The taxi driver was a nice guy, funny guy and the taxi is toyota innova new car, fit total 6 of us, charge 1200 baht.. first impression for me is their road construction, really out of my expectation, the road is smooth and even, so eventually the ride is comfort not even bumpy. it take about 45 min to reach Patong beach.. the road from airport to patong is really special, the slope angle is freaking high! angle is higher than the genting road.. when up to the mid of the mountain there's a temple, so everyone will honk when pass by the temple for safe journey as their believe. When i reached Patong area, it impressed me, the place is so happening . we check in then walk around to get our dinner. the seafood there price not really cheap for us cause the price is around the same as in malaysia but the food potion is very less and taste sweet, nothing special. You can see the muay thai boxing promoting by show some training action on the truck. I found that the ppl in phuket their driving style is really cool and very polite, seldom heard ppl honking.. of course we go for massage since dunno wat to do. We didn't rent a bike since we not use to ride a bike on a street , so we decided to walk only.

2nd day we didn't plan much for the trip , we just bought the next day trip to phi phi island, maya bay, phi phi don included buffet lunch then last to khai island(1200baht pax).We went for ah gua show(400 baht), quite nice for me, the show is like an opera show. Lots of china tourist too... at the end of the show, those ladyboy will wait you outside , asking for photo and pay of course. After the show we massage again, cheap and nice.. recommend at Emotion massage, proper massage and nice environment. The beer and most of the grocery there are freaking cheap! cheaper than malaysia alot!

3nd day, early in the morning, took out hotel breakfast then wait for transport to pick us up to the pier for island hopping. Lots of tourist, flooded with ppl. The tour guide and crew are nice and friendly, phi phi island, maya bay, phi phi don (included buffet lunch), last khai island. we took speed boat but acutally the speed boat is not really bumpy cause i see a very old couple seems enjoy with it .... the tour is operate by the company name of Sea Angle. spend almost whole day on the island hopping then last day before our trip end, of course massage again!! the massage cost only 200 baht, this is the things that you should do in phuket. I also tried the banana pancake, at first look at it thought is like nothing special just like roti pisang only. but bought and taste it, wonderful! must try. Also the mango sticky rice at the patong street, close to Jungceylon.

4th day, nothing much we do cause out flight is at the evening, so we bought alot of local product and snack from Big C Hypermarket in Jungceylon.
Overall of the trip is , this is the place which will kill me slowly, cause everyday tom yam seafood, night beer, beer and beer cause freaking cheap! A place i will definately will go again!

QUOTE(mixologist84 @ Nov 23 2012, 11:28 PM)

Hi Guys,

I am back from the Phuket Trip, now here is my turn to contribute back to thread that helped me plan my trip.

We planned and booked the flight ticket and rooms late August. Off course we did a lot of reading online on where to stay what to do and what not from various blogs, trip advisor and also from Lowyat Forum.

We stayed in Patong, Sawatdirak road, it was 3 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes to Jungceylon and Bangla road. We got around by renting a scooter. It cost us 200 bahts per day. All the price stated here are for peak period, so do bargain when you are goingoff peak and do not pay anything more than what is indicated here.

So this is how we spent 4 night and 5 days in Phuket .

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Day - 1

Reached airport around 10 pm. Took a limo from airport to Patong, initial charges was 650 bahts, but i negotiated from 600 and promised to use his service when I'm coming back to airport fro Patong. on the way we stopped a t a tour agent office where the tour agent tries to sell us tour packages which we politely declined by saying we had prior arrangement. Checked in hotel, freshen up, and went to Soi Bangla, had pizza in an Italian restaurant (wasnt any better) and i was shocked to see the nightlife there ! pole dancers everywhere , girls by the road side pulling you to come in to the bar they work for and Russian strip clubs!!!, We didnt stop by any bar, just walked around and went back to hotel. Stop by for foot massage before hotel , it was 250 because its in Sawatdirak road.

Day – 2

Went to survey tour packages and scooter rental, some was charging up to 350 bahts per day, but i manage to find a tour agent that gave me for 200 bahts per day, and i promised i will book the tour with him, which i did later that evening. I took Phanga Bay with Long tail boat and Phi Phi with Speed boat. After that went to Junceylon, shopped, went to Patong Shooting range, it was expensive and the staff’s were rude and kept pushing us to buy things we did not need. If you want to pictures of you while shooting, its an additional 300 bahts and also additional 30 bahts for the target paper, the only plus point is you may bring back a few of the shells that you have shot. Went to Kata beach, it has less people there and very less human traffic, weather seems to be cooler as well . Then we came back to Jungceylon to go for the 4D movie ride, which was waste of money, wouldn't recommend it to you. Went for shooting again in Jungceylon, its much cheaper, the staff are more professional and the is no hidden charges, pics are allowed but you cant bring back any shells. Went for Dinner at Tim's Restaurant along Patong Beach in Thwaweewong Road, and then i was curious about ping pong show, so we ended up in of the bar there that had ping pong show. i would want to go back there again , neither would i recommend anyone to go. The entrance is free, but you must buy one drink at least per person and the cheapest drink was a bottle of beer at a whopping 900 baths. After paying the waitress was hesitant to give me back the change of 200 bahts, she pointed at the bar and then to other waitress and said tip for us, i gave reluctantly. i stayed there for a little more than 30 mins and left with much disappointment. The show went something like this, you will see 4-5 topless girls dancing and pulling participants to join them for some dance and stuff. that will go on for 10-15 mins, then comes a the lady who will be performing, she look late 30, first she started by shooting darts at inflated balloons. Once her slot was done she will walk around collecting tips, if you dont tip her, she will stand beside you and stare at you. The topless girls comes again with another 10 mins of dancing before the performer comes out again, this time she pulls out 4-5 meter of ribbons, then she disappeared for a couple of minutes before returning to the stage, then she pulled out another 4-5 meter of string but with needles, then she goes missing for another couple of minutes, she came back and pulled out a bird, a small one. Note that she is wearing a 1 piece lingerie that looks like a mini night gown that covers up to a little below her hips, so you cant really see where is she pulling all these things from i suspect there is a hidden pocket in her dress or something like that. Again she came walking around asking for tips, i had to give her again. Than topless girls came dancing, and after 5 mins the performer came and did the ping pong show and then again the darts show, it seemed repetitive so we left, i also overheard from a couple of guys from next table this the saw the performer in another bar nearby earlier. We ended the day with massage and back to hotel.

Day - 3

Went to Kammala early in the morning by scooter as the pickup to Phanga Bay was only at 9.30. Nice quiet beach, such an eye candy, especially in the morning. Returned the scooter (do return the scooter on time or there is a late penalty). We were picked in a van, (11 seater and it had 11 passengers excluding driver). The drive was 90 minutes to Kasom Pier. We stopped by Suwankuha Temple (also known as Monkey cave, with reclining Buddha and huge amazing stalagmites and stalactites. Our first destination by long tail boat from Kasom pier is to Koh Panyee and we stopped by for lunch. Koh Panyee is a Muslim fishing village with about 1500 people living. No alcohol is available here, after lunch we walked around in the floating village, there is many souvenir shops here.Next stop was Phanga Bay, the place that we stopped is known as Khao Ping Gun is the front part of the island, a couple of minutes of walk will bring you to the solo erected limestone which is at the back of the small island. You can take a dip here too if you wish. Final stop was in Talu Island where we went for sea canoeing, off course there was a guy how was rowing the canoe and not us. The natural sea caves is beyond words, there are certain places where you have to lie flat as the cave ceiling is very low. Do check out the video posted for the experience. We reached Kasom pier and then transfer back to hotel. The journey back from Kasom pier was a little more than 2 hours as we got stuck in rush hours traffic. Upon reaching Hotel, we showered and went out to hunt for food, had dinner in a place along Rat U Thit , then headed for massage in a place called Emotion, i wanted to try Thai massage for 200 bahts, little did i know its gonna be painful, i got hammered kicked and punched by a lady half my size, she was standing on top of me for a good 45 minutes. It was too painful after that so i went to another massage place for oil massage, it was much much better. Wife went for mani and pedi, for 400 bahts. We went to Sai Nam yen road where there are some bazaar and found some alleys where the local have their street food, we were afraid to try them but int the process we found a wholesale silk shop, we got a few pillow case for 100 bahts each and table clothes for 250 bahts, both pure silk off course. Then we called it a day and hit the sack
Day - 4

Pick up was at 7.45, the journey to Asia Marina pier was about 45 minutes, but we reached the pier by 8.20, we had to wait til 9 for the other tour participants to arrive. There are coffee and biscuits served. While waiting the tour operator briefed us about the places that we are going to visit, he also told us its recommended to rent flipper at 100 bahts and to buy bread for 40 bahts to feed the fish and monkey. The first stop was at Khai Island, it has very less people, the water was crystal clear and i swam alongside fishes!, i also saw a fish that looked like a mini sword fish but it isn't actually a sword fish, look at the video clip below, you can catch a glimpse of the fella, also you can see how close am i from the fishies. Take note that you will need to pay 100 bahts for one beach chair or 150 for 2 beach chair if you were to use one. Unless you wanna go home with a super tan, i suggest you rent a beach chair as it comes with an umbrella. We spent about 90 mins here before heading to Sam Had for snorkelling. Don't miss the chance to snorkel here, even if you cant swim or not good at snorkelling, just jump! the life vest will keep you afloat. Next stop is at monkey beach, we did not get down but just stopped by for photo before heading to Phi Phi Don Island. We had lunch in Phi Phi Don island, the food sucked honestly, and we only had 45 minutes for lunch, just not enough time to have lunch. Right after lunch next stop is around Phi Phi Lay, again it was just stop by for photo . the viking cave was beautiful, it has some painting in the wall, not sure how old thou. Also you can see quite some birds nest, if I'm not mistaken, these are swiftlets. Next stop is a couple of what that resemble a mini gulf which is pretty hidden around Pileh Lagoon. Final stop will be in Maya Bay, this is where the movie “ The Beach” was filmed. Its a small but very beautiful beach. If you take a 10 minutes walk from Maya Bay to the back of the island, you will reach Loh Samah Bay, another beautiful bay with a mini limestone mountain. Then it was back to Asia Marina Pier, the journey fom Maya Bay was about 90 minutes. Then 45 minutes from Asia Marina pier to Patong. Since it was our last night in Patong , we walked all the way from Phra Barami road, to Prachanukhro road. it took us about 2 hours to complete the circle, then it was dinner in Restaurant No.6 along Rat U Thit. I would highly recommend you to go there the food is great and the price is very reasonable compared to the dinner we had for the last 3 nights, i should have came here earlier. The food was served not too long from the time we ordered even thought it was full house. Then it was foot massage as usual before ending the day,

Day – 5

Slept till late, woke up at 11, breakfast was over so had to look for brunch, went to a “La Boucharie” semi fine dining restaurant for lunch , i had lamb rack and wife had pasta, it was half as good as what we get here in Malaysia, so let me remind you, DO NOT try other cuisine than Thai food / seafood, its not worth the money. Rented scooter ( at the same place we booked the tour and rented scooter the first day). Managed to negotiate and pay only 150 bahts as we will only use the scooter for 6 hours. Went to Jungceylon and shopped, just rode around Patong, stopped at a few souvenir shops. My wife wasn't feeling that well, so had to go the clinic, the consultation fee alone is 500 bahts, medicine was charged separately. Then we headed back to hotel, While we had still a couple of hours to kill before airport transfer, we just walked across the street and got a tattoo, yeap, its that random.. lol. it took us less than 30 mins to get mine. the it was back to KL.

Day 6 – Now

Not enough of Phuket, i feel that my trip was too short, i wanna go back to Phuket, wait no, i wanna migrate to Phuket!

Price indication (in bahts)
200 Foot Masage
200 for Traditional Thai Massage
200 for Manicure or Pedicure
300 For Oil Massage
300 For back And Shoulder Massgae
Taxi from Airport to Patong 600
Phi Phi Island trip by Speedboat 1100
Phi Phi Island trip by Big Boat 800
James Bond trip by Speedboat 1000
James Bond trip by Longtail Boat 800
Bike rental is 200 for 24 hours. petrol is by you.
1 piece suit pants shirt and tie is 3000. Armani or Versace starts at 4500
Tattoos are priced at 1400 onwards
Laundry service available for 50 bahts per kilo ( along roadside)
Petrol is sold in Rum/Vodka 40 bahts for somewhat of 500-650ml of petrol.
Snorkelling Kit starts at 250 bahts
waterproof bag is priced at 230 bahts for 5 litre size.

Tips
-Do not bother bother booking any trips from here, its much much cheaper when you book directly from tour agents in Phuket, don't worry, you are sure to find one every couple of hundred of metres.
-Both Micro sim and normal sim is available for free in the airport, it comes with 7 baths credit, which is enough for you to call Malaysia and say “Hello”
-Speed Boats are super bumpy, you can easily be seasick, long tail boat is the not as fast as speed boat and its not bumpy at all. Big boat is the slowest of all but it has locker for you to store your personal stuff.
-The lunch package in island hopping tours are just simple stuff, its not something that you will pay to eat.
-Try to go for Similan tour as i heard that the island has lesser human traffic
-Spend a night in Phi Phi, a friends just got back from 4 nights trip t Phi Phi, she said it was heaven!
-Pick a massage place and go back there again instead of going to random massage place, you might get a discount.
-While doing island hopping you don't need to bring any change of clothes, or even towel, as the sea breeze will dry you on the boat. Just bring some cash and camera (i would suggest less than 500 bahts per person, its enough for drink, snacks and also ice cream).
-When you rent a scooter , you will need to return the scooter with the same level of petrol level as the time you took it.

Must do

-Massage, most of them are decent, go to the ones that the workers has uniforms. Go to Emotions at Rat U Thit as the price is reasonable and clean
-Rent a bike to go around Phuket as its much cheaper
-Try banana pancake. 40 for normal filling 50 for special filling like nutella / egg / berries
-Buy Thai silk, its cheap here
-Go to Kammala, Kata or Karon, less human traffic in these places compared to Patong
-Buy t-shirt from Rat U Thit. 100 for S,M and L 120 for XL and 150 for XXL. Buy 10 free 1.
-Eat at restaurant No 6. in Rat U Thit as the price is reasonable and the taste is good
-Shop at Big C supermarket or Tesco, you’ll be surprised to see what you can find.
-Get a tattoo, its clean, just keep a lookout when they change the needle.
-Sun block is a must! unless you wanna shed your skin like a snake

Dont bother to

-Sexy show/ping pong show – its a rip off
-Fantasea – maybe kids will enjoy it
-Shooting range in Kathu or Patong , its over priced go to jungceylon instead.
-3d theatre in Jungceylon. Its 250 per person.
-Tuk Tuk is overpriced. Don't bother unless you have never rode a tuk tuk before
-Don't bother trying any other cuisine, you have had better ones in Malaysia.
-All the taxi / tuk tuk / limo will stop in a tour agents’swhen fetching you from airport to hotel, do not buy any packages from them, it will cost you 2 times more than what you can get in Patong.
-During Phi Phi island tour, the snorkelling goggles are free, but note that 10 million and fifty seven people have had their salive and tongue in them before you ( so you better buy one yourself), the tour operator will recommend you to rent the flipper for 100 bahts per pair, they will say that there are sea urchin in the place that you snorkel, but upon checking with locals, there are no such cases.
More details can be found Here. I have added some pics and video clips (work in progress, still uploading pics

QUOTE(willchua @ Oct 22 2012, 11:51 AM)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Transport
Taxi Counter cost 650baht to Patong. Best rent at your own hotel or walking distance from hotel. They will ask for passport for keeping but insist they only get photocopy. No deposit required.

Car Rental
Rent for 1500baht for Honda Jazz(900baht) + GPS(100baht) + delivery(500baht) from their office from airport area to Patong. Return the car at Airport. Paid extra insurance(150baht - optional) to reduce accident responsibility from 10000baht to 2000baht. GPS very accurate, wont get lost. Get the car in full tank petrol, return car in full tank also. No need passport photocopy, but need credit card (they just use the old style credit card carbon copy to get your credit card no, they will return to u when return car). Paid full when return car.
(You can get car at Patong and return car to Patong, but you will need to get taxi(650baht - 800baht) to return to airport, which is almost equivalent or a bit higher by 150-300baht)

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Oct 17 2012, 12:36 AM)

Just back from Phuket.

Make long story short:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Airport transfer:
To Hotel:
Minibus - THB150 per person (but be informed that they will send you to their shop first to check your ticket/location - and they will sell you tour packages too. Personal experience: their packages are decent if you nego it the right way although we didn't take it)

To Airport:
Luxury van (?) from Hotel - THB1000 (for 4 persons). We knew it was expensive but our group just like to play safe.
Activities:
Phi-Phi Island + Fantasea (show only) + 1/2 Day city tour (FOC) + Hotel transfer via Minibus (FOC) = THB3000 per pax

ATV - mini jungle + Big Buddha (60 mins) + Elephant trekking (30 mins) + transfer = THB1300 per pax

Bangla Road show = lowest we got was THB15 per drink, THB20 was the common bottom they could offer. Tips: go for show with a lot of guests otherwise they will not perform if your group is the only one available (unless your tips is good

Shooting - ranging from THB800 for 10 bullets, even available inside Jungcelyon

Massage - we only went to the ones nearby our hotel (Palmyre Patong) = THB200 per hour for Thai/Oil/Foot - which was the lowest we could find. Others were offering THB250- 300.
Food:
No: 6 - decent food with affordable price. It's very well known among the tourist and even my tour guide recommends it! Taste-wise, it's above average.

Pancake (we tried Nuttella banana and Nuttella coconut) is everywhere! Try some!

McD Samurai Pork Burger was a disappointment with its high price tag

Pad Thai is also everywhere with THB50 to start off.
Tips:
get a hotel nearby Bangla road or Jungcelyon area
get ready with tips (I'm still not very sure how much tips is considered "just nice")
try to find your way to Banzaan Market's night market for some local pasar-malam food (behind Banzaan Market)
beer was slightly cheaper (Chang Beer in 7-11 was around THB280 per can)
alcohol is not for sale after 12:00am (I'm puzzled why they put it as 12:00pm on the notice
That's all I can think of.
