Self installation

How much will wooden decking cost? Will the Ikea option be better? Has anyone used teh Ikea decking? Are ther any problems with it? Any advise?

Thanks

Hi Guys,
I currently have a DC Moto Autogate which works beautifully (using since 2012). My wife now wants to change our gate. Was thinking of getting a gate which also has an auto latch (like the new DC Moto units). Are there such locks in existence?

Current system:
DC MOTO arm with old gate

New:
Existing DC Moto arm, NEW aluminium gate and latch/lock. Is this possible.

Who will be a reliable supplier of such gates with locks

Please advise.
Electricity for Guard House

Hi guys,
I am helping out with security in my area. Initially we had a small guard house so one of the residence agreed to use his house to draw electricity from his house for one Florescent Light, one fan and basic mobile charger etc etc used by the guards. Power taken from one 13 Amp plug in his house. The house owner was paid RM50/month.

Now the community y has collected some extra money and have built a bigger guard house. (with 5 fluorescent lights, one LED spotlight, one fan and basic use of the guard house. We committee is now in discussion with him to pay RM100/month. However he is worried if that one point can sustain the load of so many lights and fan. IS there anything the committee can do to ensure that this is not a risk. Are the light and fans too heavy a load for that one point? Is thr any attachment we can but to add to the plug point to help with the load? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Crow

My InCube Kitchen NIGHTMARE

Hi All,
Just wanted to highlight my experience with In Cube. We bought a house in December and were looking for someone to do our kitchen cabinets and a wooden storeroom door. My wife visited several kitchen cabinet people and finally was happy with the explanation given by one of the salesman from Incube. He was very efficient came up with drawings and my was very impressed with his energy and dedication. After a series of consultations we decided to go with Incube kitchen.

We placed the initial down payment and were informed that our installation 24/2 after CNY. So on 23rd I called to confirm with salesman, he says someone from incube would have called to confirm the date. So we said no one called, he says he will check. Then he tells me they called so no one picked up so they never called again. (this pissed me off already- with mobile phones there will definitely be a missed call in both my an my wife's phone), he then goes on to inform me that the installation would be on 28th. Later he calls and said 2/3 confirmed and asked that i pay the full amount. SO on 2 March they come to do work and the door for my storeroom door was measured wrongly so they needed to re do it. Then the dry kitchen also measured wrongly and needed to add an extra panel. The color for the dry kitchen doors that were brought were the wrong color and needed to be sent back.

Finally by storeroom door was completed on (7/3) Saturday and Wed (4/3) the kitchen was completed the wood work and the table top guy was supposed to come and measure on the same day but he never came. When i called the salesman he asks again if anyone from in Cube called. Then the same process finally the table top guy comes on Friday (6/3) evening for measurement. He was supposed to complete by the table top by Tuesday (10/3) or latest Wednesday (11/3). Finally again no one calls on Wed so i follow up and after million of stupid excuses from the salesman the date given was 14/3 Saturday for installation.

On 14/3 the installers installed and the work done was terrible. The joints had a gaps and i had to complain again to InCube. Then the salesman says yes its the table top fellows fault and will touch up again. When asked when they cannot reply. Finally the table top will be touched up 20/3 and there are still some minor adjustments to the woodwork which the salesman still cannot tell me when they will do it.

I SOOOOOOOO regret doing the kitchen with Incube it has been a very very bad experience and i just wanted to warn other potential customers to be careful and think twice.

Crow

opps forgot to add: If you choose the table top make sure they show you a big enough sample. They provide you small 1in x 1 in sample to look at but the big piece gets thr it looks totally different. in my case the sample we choose had minimum shining material but when the completed product came it looked like it was meant for a disco full of shiny stuff. But that is to a certain extent is our fault for not asking for a bigger sample of the material chosen or going to the table top factory t see a larger sample.

Hi Guys,
Just got a corner house and need to check on pricing for Armored cables to be placed underground for these lights.
I got to quotations from
1.a Bangla electrician who quoted RM560 for 40m of cabling works underground with one switch (for three lights)from the kitchen (so no requirement to break tiles or cut ceiling)
2. From Chinese electrician who quoted RM1200 with 4 core armored cable (not sure if Bangla 2 core or 4 core). He also said he will put some box on the wall and will be bringing the wires from the ceiling and with three individual switches for each light.

Are the price for the armored cable really tat expensive? I am pro the Chinese guy but because of cost issues my wife is pushing for the Bangla. WHat do you guys think and any opinions would be good.

Thanks
Suren

WD Cloud or Segate Central?

Hi Guys,
Just bought Surface Pro 3 and need to have a storage facility for my movies pix etc etc. Currently i have a Seagate 2TB (Backup Plus for Desktop). Now am thinking of buying a Cloud based storage facility for the home.

Will I be able to use the WD Cloud and expand its capacity with my Seagate 2TB? The reason i am choosing WD as it has better reviews compared to the Seagate Central. My worry is that WD might not be able to communicate with my Segate.

If i buy the Seagate Central my thots are that it will be able to communicate with the Seagate Backup Plus without any problem. Any feedback or comments will be highly appreciated.

My ultimate aim is to get 4TB of space (2TB from the Cloud and 2 TB from the existing Seagate Backup plus) all accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.

Thanks
Crow
Hi Guys,
Just want to check with the experts out there. I just installed a CCTV system in my house and activated the email notification. I initially used my personal (gmail) email address to send out the email and this caused my email to be blocked because i was sending out more than 500 email notifications. ( due to some heave insects movement at the back of my house).

So now i opened a new gmail account which now only allows for 100 emails to be sent out to prevent spamming.

Can anyone out there come up with a solution on how to handle this?

Please

Crow

Algae/Moss in Water Feature

My water feature after 2-3 weeks of cleaning collects Moss and green algae. I have a few lil fishes in there to keep the jentik jentik away but the green stuff is becoming annoying. I tried putting the bandaraya fish in but hey all died. Not sure bcoz of the water condition or killed by a neighborhood cat.

Are there any checmicals i can use to keep the green stuff away. The fish is not an important part of the feature. So if this chemical keeps the green stuff away and also the larvae( jentik jentik) then i will try it. I cannot use clorox or anything like that as it may damage the pump.

Any feedback or advise from the experts here is appreciated.

Crow

Hi Guys,
I just installed a CCTV system using Homeplugs in my house. I have 2 unit of Aztech Homeplug (500Mbs - one for a camera and one for the recorder).

Currently I have a Apple TV (ATV) which is running on wifi which is located about 6 meters from the Maxis Fibre router (10MBs). I was thinking of using a LAN cable also for the Apple TV which is located at the same location as my CCTV recorder.

My questions are:
1. Is it better for me to spend RM 80 and put another homeplug to connect to the ATV ( http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/Azte...php?prod=405437 )
or
2. Spend RM 25 and get a TP-LINK SWITCH STANDARD 5-PORT ( http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/TP,L...php?prod=369796 ) and attach it to the existing homeplug

Cost wise of course 2 is a better option. But will i be compromising on speed or will there be any other issues. Some advise would be really appreciated as i am a blur

Crow

Hi Guys,
Trying to get a CCTV system after moving in is driving me nuts. I had an installer visit my house and since i have already moved in i asked him to find me a solution where we minimize the hacking in my house. He suggested three options.
1. Hardwire POE system - Lots of indoor/outdoor hacking
2. HD IP CCTV with Home Plug - only outdoor hacking
3. A full wireless system - Unstable and with some indoor and outdoor hacking for power source

Since my priority is minimal or no hacking i am thinking of Option 2. Installer says he will come by the house with some homeplugs to check connections.

Has anyone tried this. Is it a good option?

Are there any sifu's who can explain what is the function of the homeplug? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks
crow
