KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei has died, according to Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The economic affairs minister announced the PKR representative’s death on Twitter this morning.

“Al fatihah. I am deeply saddened over the loss of a true comrade. May the soul of the late Shuhaimi Shafiei be placed in heaven with Allah’s graces,” he wrote.

Shuhaimi had once been Azmin’s political secretary.

According to party sources, he had been suffering from stage four lymphoma.

His death will trigger a by-election in Sungai Kadis, the country’s first since the general election.

In the 14th general election, Shuhaimi won the seat by a landslide with a 12,480-vote majority over second-placed Kamaruzzaman Johari from Barisan Nasional in a four-cornered fight.

MalayMail

I got goosebumps after watching this wei.... dance nice....

Tomioka High School in Osaka Prefecture get backing from Warner Music and 20th Century Fox for latest video.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Last year a dance club from Tomioka High School in Osaka Prefecture gained worldwide fame for their ’80s themed Bubbly Dance. Although it only won second place in the competition it was designed for, little did the girls know that it was about to open some really big doors for them.

On 16 January, Warner Music Japan posted the Tomioka High School Dance Club’s follow-up video featuring all of the girls – 72 to be exact – dancing to the theme song for the Hugh Jackman musical The Greatest Showman, which doesn’t come out here in Japan until 16 February.

Since the performers are all high school students, the entire video from concept to creation had to be done around their already hectic Japanese curriculum. For one month during winter vacation, the girls learned all of their extremely synchronized moves through rigorous training.

Then a 12-hour shoot that began at 6:30 a.m. in a neighboring prefecture’s high school was held involving drone cameras, tracking shots, and all the other trappings of a major production.

The result is great but the only setback is that all of the quick edits kind of diminish the pure talent of the dancers that could be seen in the audience-filmed videos of their Bubbly Dance. But hey, this is just me speaking…

You see, because that’s the name of the…song, ahem.

Anyway, much like Hugh Jackman’s P.T. Barnum, these girls are skyrocketing from mere students to major entertainers overnight, so it’s a fitting combination. Perhaps in the same way our own resident pole-dancer Mr. Sato can do some writhing around to promote Alien: Covenant on Blu-Ray.

Firebombing of Tokyo 1945 (Updated with pic)

Last weekend nothing to do then watch pearl harbor movie on astro then get interested in the history of ww2. Then google google a bit and found this. Seem like this incident less likely to be remembered compare with the atom bomb drop at hiroshima and nagasaki. It is the single most deadly bombing raid in history. Last 48 hours. Three hundred B29 bombers dropped nearly 500,000 cylinders of napalm and petroleum jelly on the most densely populated areas of Tokyo. Estimated death 100,000. Japan target Pearl Harbor by attacking their airfield n shipyard of course there are some civilian area but this firebombing of tokyo seem mostly target civilian area. Anyway, what impressed me is that after 70 years+ now. Look at them, one of the economy powerhouse. Building up a country from scrap. I guess in order for a country to become advance, they must go through a period of very dark moment. 50 years from now i think iraq n syria will be good.

QUOTE

On this day, U.S. warplanes launch a new bombing offensive against Japan, dropping 2,000 tons of incendiary bombs on Tokyo over the course of the next 48 hours. Almost 16 square miles in and around the Japanese capital were incinerated, and between 80,000 and 130,000 Japanese civilians were killed in the worst single firestorm in recorded history.

Early on March 9, Air Force crews met on the Mariana Islands of Tinian and Saipan for a military briefing. They were planning a low-level bombing attack on Tokyo that would begin that evening, but with a twist: Their planes would be stripped of all guns except for the tail turret. The decrease in weight would increase the speed of each Superfortress bomber-and would also increase its bomb load capacity by 65 percent, making each plane able to carry more than seven tons. Speed would be crucial, and the crews were warned that if they were shot down, all haste was to be made for the water, which would increase their chances of being picked up by American rescue crews. Should they land within Japanese territory, they could only expect the very worst treatment by civilians, as the mission that night was going to entail the deaths of tens of thousands of those very same civilians. “You’re going to deliver the biggest firecracker the Japanese have ever seen,” said U.S. Gen. Curtis LeMay.

The cluster bombing of the downtown Tokyo suburb of Shitamachi had been approved only a few hours earlier. Shitamachi was composed of roughly 750,000 people living in cramped quarters in wooden-frame buildings. Setting ablaze this “paper city” was a kind of experiment in the effects of firebombing; it would also destroy the light industries, called “shadow factories,” that produced prefabricated war materials destined for Japanese aircraft factories.

The denizens of Shitamachi never had a chance of defending themselves. Their fire brigades were hopelessly undermanned, poorly trained, and poorly equipped. At 5:34 p.m., Superfortress B-29 bombers took off from Saipan and Tinian, reaching their target at 12:15 a.m. on March 10. Three hundred and thirty-four bombers, flying at a mere 500 feet, dropped their loads, creating a giant bonfire fanned by 30-knot winds that helped raze Shitamachi and spread the flames throughout Tokyo. Masses of panicked and terrified Japanese civilians scrambled to escape the inferno, most unsuccessfully. The human carnage was so great that the blood-red mists and stench of burning flesh that wafted up sickened the bomber pilots, forcing them to grab oxygen masks to keep from vomiting.

The raid lasted slightly longer than three hours. “In the black Sumida River, countless bodies were floating, clothed bodies, naked bodies, all black as charcoal. It was unreal,” recorded one doctor at the scene. Only 243 American airmen were lost-considered acceptable losses.

Pic of after the bombing and now

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

now

now

now

now

'New version' of BN needed

MONDAY, MAY 06, 2013 - 06:40

by Haresh Deol Location: PETALING JAYA

THERE has got to be a new version of Barisan Nasional (BN) if the collation party plans to further win the hearts of the voters in the next general election.

Those were the words of former deputy higher learning minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah after losing the Temerloh parliamentary seat to PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan. Nasrudin obtained 28,267 votes while Saifuddin garnered 27,197 votes.

“What is talked about on social media is real. However, the impact of social media is only in certain areas,” said Saifuddin.

“BN won in rural and predominantly Malay areas.

For the next general election, BN has got to plan to win the popular votes … something I have pointed out for a long time.

“We’re lucky to still be in government, at the Federal level. To strengthen our position we need to re-brand, there needs to be a new BN."

Saifuddin admitted he was shocked with his defeat to Nasrudin, describing it as the "Chinese tsunami".

“I know I won most, if not all, of the Malay areas but when it came to the Chinese areas, I lost big time. It was unexpected. I call it the Chinese tsunami.

“I don’t know what’s next for me. I guess it’s back to my business ventures and writing.”

He is, however, still ready to serve BN.

“I’m not going anywhere and I’m ever ready to help if required,” he said.
