MALAYSIANS VSS PETROL PRICE

I was looking back at fuel prices since October 2000.

RON 97 was 1.20 and Diesel was 70.1 in Oct 2000.
RON 97 was 2.70 and Diesel was 2.58 (the highest) in June 2008
RON 95 was introduced in May 2009 at 1.75 and Diesel 1.70.
Prices went up to 2.26 in Dec 2014, Diesel 2.23.
Today RON 95 is at 2.16 and diesel 2.08.

Over the past 10 years RON95 has been averaging around RM 2.00 (Ranging from 1.70 to 2.70)and Diesel also around the same level (Ranging from 1.70 to 2.58). But every time when prices of goods go up wholesalers and retailers will almost always cite rising cost of fuel as a reason.

Crude was averaging USD100 since 2007 – 2014 except for a dip in Jan 2009 down to USD 50. Since then averaging USD45 except for Jan 2016 when it was USD 30

So really who or what is to be blamed for the rising cost of living?
