Need Advise on register Streamyx

Hi...I am a Dial up user of TM Net...I would like to apply for Streamyx service, but I would like to seek some advise from the expert before I can proceed..
I have a friend who stay the same block with me...He is a StreamyX user...One day, I go to Telekom and ask to register for Streamyx service, been told my house is 6.09KM from the receiver..when I ask the TM staff to check my friend phone number...been informed he is 5.99KM..who is able to connect..
The TM staff advise me not to apply first...I questioned her whether can I apply first..if after test out, the Streamyx cannot be connect, then I cancel the application...She told me cannot, once I apply for it..I need to pay at least 1 year fees...which is wasted if my house do not have the connectivity...So, I have a few queries here...

(1) Is there anyway I can test out myself if my house has the Streamyx connectivity?
(2) Can a Streamyx be connected even the distance is 6.09KM?
(3) Any other suggestion with regards to my situation?

Really desperate for reply..as the dial up connection is really slow..somemore need to pay more than Streamyx service...

Thanks...
