That day went JPJ Petaling Jaya on Monday to perform change car ownership.

- Reached JPJ around 7am to scan the QR code ambil nombor.
- Lepak around JPJ car park and then Taman Jaya LRT station since JPJ open at 8AM.
- Realized that no shop nearby open for breakfast.
- 8AM JPJ buka, sit inside for around 30 mins tunggu giliran.
- Whole process done in less than 5 mins with both buyer and seller present for the ownership transfer, buyer get new road tax and car geran on the spot.

JPJ now really fast and efficient. Kudos!

TM Unifi is offering 2Gbps fibre broadband very soon, but how much will it cost?

Almost six months after Time rolled out Malaysia’s first 2Gbps home fibre broadband plan, it looks like Telekom Malaysia ™ is finally responding with a new ultra-high-speed broadband offering. A page has appeared on Unifi’s website hinting at the arrival of its upcoming 2Gbps fibre broadband plan. Finally, subscribers will soon be able to enjoy speeds beyond 800Mbps on TM’s fibre network.

There are no details of the plan yet but if you’re interested, you can register your interest online by dropping your name, email, phone number and postcode. After submission, it is mentioned that you will be contacted in 14 days, which could indicate that the plan will be available sometime next month.

The biggest question many would ask is the price of the 2Gbps subscription. TM’s highest Unifi home fibre broadband offering right now is 800Mbps at RM299/month. As a comparison, Time’s 1Gbps plan is currently going for RM199/month while the 2Gbps option is going for RM379/month.

Looking at the industry norm, you can expect TM’s new 2Gbps fibre broadband plan to cost about double of their current 800Mbps offering, so you could be looking at around RM400/month. The monthly commitment would be even higher if you choose to include other services such as Unifi TV, Unifi Mobile or even device add-ons like the Sony PS5. Hopefully, TM will price their new 2Gbps below our expectations following the updated Mandatory Standard of Access Pricing.

For TM to offer 2Gbps, they would need to deploy 10G PON technology. Similar to Time, we expect the availability of the highest 2Gbps option to be rolled out in stages, so not everyone will be able to sign up on day one.

I was looking for a workstation or entry server which support ECC RAM and able to fit in at least two 3.5" hard disk drives.
Main usage for this server will be a private cloud storage, with some other minor roles such as web hosting.
For private cloud storage, RAID1 is part of a requirement, and therefore the server casing must be able to fit at least two 3.5" hard disk drives.

This Lenovo ThinkStation P360 Tower suits my needs well. It runs on Intel desktop CPU but with ECC RAM support thanks to W680 chipset.
For the hardware configuration, I tried to make this machine as much future upgrade room as possible, while keeping the cost affordable for myself.

This machine will not be intended to run intensive tasks most of the time, and also there will be no graphics load needed at this time.
Therefore only one stick of RAM and no dedicated graphics card is configured.
On the other side, a power supply rating of 750W is selected to anticipate future upgrade or add-ons.
The Flex Bay is configured as an empty 3.5" HDD enclosure, so that the 2nd hard disk drive can be slotted in.

Connecting 3.5" SATA Hard Disk Drives

According to the specification, P360 Tower is able to fit in up to 2x 3.5" SATA HDD or 4x 2.5" SATA HDD.
If you would like to install two 3.5" HDD on your own, you might want to add additional empty 3.5" HDD enclosure under Flex Bay option during your purchase.

For the current setup, two WD Red Plus 4TB are installed into the tower, one installed inside the enclosure on the Flex Bay, and the other one installed in the enclosure at the bottom of the tower.
Due to the design and the location of the bottom enclosure, the HDD has to be installed up side down, this is to ease the connection of both SATA cable and SATA power cable.
To install 3.5" HDD into the bottom HDD enclosure, first the front panel has to be removed, so that the black colour bracket inside the enclosure can be taken out.
No screw is needed to install the 3.5" HDD, which is very convenient.

Both SATA signalling cables and SATA power cables are provided inside the box.
The power for the SATA HDD are to be tapped from the motherboard rather than from the PSU, similar to ATX12VO design.

Dashcam Operation:

To power up this dashcam properly, it is a must to use the hardwire kit provided.
Note: Although the power supply connector is a micro USB connector, if you power up this dashcam by using a regular charger or power bank, the dashcam will only work in parking mode.

The very first time you powered up this dashcam, the dashcam will prompt you to scan a QR code on the screen.
The default dashcam language will be in Chinese, but can be changed to English later after the device is activated.

The QR code will bring you to download a phone app called "Hikdashcam" if you scan using mobile phone.
The phone app default language is in English.

Proceed to "Add Device" in the "HikDashcam" app, the app will prompt you to connect to the dashcam's WiFi network with a default password.
The app will then force you to change the default WiFi password.
The last step for the first time setup is to activate the dashcam, simply press "Activate" when prompted.

While the app is connected to the dashcam via WiFi, the dashcam screen functionality is not accessible until you press "Cut" button on the dashcam screen to disconnect the device from the app, or simply exit the app.

To access the dashcam setting page on the device itself:
1. Tap the dashcam screen once, there will be two arrows showing on both left side and right side of the screen.
2. Swipe the screen from right to left.

The dashcam firmware can be updated over the air (OTA) via the app.
The firmware version out of the box is version 1.0.6, and the latest version updated at the time of writing is version 1.0.8.
The firmware file is around 60MB+, there are two methods that the firmware can be downloaded and installed:
1. When the phone is connected to both the cellular data and the dashcam via WiFi at the same time, the OTA update can be done via the cellular data and then uploaded to the dashcam.
2. When the phone does not connect to any cellular data, OTA update is done through two steps process. The app will download the firmware using your home WiFi, and then prompt you to connect to the dashcam to complete the update process.

User can choose what the standby screen to do:
1. Clock display (Display time in 24 hour format, day, and date)
2. Live footage feed
3. Screen off

For the voice command feature, I only get used it once.
I spoke the "Snapshot" command in Mandarin, and I heard the snap sound from the dashcam, so I guess it works.

Voice prompt are available for the following actions:
1. Parking mode recording entry
2. Parking mode recording exit
3. ADAS - Green light occurred
4. ADAS - Front vehicle moved
5. ADAS - Speed limit sign recognition

However, there is no voice prompt when the GPS coordinate is locked.

Date and time on the dashcam will be automatically obtained via GPS.

For ADAS operation, each feature has it own hit rate between day time and night time.
Here is my observation during the testing of this dashcam:

Dashcam Recording:

Recording resolution for the front is adjustable, from 1080P @ 25 FPS to 2160P @ 30 FPS.
Recording resolution for the rear is fixed at 1080P @ 25 FPS.

HDR is enabled by default, and not able to turn off as of now.

Audio recording is can be enabled or disabled in the settings.

The internal eMMC with 64 GB storage will be utilized first, external SD card comes next.

This dashcam supports several recording modes:
1. Continuous recording
2. Parking recording
3. Event recording
4. Picture snapshot

For continuous recording, Hikvision took a different approach than other dashcam manufacturers, or they rather inherit what has been done in their CCTV recording method.

The dashcam raw footage files do not have a fixed video duration.
Each file has different file size, but the maximum file size looks to be no more than 256 MB each.

When the captured video footage uses a higher bitrate, the video duration for that file will be shorter.
Or when then captured video footage uses lower resolution, the video duration for that file will be longer.

With this kind of footage storage implementation, it is troublesome to obtain the matching timeline front and rear footage raw footage.

However, it is not recommended to copy the raw footage directly from this dashcam.

Picture capture/snapshot can be triggered by either issuing voice command or using Bluetooth switch.

I do not have the opportunity to try out parking mode recording, so cannot comment on this feature.

Extracting the footages:

To properly extract the footages from this dashcam, there are three ways:
1. Connect phone app to the dashcam using WiFi, and extract the footages using the app.
2. Connect dashcam to Windows PC using the mini USB cable provided, in this case only footages in eMMC will be visible, use the Windows app provided called "Mini Player" to search and export the footages.
3. Eject the micro SD card from the dashcam and slot it in Windows PC, only footages stored in SD Card will be visible, use the Windows app provided called "Mini Player" to search and export the footages.

One good thing about using the "HikDashcam" phone app to extract video footage, is that, if the footage you wanted is stored in two different files, the app will merge the video for you.

By using the phone app for the playback, you can view the video footage along with the GPS movement on the map on the same screen.

If you decided to view the footages in Windows PC, a Windows app executable called "Mini Player" is provided.

By default, the MiniPlayer app interface is in Chinese language, you can change the language to English.

The export window allow you to search the footages according to date, time, and recording type.
Unfortunately MiniPlayer does not offer video merging feature as found in the "HikDashcam" app.

Two things that this MiniPlayer app needed improvement:
1. Allow app window resize
2. Allow column length adjustment

Final thought:
- Front 4K footage is clear, but maybe due to HDR enabled, the image sharpness decreased.
- Rear camera unit angle adjustment requires to screw and unscrew action.
- I personally like the hardwire kit design, but the fuse rating on the hardwire kit is not known.
- Powering up the dashcam in normal operation mode required the use of hardwire kit provided.
- English language on dashcam interface, phone app, and Windows player app can be more fine tuned.
- Hope to see more ADAS features to be added in the future.
- Hope to see internal microphone sensitivity can be adjusted in setting page.
- Hope to see an option in setting page to turn on or off HDR.

DuitNow To Link With Singapore’s PayNow In 2022 For Seamless Cross-Border Payments

Malaysians and Singaporeans will soon be able to transfer money to each other using just a mobile number. This is due to the linkage between DuitNow and PayNow real-time payment systems that will take place in 2022.

According to the joint announcement by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the linkage will allow for more seamless payments between both countries which BNM said has recorded RM 4.2 billion of remittances in 2020. The implementation will be done in a phased manner, starting from the fourth quarter of 2022.

Aside from the phone number-based fund transfers, the linkage between both payment systems will also allow consumers to make payments at retail stores by scanning DuitNow QR or NETS QR codes. Theoretically, this means users should be able to utilise Malaysian e-wallets or banking apps for payments in Singapore once the implementation is completed.

Prior to this, BNM has worked on seamless cross-border payments with the Bank of Thailand (BOT) since the middle of 2020. In fact, Thais were already able to make payments in Malaysia by scanning DuitNow QR codes after the first phase of the linkage between DuitNow and BOT’s PromptPay was completed back in June.

On another hand, Malaysians can only perform Thai QR payments in Thailand later this year as this capability falls under the second phase of the linkage which will take place within Q4 2021. By the fourth quarter of 2022, mobile number-based real-time transfers will also be enabled between Malaysia and Thailand.
