New Buffalo 3.5" HDD problem!

Hi all,

Hoping that I can get some info on my problem with my new Buffalo Drivestation 3.5" 1TB HDD.

Just a short background, bought this Buffalo HDD (lets call this Buffalo) a few days back to transfer data from my old external 3.5" HDD (lets call this Maxtor). By default Buffalo came in FAT32 so I reformatted it to NTFS but I did so through Windows since the NTFS reformat software from Buffalo doesn't work .

The problems that I am facing are:
1) The Buffalo HDD runs fine but occationally, one will hear some "click click" sounds when the HDD is running. Is this normal for Buffalo 1TB HDDs?
2) Transfer speed is slow... sometimes its gets sooo slow that it is un-nerving! Approx 160MB takes more than 2 minute!
3) The "windows write failed" error frequently pops up with the "H://%MFT " error. This always happens when I try to transfer large files or large combination of files.

All the above are happens when I transfer data from machine A to Buffalo. But when I tried using Buffalo on machine B, problems #2 and #3 do not seem to happen. Tested once by transferring 2GB of data from machine B to Buffalo. The transfer was successful without error and it was pretty fast. Took approximately 3 minutes.

Machine specs,
Machine A: XP, 3.0GHz Hyperthreading, 1GB ram, USB 2.0, AGP ATI (older PC ~2003)
Machine B: XP, 3.0GHz Core Duo, 2GB ram, USB 2.0, PCIe Nvidia (newer PC ~2006)

What could be the cause of the problems as above? Is it a desktop problem? Maxtor problem? Buffalo problem? What can be done and how? Any info/help is appreciated!

p/s: I can't put Maxtor to machine B to do the transfer to Buffalo coz Maxtor is PATA and machine B only has SATA.

Glasses aka Spectacles

I am looking for a reliable/good shop to get a new pair of glasses. Preferably around Subang Jaya. Doesn't matter if the shop is a little further if it is really that good.

Any recommendations?

Edit: I have been advised to avoid the 'chain-shops' such as England Optical and Focus Point but if there is a particular outlet which stands out then I would give it a try.

File Access Error

Yoz...

Need some assistance here. Just got this problem out of the blue today. Whenever I move any files in my HDD, I cant seem to access them. For example, when I copy or cut a folder name "Songs" from "E:" to "E:\New Folder", I can see the folder in the new location but I can access them. The error says "Cant access file".

Any ideas?? How can I retrieve the data if possible?? Thx in advance .

Nokia N70

Yoz,

Need some advice here....

I have a Nokia N70. Was playing around with the mem-card the other day. Swapping it with another N70. After doing the swapping, I can no longer go into the menu screen. When the menu button is pressed, the screen seems to be loading but instead of going into the menu screen it jumps back to the usual screen. i believe this is the software problem? Hang? How do i fix this?

I can still make calls and receive them, can still sms, contacts and the gallery are still accessible. Went to a handphone shop (Hotlink shop to be exact) and was told that a reformat of the software was needed and it will cost RM60!!

So it comes down to this. Is reformatting the only way? I believe all the info will be lost so will need to transfer to comp? (Possible right? The phone is my mum's so...) If formatting is a must, can it be done by oneself? And is it really RM60??!!

Low Level Formatting on Fujitsu Laptop

Yoz..
Need some help here. Planning to do a low level format to wipe the HDD using DBAN. However for this Fujitsu laptop (P1510) it doesn't have build-in Floppy nor CD-Rom. Under the Boot option in the BIOS, there are only 4 options, a) Floppy, b) CD-Rom, c) HDD, d) Network Card. When I tried to boot with the external Floppy, it doesn't work. So how do I use DBAN on it?
