Malaysians need to accept Najib

isildur88 — Mon, 26 Oct 2015 00:43:06 +0800

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin has come to the defence of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, saying that Malaysians need to accept the current leaders of the government.

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister told reporters at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday that Dr Ahmad Zahid was in an understandably difficult position to address concerns raised by Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He reiterated that Malaysians needed to accept that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was Prime Minister and that Dr Ahmad Zahid was his deputy.

"This is the reality that the people have to understand. The people choose the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has the prerogative to appoint his deputy.

"No outsider can decide who becomes the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. That has always been the case since Merdeka until now," said Hamzah.

Hamzah also urged Muhyiddin not to bring up the past, saying that former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad appointed Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, not Muhyiddin, as his successor.

"And then Pak Lah appointed someone else as his successor. How can Muhyiddin claim that he was given priority?" he said.

When asked to comment on Muhyiddin's statements earlier, Dr Ahmad Zahid said that there was no need to be nostalgic over something that did not materialise into reality.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who took over as Deputy Prime Minister during the cabinet reshuffle in July, said although he respected Muhyiddin, the latter needed to support the current leadership as they were elected in the last election.

"Any individual who thinks otherwise can join other organisations and prove that they are better than the current leaders.

"It's better to wait for the next election to see who the people elect," he added.

we did not choose or elect Najib as PM.

Article 43 – Appointment of the Prime Minister and the cabinet
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is required to appoint a Cabinet to advise him in the exercise of his executive functions. He appoints the Cabinet in the following manner:

acting in his discretion (see Art. 40(2)(a)), he first appoints as Prime Minister a member of the Dewan Rakyat who in his judgment is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the Dewan. There is no Constitutional requirement that the Prime Minister must be of any particular race or religion;[17] and
on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appoints other Ministers from among the members of either House of Parliament.
