Mortgage Broker - Good or Bad?

Hi guys,

Went through the topic listing, didn't find anything on mortgage broker topic.

Wondering any of you have experienced engaging a mortgage broker before? As i made to understand, they are like a "one stop centre" (similar to other types of brokers) where you can engage them to get advice on current loan packages available in the market. they also will assist you in your application with any panel banks that they have tie-up with.

The pros of having to engage them are:
1) Single point of contact
2) Prompt and personal interraction
3) Ease of hastle to go from bank-to-bank to enquire for loan packages
4) Somewhat door to door service
5) No payment to them (consultants) as the lending bank would pay them

My question is, how does the charges/fees to them been accounted for by the lending banks? Is there somehow possible hidden charges that they have included into our loan, in order for them to get their cut?

Cheers!
