Health Minister: Fund set up to aid those experiencing serious side effects from Covid-19 vaccines

PETALING JAYA: A fund has been set up by the government to disburse financial aid in the unlikely event a person experiences serious side effects from Covid-19 vaccines, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (pic).

The Health Minister said the scheme would be open to both Malaysians and non-Malaysians.

"RM50,000 will be paid out to those who encounter serious side effects and have to undergo long-term hospitalisation. RM500,000 will be paid out in the event of permanent disability or death," he said

Floating RON95 will hike transport costs

PETALING JAYA: The logistics and automotive sectors are among those that will feel the impact of the targeted fuel subsidy scheme, when it kicks off in January next year.

Higher costs for the logistics sector lead to higher transport costs for businesses, regardless of the sectors they operate in, and ultimately higher prices for products and services.

With RON95 fuel to be floated according to market prices, consumers may increasingly choose to purchase more energy-efficient or green vehicles, or opt for public transport over driving.

Currently, the price of RON95 is fixed at RM2.08 while the price of the higher grade RON97 is controlled by a floating mechanism.

About 2.9 million people are expected to be eligible for the subsidy under the scheme.

Car and motorcycle owners entitled to the scheme will respectively receive RM120 and RM48 every four months.

The subsidy will only be given to BSH recipients who own cars with 1,600cc engine and below, as well as cars that are 1,600cc and above which are at least 10 years old.

Petrol subsidy details out: RON95 price to be floated, subsidies for BSH recipients

PUTRAJAYA: The government’s new petrol subsidy scheme will float the price of RON95 petrol and see eligible recipients receiving between RM48 (motorcycle owners) and RM120 (car owners) every four months.

The targeted subsidy scheme, which is set to take effect in early 2020, will only be given to car and motorcycle owners based in Peninsular Malaysia who are also recipients of the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH).

For cars, only those with 1,600cc engines and below or vehicles over 10 years old with engines larger than 1,600cc are eligible.

For motorcycle owners, the subsidy is only given to those with engines of 150cc and below, or seven-year-old bikes or more above 150cc.

For Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, there will be no subsidy scheme but the price of RON95 in the two states and the Federal Territory will be capped at RM2.08, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told a special media conference here Monday (Oct 7).

He said a total of 2.8 million people will benefit from the subsidy scheme, which will cost the government about RM65.4mil a month.
