Uber suddenly not working

Hi all.

I'm in a bit of a problem now. I am in a railway station, and I originally planned to use Uber to go back. All of a sudden I cannot book a ride anymore, as Uber app stated that my payment method is invalid, and it will neither let me pay by cash nor let me add other card details.

Currently in a pinch, so I hope some kind folks in /k/ can book a ride for me. I can pay the driver by cash. If you can help, please do leave a message below and I will PM you the pickup location and drop off location.

Thanks a lot.

Digi Broadband SIM in UMobile Huawei E5330 modem

Hi all!

In a previous thread I started I mentioned that I would like to try out either Digi Broadband 60 plan, or UMobile MB68 plan. Given that the Digi Broadband 60 plan currently offers a promotion bonus of extra 10GB quota per month, and the fact that many LYNers have mentioned in the previous thread that Digi service isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I am thinking of giving Digi Broadband 60 plan a try.

I already have a Huawei E5330 3G modem I got a while back when UMobile gave out free modems as part of their promotion. I thought I could probably use the same modem with a Digi SIM. I gave it a try - it worked! I searched a few things on Google, and the results turned up fast (I'm used to 384kbps Streamyx connection, eh). However, I cannot access any other sites, not even Yahoo or Bing.

It looked like the connection is being filtered / blocked in some kind of way. Does this happen because the modem is "locked"? I assumed that a locked modem is totally unusable, not partially-usable-yet-annoyingly-difficult like this.

What is the problem, and how can I solve it?

Note: When I tried to access the router page, I see the page below:

Opening a SAVINGS account

I just went through a rather frustrating experience at a local bank.

I am a university student, and I planned to open a savings account last month to keep my money, so I can use it when I want to pay university fees or daily expenses. I went to a branch in Perak (I currently live in Kampar), but they told me to go back to Sabah to register an account there because the address on the identity card is a Sabah address (they reminded me to bring my IC when I go to the Sabah branch). I ended up having to fly all the way back, and visited the branch in Sabah.

When I got there, the bank staff asked for a proof of student status. I showed my student ID. Then, they asked for more proof. Thankfully, I asked my university to prepare a letter to verify / declare that I am currently a student at the university before I flew back to Sabah. I showed them the letter. It turns out that they are still not satisfied, and asked for even more proof. On the letter prepared my my university there is a phone number for the Student Affairs Division, so I said they can call the university for verification. They are still not satisfied! They finally asked for a letter of offer when I first joined the university, which I do not have. I argued that the student ID and the verification letter issued by my university is more than enough to prove y student status, but they still asked me to return when I can show them a letter of offer.

I'm utterly pissed, so I drove to another branch (do you know how far apart the branches are located in Sabah?). After a long journey I arrived at another branch, and it turns out that a Student ID and a quick call to my university is enough to let me open an account and get my ATM card in less than an hour! I told the staff there about what I went through, which is only answered with "That's weird...".

I think I shouldn't have needed to fly and drive hundreds of kilometres just to open a goddamned savings account.

Thinking back, CIMB also gave me a lot of trouble when I tried to open a savings account few years ago. I worked at a bookstore, and I needed to open a savings account so the salary can be deposited. Thinking that most of my family members had a savings account at CIMB, so I went to the nearest branch and tried to open a savings account, but they rejected me claiming that it is to "protect me from scam" (clearly remembered the teller rolling her eyes when I pressed her further asking why my application is rejected). I had to go back and get my employer to write a letter to the bank before I could finally open a savings account there.

My question is: Why the fuck do commercial banks nowadays make it so difficult to open a savings account? I thought they'd be more than welcome to have more customers depositing money / applying loans / making business transactions with them. The number of hoops I had to jump through just to open a single savings account is mind-boggling.

Mobile Broadband: UMobile vs Digi

Hi all!

I am planning to subscribe to a mobile broadband package (below RM100 monthly). I use my laptop heavily, and rarely use my phone at all (therefore I'm only looking for a broadband package, not a postpaid + data package). I am currently looking at UMobile MB68 plan and the Digi Broadband 60 plan.

UMobile MB68 plan only comes with 7GB peak, 5GB off-peak, 7GB video (Youtube) streaming, unlimited Facebook and Spotify streaming. The package comes with a FREE Huawei 3G mobile router, and is not attached with any contract.

Digi Broadband 60 plan comes with 15GB all-day, plus 10GB additional monthly data (till Mar 2018), plus 10GB Youtube streaming (which can only be used after you finished basic data). The Huawei 4G mobile router comes with a 12-month contract.

Strictly speaking from the perspective of monthly data allocation, Digi offers 25GB basic data for a cheaper price at RM60. UMobile loses out in a sense, only offering 12GB basic data at RM68 per month.

However, I have heard lots of horror stories of Digi being seriously fucked up in all sorts of ways with their services. First, I heard that Digi blocks many apps from functioning properly, such as WhatsApp. This seems like a big problem. Is this still true for now? I occasionally play LoL when I have time, so if Digi blocks that I'll be so angry I'll explode like a nuke. Then, I heard that the Digi Stream Free (Youtube) quota of 10GB can only be used after you have exhausted the basic quota. In other words, watching Youtube will exhaust your basic quota first before the Stream Free (Youtube) quota - which sounds silly, in my opinion. The worst thing is that if I sign the 12-month contract for the 4G modem, I will face a HEAVY penalty if there are many problems with Digi broadband and I plan to quit. I have a Huawei E5330 3G router, but I don't know if I can just sign up for the Digi SIM-only Broadband package without the router/contract. Anyone has tried that before?

I'm thinking that Digi might be a good option, but I'm honestly terrified of all the problems that has been reported. Looking for the help of experienced LYNers to give some advice.

How to go from KL Sentral to Teluk Intan?

Hi all!

Does anyone have an idea what would be the recommended route for a traveler to travel from KL Sentral to Teluk Intan, and back to KL Sentral? This traveler is pregnant and traveling alone, so a route with less walking distance / staircases would be preferred (although walking is not completely out of question).

One option I have heard about of is to go from KL Sentral to Pudu Sentral, and buy a bus ticket there. I am concerned about having this traveler walking down a flight of stairs to go to the platform, though. Some of my friends say TBS is a good option, and you can get bus there for cheap, but I have never been there before, so I'm not sure if this is still true.

Also, would anyone please give an estimate of the travel cost for a return trip?
Thank you.

Anyone traveling from KL Sentral to Ipoh/Taiping?

Hi all!

I'm asking for a favour here. Is there anyone here who frequently travels from KL Sentral / NU Sentral to either Ipoh or Taiping, and will travel again within the next week?

I accidentally left my personal belongings at a fast food outlet at NU Sentral recently, but I have contacted one of the outlet staff who have found the item and agreed to temporarily keep the item for me. However, I am currently in Taiping and unable to travel back to KL Sentral again soon.

The item is only a file with some documents. I will need the file before December, so I am hoping that someone could get the file for me.

Thank you.

Recommendations: Portable / Wireless Broadband

Hi everyone.

I travel frequently and I want to be able to access the Internet while on the move. I will be accessing the Internet with a laptop often (e.g. to browse LYN forums). The soft limit for my budget is MYR70 monthly, and I am looking for a broadband plan which fits my budget constraints.

With only about MYR70 available monthly, what is the best deal I can get?

I am currently looking at Celcom FIRST™ Blue Internet, where I can get 2GB data monthly for MYR45 with no contract.

However, my friends have advised me to look out for other deals by other Telco providers, as they said MYR45 is not a very good price for only 2GB monthly. A Celcom Online Customer Service agent informed me thatthey have new broadband packages, but I do not see any. My friend signed a 5GB for MYR45 monthly package with Digi recently, but I can't find such offer on Digi website now. I am hoping that anyone here will be able to suggest a good broadband package deal if they are familiar with the recent wireless broadband deals and promotions.

Frequent Lag Spikes

Hi everyone!

I am a Streamyx customer currently experiencing a problem, which appears like frequent lag spikes. This occurs at random bursts throughout the day and night, and each lag spike may last for minutes, hours, or even half a day.

Whenever I experience a "lag spike", I cannot access the Internet at all. The modem lights all appear normal, but I cannot access any webpage. This includes using any search engine (e.g. searching "candles" on Google). Of course, I've tried using a direct connection (bypassing splitter), using both wireless connection and LAN cable, flashing / restarting / rebooting the modem - none of these helped. This is probably not a DNS issue, because I am currently using Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), and I've also tried to use automatically obtained ™ DNS, which does not help.

I have called the Streamyx operator, and described my problems as above. The operator instructed me to turn my modem off immediately, and put me on hold for several minutes. I must mention that at this point my antivirus software is trying to update its database, and has been stuck at 2% thanks to the unusable Internet connection.

Then, the operator told me to turn my modem back on again. As soon as the "Internet" light flashed on, the operator immediately said "Alright, you're connected now, please test your connection". (Ooh, so they can even monitor my connection and internet activity?) I went back to my computer, and I SHIT YOU NOT the antivirus update progress immediately shot to 100% (It was at 2% when I turned the modem off, remember?). Normally, an update takes 10 - 15 minutes, and this time it's in... seconds?

I tried accessing Google, Yahoo, Youtube, Bing, Lowyat Forums - they all worked now! I thanked the operator and resumed my online work. 3 minutes later, the problems resurfaced and I cannot browse the Internet again. Google is not working, Youtube is not working, email is not working, even Lowyat Forum is not working.

What exactly is the problem? Did the operator just lift the speed limit for me for 3 minutes? I am not exactly very tech-savvy, so I have no idea where the problem lies, but the following data might be useful:

https://s17.postimg.io/tkb9pa2xb/Stats_2.png
https://s17.postimg.io/5ulu0l4jz/Stats_3.png
https://s17.postimg.io/lu4hk50lr/Stats_4.png
https://s17.postimg.io/yzjzq8uhb/Stats5.png

Inheritance Law / Land Law

Dear all,

I am dealing with a sticky situation here involving an inheritance issue without a will. The situation is described below. All parties involved are non-Muslim, if that matters.

A deceased man, Zachary, has left only one property for his children. The property is a small plot of land of unknown value, but is rumoured to be worth about half a million currently. He has six children as listed below (names obviously altered):

1. Ann (untraceable for decades, legally presumed to be deceased, spouse / children also untraceable)
2. Brandon
3. Claire
4. Daniel (deceased recently with surviving wife and 4 adult children)
5. Edwin (deceased, with surviving wife and 1 adult daughter)
6. Fiona

The siblings have initially agreed to give the entire plot of land to Edwin's only child. However, Daniel has deceased unexpectedly just before a written agreement could be completed.

The major problem lies in the fact that Edwin's adult daughter (Susan) is currently going through a messy divorce. Susan is filing for divorce, but Edwin's son-in-law (Ted) is not agreeing to the divorce. Now, Zachary's surviving children (Brandon, Claire, Fiona) is worried that the plot of land will go to Ted instead, who is not even a descendant of Zachary. (Also, they all hate Ted for being deceitful, but that is another story altogether)

To make the problems worse, Daniel's surviving wife and 4 adult children is now opposed to the idea of giving the plot of land away. They believe they should get a fair share, which is equivalent of 20% of the land, or the 20% of the value of the land after selling it.

1. What happens when multiple beneficiaries cannot agree on how to manage an inherited piece of property? As of right now, Daniel's children wants to sell the land, Edwin's wife and daughter (Susan) wants to retain the land for themselves, the siblings (Brandon, Claire, Fiona) basically doesn't care much, and has no intention on fighting for the property, but hates the idea of having Ted getting anything.

2. How can they determine the actual value of the plot of land? Also, how does anyone sell a plot of land? What are the important steps / procedures involved?

Booking AirAsia Flight to Indonesia

Dear all,

I am planning to book a flight to Indonesia in a couple of weeks. I just realized that my passport is nearing expiry.
Can I still make an online booking for flight tickets through AirAsia website?

From my past experiences, passport number is NOT required for online booking, and a passport is only needed at the immigration counter at the airport. However, my colleague who will be travelling with me insists that we cannot book a ticket without having a valid passport number. He said that we need to renew our passports first, but my schedule is incredibly tight these two weeks.

I am hoping that LYN fellows will be able to provide some clarification. Thank you.

DCA 1000% Price Hike

It seems that the DCA wants to impose some kind of hefty fees.

Although Liow has mentioned that "Airfares should not go up with new DCA fees", can we really be sure that airline companies would abide by his words and not jump at this golden opportunity to jack their prices many times fold?

There has been speculations that ticket prices will shoot up after tonight. What do you all think?

A stranger helped me today

Just sharing my (foolish) experience from today. Posting this in /k/ due to a lack of a better place to post.

I am supposed to travel to KL Sentral this morning, and then travel to Kampar, Perak via ETS.
When it was the time for me to depart, I had intended to hop onto a bus to KL Sentral, but instead foolishly ended up in a wrong bus departing to a completely different location. (The bus conductor did not even realize I had a ticket for the OTHER bus!) I did not realize my mistake till I noticed the bus was going to places I am very unfamiliar with.

I screwed up really bad, and I thought I’d miss my train for sure – When the bus arrived at the destination, I had only about half an hour till my train departs. I thought I was in a really sticky predicament, until a kind soul offered his assistance. A law student from Brickfields Asia College, which I believe is in his 4th (final) year, offered to help. He sent me to KL Sentral from that unfamiliar place in his private car right away – free of charge.

I felt I couldn’t thank him enough for saving me from myself (my blunder). Would have given him some souvenir if I had some – normally I carry something with me, but this time I only have clothes and shoes. I thought of posting him a Thank You card, but just realized I don’t know his full name (hence no idea who should I address the mail to). The only helpful thing might be his vehicle registration number I jotted down (W*Y 8*57 [partially censored]). My personal attempt at digging his info failed – my skills have dulled. I remember that /k/ detectives can sometimes be incredibly powerful, not sure if any of you can help. Vehicle registration plate partially censored, as I’m not even sure if this is appropriate, and I might come off as creepy even.

Moral of the Story #1: Have some faith in humanity - it's still alive.
Moral of the Story #2: Be alert when you are going places.

Brief version for lazy eyes: Accidentally went to an unfamiliar place, kind stranger sent me to where I am supposed to go.
Curry stains on fabric luggage

Brief: Recommended way to remove stubborn (curry) stains from fabric luggage?

Full: I had a meal this morning at Quizinn Foodcourt. A person who appears to be the cleaner of the foodcourt spilled the contents of a plate onto my luggage. The worker did not apologize, but nevertheless the bright yellow fabric on my luggage was stained. The stain appears orange to brown, and appears to be curry (it could also be thick soy sauce though, I’d never know). Wiping with damp kitchen towel was not very effective. I am now seeking for advice from /k/ on recommended ways to remove stubborn, greasy stains like this from a fabric luggage. (Throwing everything into a giant washing machine is not an option)

Dear /k/, please help.

Hundreds stranded at KLIA2 due to ‘system failure’

I am now stranded in KLIA2 with nowhere to go. Many flights are delayed, and we were only told the delay was caused by "planes being late behind their schedule".

Online news portal reveal there's some kind of fuck-up, but it appears that the blame game is about to start.

QUOTE

SEPANG, Dec 19 — Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) between 10am and noon today due to a system failure attributed to AirAsia Bhd, the New Straits Times reported.

An AirAsia spokesperson said it was due to a system failure linked to the Immigration Department, but Immigration Department director-general Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim said their system was operating normally.

“Until now there has been no system failure reported on our part. It is the airline’s system.”

“This afternoon there were many passengers at the departure hall but our counters were empty,” he said when contacted by NST.

Stranded passengers will be placed on the next flight based on availability, or may have their ticket replaced for a flight on the following day.

AirAsia Bhd is encouraging all passengers travelling during the year-end school holiday period to arrive at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure to avoid the anticipated congestion at most major airports, Bernama wrote.

AirAsia said in a statement that it expects at least 40,000 passengers daily throughout this holiday period at KLIA2.

“For guests with baggage to check in, Baggage Drop counters close 60 minutes before flight departure for all AirAsia and AirAsia X flights.

“As congestion is expected at the baggage drop counters, immigration checkpoints, security scanning, and baggage clearance during this holiday season, it is advisable to complete the baggage drop process and proceed to the boarding gate as early as possible,” the statement said.

Source: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia...-system-failure

Dear all, I might be in some kind of shit here.

I just booked a flight with Malindo, and I paid with CIMB direct debit.
Phone IMEI code

Hello to /k/ IT experts.

Is it dangerous for strangers to know your IMEI code?

I heard the IMEI code can be used to track your location if you lost your phone. Is that true? If that is the case, can I still be tracked with the phone switched off, or the battery removed?

ETS: Fully Booked or Error? (KL > IPOH)

Hi /k/ residents.

I am trying to book ETS tickets for KL Sentral > Ipoh on 27 September and 11 October in the afternoon. To my surprise, the e-ticket system shows are no tickets available. I did not expect the tickets to sell out this fast, especially since there's still almost one month to go before 11 October. Just to be sure, I have also checked all the afternoon tickets for KL Sentral > Ipoh for all the weekends in between these dates - and they are all not available.

Do these tickets normally sell out this fast, and is it now impossible to book online? I suspect there might be some kind of system error, or someone buying all the tickets to resell at higher price elsewhere. According to the post I encountered, it seems that there are options to make a booking by phone - is the service still available?

If worst comes to worst, I may have to crawl my way to Pudu Sentral and take a bus. Does anyone know how can I book bus tickets to Ipoh online?

Your help is much appreciated, thank you.

First time purchasing from mudah.my (Dumbbell)

Dear /k/-ers,

I have never purchased anything from mudah.my before. Recently I am thinking of purchasing a cheap adjustable dumbbell set, and I came across the following offer:

http://www.mudah.my/Kettler+10kg+Cast+Iron...et-38545991.htm

Commonly, I see people in LYN preferring COD for lower risk of getting conned. However, this seller has clearly indicated that no COD, and no pick-ups are possible. It says it uses"delivery", but "not asking for location/address". Is this also a common way of trade in mudah.my? Does this seller seem suspicious to you (should I avoid this seller)?

(I am sorry if this should belong to Trade Zone, but since this is not strictly a WTS or WTB advertisement I thought I should ask here.)
