Best tablet for father, and for me

1. For father
What would be a good choice of tablet for my father who just wants to surf the net for news and video? Size and weight does matter a bit -- it would be hard to him to squint on a small screen.

I am thinking between the following:

Samsung 10.1
Samsung 8.9
iPad 2

What do you guys think?

2. For me
For me, I'm looking for lightweight, power, and would be able to last a few years before it is "outdated". I know, i know, technology goes by very fast, so it would be nice to get the best at today's market.

I am thinking about Samsung 7.7. Is it too outdated already?
