GTX 660m crash while gaming

I just bought Lenovo Laptop Ideapad y580 couple days ago via PC fair and started to have problems whenever I started gaming.

After a few minutes of gameplay, the driver will suddenly stop and restart itself causing the game to freeze in place. This problem will keep occurring and it is becoming really irritating. When the game freezes, the only way to make it run again is ALT CTRL DELETE to force the game to minimize and restoring it but within few minutes the driver crashed again. Even though when the game miraculously runs fine without crashing for 5 minutes, pixels of different colors can be seen popping up randomly around the screen.

I already tried updating the driver to the latest version which is 306.97, tried tweaking the Nvidia control panel, and power management but no avail. Tried few different games (Dishonored, League of Legends, Crysis 2 and etc etc) also same thing happens no matter how demanding the graphics are unless the games are run with integrated graphics.

However the integrated graphics HD 4000 running fine without problems.

The following are the specs of the laptop:

Core: i7-3630

Memory: 12 gb

OS: Windows 8 64bit

Graphics Card: GTX 660m (Driver version 306.97)

Is the problem lies within the driver? Or is it the hardware that's the problem? Please help. If needed more information I will gladly provide it as detailed as I can.
