What are the difference between

I'm new to programming and have a simple question to ask. I notice that there are two types of compiler for C language; Linux-based gcc compiler and Windows-based compiler like Microsoft Visual C++. So, why is it that some programs cant be compiled by either of the compilers since a code in C is still a code (or is there any restriction where this code belongs to this compiler?)

I remember during my programming class during my first year that we were to write a program using gcc Linux OS which is loaded to the Windows PC. Why do we need to go through the hassle? Why dont we just run on Visual C++ or Borland?

So I have this code http://www.videolan.org/developers/x264.html where I guess I cant use Visual C++ to run. Is it possible to compile it without having to install Linux OS to my PC?

I'm sorry for the noob question but I would like to learn more. Feel free to give me more examples or links to read on.

UKM vs UM

Hi folks. I have just finished my Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Majoring in Telecommunications from MMU. I have decided to pursue my Master's Degree in one of the two universities and they already accepted me. The problem is I am still confused which one to go for as each of them has its own pros and cons. So I would welcome any suggestion from ppl who have experience.

1) UKM - This is my initial choice for doing Masters as it only requires 1 year to complete. 24 core + 12 elective = 36 credit hours to complete throughout the course. The fees is roughly around RM7k for the whole course and since it is located in Bangi, the cost of living is much cheaper too.
(Computer and Communication Engineering)

2) UM - It takes minimum 1.5 years to complete with 24 core + 18 elective = 42 credit hours. The fees is much more expensive as it costs around RM16k to complete and the cost of living will definitely be higher too.
(Telecommunication Engineering)

In terms of course structure, I'm slightly more interested in UKM course as it offers some computer-related subjects as opposed to mostly tele-related topics in UM. However, since UM is the premier U in Malaysia, will getting a Masters degree from UM be more accepted when I'm looking for job later?

Iphone or Maxis problem?

This is the problem. I am using Hotlink prepaid on my iphone, currently on 3.1.2. I have my fake APN and also manually set a random settings on the APN data settings.

But this few days, my RM25 credit got deducted out of nowhere. So i restart my phone and refake the APN settings and went to reload RM10 from Hotlink. Right after reloading, i check the balance and it is only left with RM8.14.

The question is, where has the RM2 ringgit gone within the time of less than 10 seconds?

Anyone has a clue here?

Mind to recommend me a phone?

Planning to get a new phone.

1. Brand : Any, Preferably Android Phone
2. Budget : Around RM1k, maximum RM1.2k
3. Specs. : Net surfing, gaming, good camera of 5MP would be good

I have 3 options so far :
1) HTC WildFire
2) SE X10
3) SE X8

Anyone can tell me pro and cons of these phones or maybe other phones that are within my budget?

Updating firmware

Hi, I am a noob in networking. I wish to update my firmware for my router. When I download the firmware in .zip file, it only has IMG file instead of the required .BIN file and hence, update cant be completed. What can I do about this? Thanks

Goodday all. I open this thread to clear off some of my doubts. My cousin has just completed her PMR and is now waiting for her results. She is interested in joining Sekolah Menengah Teknik as she would like to take up electrical course there. And if i am not mistaken, they still have almost the same status as other ordinary secondary schools, where they take the same subjects but only those related (Physics and Chemistry but not Biology in this case).

So my question is will she still be sitting for SPM examination just like others? Upon graduation, will she still be the same, where she can apply for Form 6, matrikulasi, Foundation, diploma, etc etc or maybe the choice is narrow down (ie, certificate and diploma only?). Hope someone who have knowledge and experience wouldnt mind sharing with me about this. Thank you~

How to boot from external DVD-rom

Ok, this is the case. My laptop internal default DVD-ROM is not working and so I bought an external slim DVD writer. Now, the problem is when i wanna format my laptop, I have no idea how to boot from this USB-external slim DVD writer. I can only choose to boot from either internal HDD, DVD-writer or on-board NIC. There is no choice for my external DVD-writer. How can I solve this? Thanks

My laptop Dell Inspiron's DVD-writer has just stop functioning. So I'm planning to get a new one. But before that, I would like to ask some questions:

1) Can I get a normal desktop DVD-writer and convert it to use with my laptop as external?
2) How is the slim external DVD-writer can be used? Can I slot it in to my laptop or I have to use it external like external HDD?
3) What is the use of lightscribe like I see many ppl are using now? Worth getting this one or normal ones?
4) Lastly, what does the number represent in the drive? E.g. 8x DVD+-RW, 20x DvD writer

Hi there, since 2 months back my DVD-ROM cannot detect any CD/VCD/DVD inserted to in. When i double click it from My Computer, it turns out that the content of it is blank, nothing inside. FYI, the model of the DVD-ROM is NEC DVD+- RW ND-6650A. Would this be the case of the lens is faulty? What should I do before the last resort, where I need to purchase a new one. If so, how much would a new one cost? Thank you

My friend sent over his Iphone saying that he accidentally locked the iphone, so I plug it into my pc using itunes but nothing was detected. Then i tried to plug in mine and to my horror, my phone got locked too. FYI, i am using v1.4. Now whenever i turn on my iphone, it was in blackscreen as if it is in cmd mode. What can i do now?
