Note that con persons don't care whether you are Malay, Chinese, Indian or Dan Lain Lain! As long as they can cheat you they will cheat!

LESSONS LEARNED:
To avoid being scammed, first thing: DON'T BE EASILY TEMPTED - GULLIBLE!
If the price is too low (read: SUPER CHEAP!), it's probably a scam, no matter what excuse the seller gives you.

Secondly, because the quality of fake iphone is so good now, it's near impossible for you to tell it apart from a genuine one PHYSICALLY - more so if you're a first time buyer.

In order to help fellow LYN forumers, I've decided to share some of the lessons I had learnt on how to detect a fake iPhone 6s or 6s Plus.

(1) When you first turn on a fake iPhone, the Welcome screen/page will continue to show the word 'Hello' permanently (see 4th pic below) till you manually slide the display to the next page. With a genuine iPhone, the word 'Hello' word will scroll/change to hello in various languages such as Helo, Hello, Hola, Hallo, Bonjour, (Korean hello), Ciao, etc.

(2) If you try and do a full factory reset (Settings > General > Reset), for a fake iPhone, you will notice that it doesn't have the 'Reset' option. It only had something similar (sorry I can't remember the exact wordings already). And when you click on it, the famous Android green robot will flash on the screen (refer to 3rd pic below)!!! With genuine iPhones, only the familiar and well-known white Apple logo on black background will appear.

(3) If you try and initiate the iPhone by performing the 'Slide to setup' option at the bottom of the 'Hello' page, the first item on the very next screen of a fake iPhone is Bahasa Indonesia!!! (see 5th pic below) For genuine iPhone, the first item is English, followed by: Francais, Deutsch, (Simplified Chinese), (Complex Chinese), (Japanese), Nederlands, Italiano, Espanol, (Korean) and Portuques.

(4) If you are suspicious of the seller, test him/her by asking to be allowed to take a picture of him/her (better still his/her ic!). A con person will be very uneasy with such a request!

Here are some other tips I had picked up along the way:

(A) With a fake iPhone, the App Store on the phone's virtual desktop is fake. If you tried and clicked on it, it won't bring you to the Apple's App Store site but instead to Android's Play Store!!! I'm not sure if this is true. If it is then this has to be the simplest way to identify a fake iPhone.

(B) Also, if you were able to compare the virtual keyboard with that of a genuine iPhone, you'll notice that the fake iPhone's virtual keyboard's layout and font size are slightly different, it's more like Samsung Note 5's keyboard!

(C ) To find out if it's a local set, go to: Settings > General > About. There, you will notice under item 'Model', the list should end with xxxxxMY/A. 'MY' stands for Malaysia. For a list of other countries, check here: https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/Model_Regions. As you can see in the table/list on that page, LL sets can be replacement sets from US/Canada and some sellers will such LL sets as new.

(D) If it is an overseas set, also make sure that it's not locked to a telco of that country else you won't be able to use it in Malaysia and you would have bought yourself the most expensive paperweight!!! Don't say I have not warned you!!!

(E) When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
You can check the current Activation Lock status of a device by visiting icloud.com/activationlock from any Mac or PC.
Or you can follow the steps below to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock.
If the passcode lock screen or the Home screen appears, the device hasn't been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Don't take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it's been erased.
Begin the device setup process.
After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you're asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner isn't present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Don't take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account!

(F) Compare the serial number printed on the box with the serial number of the iPhone (Settings > General > About > Serial Number). If the serial numbers are different, then the box is not the iPhone's original packaging and it maybe a refurbished set which the seller trying to pass off as new set.

BEWARE OF THIS CONGIRL!!!
Name: Pinky Gan
Handphone No: 012-9218755 (She had already disconnected this no)
LYN Forum User ID: Fhjj (but I believe she had deleted this account already)
Where she works: The Swatch Group (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd [NOTE: She had since resigned]

[attachmentid=6239051]
[attachmentid=6403266]
(Second picture screencaptured from her Viber account)

[attachmentid=5709996][attachmentid=5709851]
[attachmentid=5709873][attachmentid=5709878]
[attachmentid=6239068][attachmentid=5710085]
[attachmentid=5710103]

IF THIS POST HAD HELPED YOU, HELP FELLOW FORUM MEMBERS BY BUMPING THIS POST
.
.
.
.
.
