Need Advice on which Camera is suitable.

Hi all,

I have not posted in this particular forum before but I'd like to seek some advice regarding the purchase of a new Canon IXUS camera. I've been a long time user of the Canon IXUS 50 and have felt that it is time to upgrade.

What I am generally looking for is picture clarity, good low light picture taking and general user friendliness.

I've scoured the internet and review websites and have narrowed down my choice to the following 3 models.

1) Canon Digital IXUS 200IS Approx ~RM1388
2) Canon Digital IXUS 210IS Approx ~RM1398
3) Canon Digital IXUS 130IS Approx ~RM1099

I've looked over the specs and no.2 and no.3 have higher pixel count compared to no.1 i.e. 14.1MP vs 12.1MP. However I found that the speed (shutter) of the 130IS vs 200IS/210IS is significant lower. If I remember correctly its something like 1/1500 s vs 1/3200 s. Does this affect photo taking alot? I'm just a normal user but would like to take some action shots on occasion. Does this speed attribute to motion blur in the pictures taken? Well, bottom line compact, good quality pictures, good at low light photo taking is what I'm looking for.

Which would be the best bet for my requirements?

Thanks all in advance!

Dell Studio 15 or HP dv6t?

Hi guys,

I've been researching about laptops for the last week or so. Need some help in deciding which laptop to get. At first I wanted to get the Dell Studio XPS 16 but it proved to have too many problems associated with it along with its hefty pricing. So it all came down to 2 laptops.

1) Dell Studio 15 @ RM4864

Intel® Core™ i7-720QM processor (1.6GHz, 6MB Cache)
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit (English)
2 Yrs Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis
15.6 " Full HD(1080p)WLED (1920 x 1080)Display with TrueLife™
4GB (2GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive
Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster® X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution
6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

2) HP dv6t Quad Edition series @ RM3822 (found on Ebay.com.my)

intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display
4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
Built-in Fingerprint Reader + HP Mobile Remote Control
Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
One year parts and labor coverage, including return of equipment to HP and authorized service provider options

As you can see the difference is very big. The HP has slightly better specs in terms of graphics card but lower native resolution compared to the dell LED one. However, it is nearly RM1000 cheaper. So a few questions I'd like to ask is...

1) Is it safe to buy from Ebay.com.my?
2) Which of the two above would you recommend? (based on manufacturer quality/service and not specs)
3) Any other recommendation from other manufactuers or models?

I am currently leaning towards the HP due to its price/better specs and thus far have not heard any quality issues but some of the members in LYN might beg to differ.

Pls help...my current lappy is on its last legs. Already dying...

thanks in advance!

Recruitment updated: 13/8/09

Driven is a late night PvE raiding guild on the Alliance faction. We aim to strike a balance between the two extremes of hardcore raiding and casual play. At the same time we are Driven to experience new content with our friends, playing at our own pace, wearing a huge smile because of the shouting on Ventrilo when we succeed at an encounter.

Our members come from: Manila, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea and a few late sleepers from East Coast Australia and New Zealand. We plan our raids for an 8.30 pm our local time (GMT+8) kickoff. That’s 11.30pm server (DST). Raids are usually between 3.5 - 4 hrs and normally would not extend over 12.00am (GMT+8) or 3.00am server (DST). Current raiding days are Wed, Thurs, Sun, Mon.

We have cleared all 10man and 25man content and are now working on General Vezax and soon Yogg Saron (Uld25: 11/13 Uld10:11/13). *NEW* Driven has cleared ToC10 Northrend Beast and are now working on ToC25.
What DKP addon do you use?

Hi all,

Just want to do a survey on the addons that people use to record/award/deduct dkp during raids. Objective is to find a dkp addon suitable for my guild.

Currently my guild is using Quick DKP (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quick-dkp-v2.aspx) which is an ingame DKP addon - meaning that the dkp totals for everyone in the guild can be viewed by clicking on their name in the guild tab. The officer's notes tab is used to store their net dkp, total lifetime dkp and total hours raided.

The addon can perform the functions below:

1) Check old historical data of each raider - what they won, how much dkp spent, how much dkp awarded, which boss downed
2) Ironman bonus - hourly dkp awarded based on your set rate - 10dkp/hr or 20dkp etc
3) Automatically annouces dkp awarded/deducted to raid or by whisper/gchat

However, it does not do autobids or calculation of bids for you. Nor does it have great web support i.e. I have not been able to output it onto a web page effectively.

Any recommendations guys?

Thanks

Ventrilo Servers

Hi all,

My guild is using www.darkstarllc.com as the host for our ventrilo. We have been using for nearly 2 years. Lately the performance of the server is getting worse. Last night was the last straw, the vent was down for more than 2hours.

We usually purchase a 35man server so that a 25man raid can be conducted even with people socialising in the vent forums. Do anyone know of any host that is value-for-money and has a stable performance?

Hello guys,

I'm thinking of getting new gfx card and each of the companies Gainward, Palit and Gecube offer the same model/type that is the HD4850 512MB DDR3. Of course the difference that I can see myself is pricing with Palit slightly cheaper compared to the other two.

What I would like to know is that which is the best in terms of:

1) Performance - Any difference?
2) Cooling - I heard HD4850 very hot under usage. Which one has better cooling?
3) Anything else I need to consider when buying GC? I'm using Dell Dimension 9150.

Currently I'm looking at FSP Everest 80Plus 600w True Power Modular PSU as a possible candidate as my new PSU but I don't know whether it can fit into my casing or not. How do I verify this? I can't bring the CPU to the shop cos I'm ordering via mail and cannot verify physically without buying it first.

Any idea how to match the sizing or recommend a brand that fits?

Thanks all in advance!

System cannot start if I install 2gb --> 3gb RAM

Hi all,

I am running Windows XP SP3 on a Pentium D system using a motherboard with Intel® 945G Chipset. Currently in my system I have 512mb x2 DDR2 (667mhz) and 1gb x 1 DDR2 (667mhz) = 2gb total. I have 1 extra stick of 1gb DDR2 (667mhz) which I want to install in to the motherboard to get a total of 3gb. Note that both the 1gb RAMs are identical (bought same time. Kingston brand).

Each time I try to install the 2nd piece, the system refuse to start upon powering up. I do not think there is a problem with the extra RAM since I interchanged them and the system works fine. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Please help. Thank you very much!

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my current graphics card (GF 8600GT 256mb) to a Radeon 4850/4870. However, ppl on the Garage sale forums said that my PSU (375W) might be too low. So now I have to upgrade this also.

One of my other friends mentioned to me that I have to check whether my motherboard can support 600W PSU or not...I'm not good with hardware but am still learning. My board as mentioned on packaging is Intel® 945G Chipset. Can this board support a 600W PSU?

I have checked intel website but cannot find any mention of compatibility issues of motherboard with PSU only a table (I copy and paste for your reference):

Power Supply Considerations for Processors
Failure to use the appropriate power supply (below) and/or not connecting the 12 V (2x2) power
connector to the desktop board may result in damage to the board, or the system may not function properly.

Platform Compatibility Guide Power Supply Requirements
05B 12V2 rating of 16 A continuous and 19 A peak current for 10mS
05A 12V2 rating of 13 A continuous and 16.5 A peak current for 10mS
04B or 04A ATX12V (version 2.0 or greater) compliant power supply

I'm sorry I dont know what the above means

-------------------------------------------------------------
Another thing, my CPU is Pentium D 3.4Ghz. Is this considered underpowered if consider 4850 as graphics card? If I want to change just change the CPU? My motherboard can support?

Thank you all for your help!

By "hybrid", we aim to strike a balance between the two extremes of hardcore raiding guild and casual guild. At the same time we are Driven to experience new content with our friends, playing at our own pace, wearing a huge smile because of the shouting on Ventrilo when we succeed at an encounter.

We are recruiting the following classes, although we are still entertaining applications for other classes:

Paladin (Holy/Prot) OPEN
Druid (Resto) OPEN
Priest (Holy) OPEN
Shaman (Resto) OPEN
Warlock OPEN.
Mage OPEN
Warrior (Prot) OPEN

Our members come from: Manila, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and a few late sleepers from East Coast Australia and New Zealand.
[A] Driven LFM Raiders SSC/TK

**We know that transfers to Barthilas are currently close but they could open anytime. Hence, this recruitment post. However, LFM Barthilas players! **

Driven is a late night hybrid PvE raiding guild on the Oceanic server Barthilas. By "hybrid", we aim to strike a balance between the two extremes of hardcore raiding guild and casual guild. At the same time we are Driven to experience new content with our friends, playing at our own pace, wearing a huge smile because of the shouting on Ventrilo when we succeed at an encounter. Due to RL commitments by some of our raiders, we are now mass recruiting to fill up the holes (as with any long holiday seasons there are bound to be AFK and RL commitments taking over).

We are recruiting the following classes, although we are still entertaining applications for other classes:

2 x resto shaman
1 x resto druid
2 x warlock
2 x mage
1 x hunter
2 x warriors
1 x pally

Our members come from: Manila, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and a few late sleepers from East Coast Australia and New Zealand. We have Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon and Void Reaver on farm. At present we are working on Lurker and Hydross is next on the list.

We use free /rolling in our Karazhan groups, and QDKP for 25-man raids. We don't stress people to build up huge point balances because that's just not the way our system works.

Our 2x Karazhan teams are: Team Rock and Team Roll.

Applications can be submitted online at our guild website (www.guild-driven.com) or we can be contacted in-game via Essuri, Soraheart, Silkenn or Grimwrath.
Half Life 2: Game of The Year Edition

Hi there, I just bought this new game from a website. The version they sent me is the thai version. With it came instructions to install and change the language settings. The problem is...I can't read thai and the installation screens are all in thai language. Can anyone help me find a solution for this? I can't return the game cos they won't take it back. I felt cheated even though the game is new and not tampered with

I also mailed to Valve to get some solution but they can only say that thai version is for thailand only. Ask me to return it instead...

helpppp

Getting New Phone - Help please

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to this forums. Thinking of getting a new phone to replace my aging Nokia 6630.

I've been looking at both Sony and Nokia. So far only the 2 phones listed (W910 and K770i) appeals to me. I would like to know the general opinion of fellow forumers on these phones especially those who have tried and tested the phones. Many thanks in advance to those who feedback

I did a comparison of both phones (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones?cc=my&lc=en#view=phones&cdl=1&s=0&detail=0&cmp=1&acc_cid=0&cid=0&cmp_id0=262079&cmp_id1=265454&acc_pid=0&pid=0)

W910 Pros

1) Bigger MAX memory for M2 (8gb vs 2gb)
2) Supports more networks (GSM850, HSPDA2100, EDGE) ---> Relevant? I mean good to have?
3) Walkman functions (shake, flip etc etc) --> Gimmick?
4) Bigger screen 2.4" vs 1.9"
5) Nearly 10g lighter

W910 Cons

1) No autofocus
2) No flash
3) Camera exposed --> Scratch easily?
4) 2MP Camera vs 3.2MP Camera
4) Slider --> SE slider good? Or easy to break?

I'm using the W910 as base reference and this is my observation so far. There might be more issues with one or both phones. Some feedback from users would be greatly appreciated

My basic requirements for phone:
1) Decent camera --> No need to be too beautiful, flash/autofocus is a bonus
2) Decent sound --> Can listen to my mp3 happy already
3) 3G support --> I use this quite often on my phone and it is a must-have.
4) Easy to press keypad --> I think both phones no issue for this.
5) Budget: ~RM1500 (+/- RM100)  --> Cheaper if possible.
