required to pay tax?

Hi folks,

My company have been providing my accommodation, transport and membership to a gym. However when I get my EA form they add the money they pay for my extra benefit as part of my income...

So is it by law required that I pay extra tax for the benefits in kind? When I was in the O n G industry I go offshore plenty where accommodation, food and everything was paid for and they never ever put it in my EA form. Not to mention hotels I stay in on business trips.

Btw, Just for your info I am sharing an apartment with 3 other employees that got their accommodation also paid for by the company.

So again, am I really required to pay tax on benefit in kind? If not should I get a lawyer involve to fight my case?

Nando Torres a guy had 2 pages of response after 24 hours, throwaway26 a girl/woman on the other hand have 5 pages of response in about 12 hours! And many guys that responded to her(throwaway26) were throwing themselves at her hinting for a relationship while Nando Torres had no woman/girl doing that sort of thing...

I wonder are guys over represented here in Lowyat or maybe this is just how male forum frequenters react to woman online. And on the flip side are woman more passive online when it comes to seeking out love? Or are girls in real life more aggressive? (which is not the case I know)

Starting a hedge fund base in Malaysia

Hi folks,

Firstly I want to make it clear that I am not intending to start a hedge fund at all I am just asking for info. I know in places like Singapore, a certain net worth and trading track record for a good number of years is what they will look at.

But how about Malaysia? I do not know of any hedge fund here besides prop trading firms, while we have truck loads of mutual fund.. Anyone know whats the requirement and process involved?

The purpose and consequences of GST

From what I have read it is a clear conclusion to me that GST is meant for the goment to increase their tax revenue. Some may disagree citing the goment good reasons to implement it and I understand.

The world wide trend now is taxing the people more Because goments world wide are heavily indebted especially to the IMF in USD not just Malaysia btw.

So the purpose I think our goment implement GST is because of their debt and interest on debt obligations not to mention other things going on in M'sia.

Now the consequence of higher tax especially to business owners is that the majority of the population suffers. I know I know most of us have a love hate relationship with the so called RICH people. But you cant deny that they create jobs and they make our economy efficient and competitive. Do you really want the goment to run EVERY single business in Boleh Land? With their inefficiency? I think not.

So burdening rich business owners are going to make them move their business offshore or close it and migrate. And overall we the people suffer. So as a side note let us not discriminate the rich business owner.

Now of course as usual the goment don't think that far. All they think is, crap we have so much debt and interest to pay lets introduce GST with the guise of decreasing the gap between the rich and the poor..

Now please, your opinions are welcomed.

People with low CGPA makes bad employees?

Ok, lets face it, in Malaysia most high paying grad jobs requires high grades because they presumably work better. Well in my experience though I feel slightly that this is the case. However I always hear from other people that people that are good in studies are good conformist and not necessarily have good wisdom or whatever. So what are your thoughts in this? Are good academicians more reliable? more hard working? cause less problems in the office? I mean both schools have some point and are probably right in their own way? Or is it? I rather not conclude base on my short experience so I ask your opinion. Feel free to say anything that comes to mind.

PS: For the record I don't look down on people with low CGPA because it is just a measure of a certain intelligence. Done.

Woman generally can't tell good jokes

I just want to state that I am not sexist nor do I feel superior as a guy towards a girl. I see a woman partner as a companion and partner in arms. Ok done.

I have been wondering about this a long time now.

In my short 28 years of living I have noticed that I have come across just 2 girls that can tell really funny jokes while the rest f the girls I've met seems incapable of being witty or entertaining.

I have mostly only seen guys being talented in being witty and entertaining with good humor, never really girls. Folks do you have that same feeling???

If my theory is true could it be that attraction for a guy begins with the body. He is unconsciously looking for health and fitness to reproduce while females look for certain personality that will statistically mean he will be a good provider etc. Therefore man are more incline to display charm through their personalities than woman? OK I know there are holes in my argument, I am not saying its true, I am just making up a theory to discuss on why woman seems to lack to ability to produce humor.

MIT grad with C and B grades

Hi there I have a friend that just finished with mechatronics engineering degree from MIT. He didn't graduate with any honors or As in any of his final 2 years. His results is more Cs than Bs.

To the recruiters here, how much chance does he have in getting a good paying job in one of the MNCs???

In MIT apparently the passing mark is 70% and assignments are design to give students hell I wonder if recruiters here knows that....

Problem with my GF

Hi all, 1st I will intro myself a bit. I met her at work and have dated her for a few years now. I am now in a different company to her. A few months after dating she tends to get angry fast in my books. I will give an example from today since it is fresh in my mind.

I have been extra busy at work this week so I haven't been calling her every night as usual. When she call I will talk for 3-5 minute then I will say I am busy. Today she called me at work I talk to her for about 3 min and then told her I will call her latter. I forgot........ Sooooo....... at 12:30 AM she sent me an angry text message wanting to cancel our weekend date. I called her and she was fuming mad.

I mean c'mon I told her I am sorry and I will try my best in the future not to do it again, I then said please only get angry and mad as the very last resort it is not like I am trying to piss you off. Please don't have the habit of getting angry so fast, she just kept up her anger. Oh god. In the past when she gets mad, if I tell her I will talk to you tomorrow and then put down the phone she will get even more mad. Meaning she wants to talk to me when she is mad and fuming with fire...... I told her don't call or text me when you are mad at me, calm down 1st but she won't listen.

Folks, help me out here. I know my words here can be bias and may not represent her well but base on what I said is this a normal behavior for a Chinese girl?? Would you except this kind of behavior from a wife? (getting fuming mad fast and needing to flame you to cool herself down) What can I do excluding breaking up with her?? (Yes I do love her, she is my sweetheart)

I don't have a timid character so I was thinking I may not suite her well. Both of our character are more towards being outspoken....... I wish she is a docile girl......

Working condition in CEIC Data KL?

Hi all this is my first post. I am currently considering working for CEIC DATA malaysia division. I wonder if any of you here have worked or are working with them. If so would you kindly through anonymity describe the environment in that company?(are people cooperative? Kiasu?) What is the office politic there like? Are the bosses reasonable? Are they honest with their staff? What are the benefits like? What are the people there like?

Basically pros and cons too. I can only tell so much about a company from their website and an interview so I would greatly appreciate insider help.
