Work vs Holiday

I notice if /k/ is a nation, it will be either a very fast growing, or fast dropping country. Nevertheless, /k/ is a very fast news spreading section. Even 1 minute passed by, we got 'donate 1 post' or 'slowpoke'. Here, it just something to share.

We all love holidays. Who doesn't. But to enjoy holidays, we need money, thus we need to work to earn money. Most of us complains too much work, no rest where the reality that we only work less than 3 months if we compacted every working hours. Here's a small, rather rough calculation from 2011 calendar.

Let's focus on one who's working in Selangor for example. There's a total of 13 days of National holidays (should have 14 days, but Hari Raya Puasa falls on the same date as National Day) and 4 States Holidays, altogether 17 days of holidays. Let say we work for 5 days per week, so Saturdays and Sundays we count those as rest days too. Per year, that's a total of 103 days, 120 days grand total including Public and State holidays. That's only left us 245 of working days in a year. Per day, we only work for 8 hours, so it will be 1,960 of actual working hours per year, equivalent to 82 days only !

Imagine if one earning RM3,000 per month, RM36,000 per year. If rest days did not count, one actually earns RM439 per day. Imagine if there is no annual leave, any leave count as no pay leave. Hence, we loss that amount of money per day.

Or in another case, if one earning RM3,000 per month, that's around RM100 per day or RM4.17 per hour. If we were paid on an hourly-basis, we actually only earn RM33.36 per day (8 hours of working), RM8,173.20 per year.

We are lucky that we earn on monthly-basis, so we did not realize how big or how small actually we earn. Therefore we need to fully utilize our working hours. After all, it is only 1/3 of working per day, another 1/3 of personal doings, and 1/3 of sleep. Basically, it is fair. Let's be productive, our reputation at stake here as the nation goes down. Malaysia's economic growth will rise again as soon we realize this.

Hello,

I'm here to inquire something regarding company policies or R&R. I'm working in a small but rather well-known international private company located in Selangor. My boss is a foreigner but currently a Malaysian PR. Just started to work here few months ago, but after hearing lots of stories, it seems that my boss like to hold our holidays, even on public and state holidays.

For example, previously there were Nuzul Quran and Independence Day. He asked us to come to work on those days, especially Nuzul Quran because it didn't state in his calendar. Somehow we're able to defend and got our holidays. Then comes Raya, all of us cannot apply more than 2 days leave when lots of companies, including our clients close their business for more than a week due to festive holiday. Then more recent news, we were asked to come to work on the next Malaysia Day (16th September), which is the first time implemented nationwide. On top of that, we are not paid double or triple because of working on holidays. The reason is that we are an office, not manufacturing or food industry. Also, for office work, working hours 9AM-6PM. Sometimes we were questioned on why we go back on time at 6PM, why didn't stay back ? Even if we do stay back, we are not paid for OT.

My questions, is it normal for this type of company to have this type of rules ? If not, is there anything we can do ?

Brake problems for Gen2

Hi,

As title, my Gen2 got braking problems. Last month the brake pads worn out pretty bad, so I went to a workshop and replace with a new one. The brake disc got pretty bad scratch, so decided to skim it for a smoother surface for the new pads. Upon installing the left disc, it can't be pushed in due to jammed. Then serviced it nicely and replaced the jammed item with new one. Until now, braking seems 'tak makan' at all. I have to take serious distance to brake. The mechanic has warned me said that usually after skimming brake disc, it will be like that and about one week, the braking will be normal, and it has been almost 3 weeks.

Any ideas ?

Buffalo LinkStation

I'm not sure whether the right section to seek for help or not but anyway, I have a Buffalo LinkStation 500GB acting as network storage. The thing is that a component burnt, fan malfunction and a total useless. The hard disk connected via LAN and power cable.

So I open up the case, take out the hard disk and try to access it through internal PC storage, windows detected the disk but no file system so it is inaccessible. From disk management, right clicking the partition also no use, all options gray in colour except for 'Delete Volume'.

My concern is that, how can I access the hard disk ? Will not reformat it as I'm trying to get all the files inside. I tried data recovery but the files seem wrong. I think all of it are temporary files. So the current files, I think is there but how to get it ?

Astro trying to cheat ?

I just reactivate account last Saturday, and still no signal. Then I called for a technician. Yesterday when the technician came, then my astro is ok, can watch and all so burn RM 50 for nothing. Later after the technician go back, dang currently no services available. How come ? Later burn another RM 50 and what if same thing happen ?

SCSI hard disk

Morning guys,

I need help regarding a very old skool computer, the IBM IntelliStation M Pro, it is my friend's pc. Anyway, it is fully functional since 2002 I guess until recently it can't boot. After few hours trying to log into BIOS, I finally manage to do so to check the boot priority and as expected, hard disk not detected. Then I open cpu case and check the cables, reconnect and everything, still the same. The thing is, I'm not sure what type of hdd is it. It is not IDE or SATA, totally different pin. It connect to one PCI card.

Hi,

Can anyone suggest me a full set of CPU including monitor with budget of RM2~2.2k at most. Exclude keyboard, mouse and speaker.

Preferable Intel based setup, and if possible C2D at least E7300 / E7400. Otherwise, Pentium Dual Core should do just fine.

Purpose mainly for project, research using CAD or Solidwork.

I can quote myself but I left building rig part for quite some time, so I guess I need to seek some experts around here to suggest, especially on Intel part, the motherboard, which can support CPU, etc.

Asus X59SL vs BenQ R47

I'm getting a notebook next week, and after a long survey, I'm interested in these two models: Asus X59SL and BenQ R47

The specs:

The red colored ones are my main concern, although webcam is not major but 1.3mp is kinda out-dated already.

CPU is the major ones considering R47 is P-8 while X59SL is P-7. The graphic, I've Google around and found out 3470 performs slightly better in benchmarking (3DMark 05 & 06) but it ranks below 9300M GS. Gaming performance might no be any difference at all, but then I'm not so into gaming. My purpose is for 3D modeling and graphical work, and also entertainment. I have no doubt on Asus, but what about BenQ ? Some says that its pipeline is similar to Compaq, which might result to overheat issue. My heart goes to R47 specs, but reliability on Asus.

My budget is RM 3k but I've excluded HP, Compaq and Acer as they are commonly used among students.

Take a look at Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz for RM659! I've downloaded latest pricelist from Hardwarezone and all LYP shops are still selling for RM930-950. So is it a typo?

My friend went to the shop last week and ask the promoter there the same thing, is it really quad processor for RM600+? Then she said something like "Yes, that's the price. Hold on, let me check the price via online. Our online prices are the latest and updated ones." Btw shops are located at Sabah

[WTA]CE to Urban & Regional Planning

I would like to ask something since all the thread regarding Architectural, Engineering, etc has lost..

I'm studying in diploma in Civil Engineering and hopefully to further in Bachelor Degree especially in IIUM but the thing is, there's no Civil or Structural there. The nearest is Material Eng and Manufacturing Eng. But then, there's one course under Architectural & Environmental Design that attracts me which is Urban & Regional Planning. Is there any possibility?

It's not about the course, it is about how can I go to IIUM with diploma in CE. And for job in the future, I wish for consultancy, not construction and URP is something about planning and managing which is about consultancy. Hope experts out there can help me out one something

Blue Screen of Death

help me out with this stuff..

i run downloads on my computer..(utorrent, bitcomet and bitlord) and always leave it everynight and the next morning i woke up..it either hang in the middle of the night or crash (Blue Screen of Death)..last time it was 'sometimes', this time it was EVERYTIME..i know this is something to do with my hardware, is it??

1st time i bought this computer..no crash (i think so..)
then i upgraded my RAM..(then comes sometimes)
then i upgraded my RAM..again (this time everytime) it was like 2 times a day..1 time will always occur in the middle of the night..1 more probably while i'm using it (either playing games or something)

my pc hardware:
PROC: p4 1.80ghz sc478
M/B: P4266/A-823X
RAM: kingston ddr333 256MB
HDD: Maxtor 80GB

the RAM i upgraded to + ddr333 512MB = 768MB
then upgrade again to +another 512MB - 256MB = 1GB

to experts out there: any idea on how to overcome my problem??
